One day while searching for new reads, I came across a self promotion thread by this author via GoodReads. After reading the book description, I became intrigued and decided to get it. I love it when I choose well.

After reading this story, I can honestly say that I'll be reading future works by this author. She has captured my attention and curiosity into this storyline, which I hope will be turned into a series. It has great potential for being one.

Though the story started off as a little slow during the first few pages, I became quickly engrossed with it. I actually read it within a few hours after starting it. I found myself rooting for several of the characters within the story, and loving it even better when the bad guys got their just deserved endings. Yes, I know this is just a story, but I love it when my curiosity is piqued and I can have some bad guy(s) destroyed.

I thought the storyline/concept was very engaging and different. The world building of the town and it's history was profound. I was carried away easily through this author's creative writing. I found myself totally engrossed within the pages reading of the past and how the town came to be. She really did a great job of keeping my curiosity growing. I've got many questions still unanswered, but I really liked the ending .

The main characters were likeable, but I had moments of wanting to yell at and shake Daisy. She was very annoying at times, with her feelings towards Christian and Eric. I had to put down my kindle, cuz' I feared that I would literally throw it down. I overcame this feeling and continued reading. Christian was steadfast throughout the story, though I could feel his pain over his dilemmas regarding his father, friends and the town. Eric, slightly "Nerdie", became a favorite of mine. The other characters played their parts well within this story.

The pace and flow of this story was steady throughout the story. I think what made this story for me was the telling of the past of which the town came to be and the price that the town's population had to pay. I
am really hoping that there will be more to this story. I love a story that gets me emotionally involved. I found myself yelling, wanting to hit something, and cheering loudly when the bad guy(s) got what they deserved.

I felt that the book title/description was right on target, but the cover didn't really attract my attention much. I think with a different cover this would entice more readers, just IMO.

This story contains: romance, betrayal, intrigue, suspense, with a dash of murder. It will be liked by all readers that like a story regarding demons, devil and cults. I'm not one for giving away a story, so read the book description and grab a copy of this book for yourself and read it....then you can be the judge...

Happy Reading!!!

Nancy Glynn has created an astounding world! A world of good and evil, romance amid danger, friendship in peril alongside fear of betrayal and sinfully delicious desires. All this and more pops straight off the pages of Black 21, a paranormal romance that is SOOOO much more than what its simple genre label would imply.

Daisy Lock, the protagonist, becomes swiftly immersed in a strange new world while staying with her aunt and uncle in Golden Hills, Illinois. While she quickly discovers that all is not what it seems, the journey she undertakes to understand things ushers her into an alternate universe that just might contain the answers to questions she's tried to ignore since her childhood. The sexy and mysterious Christian, his stalwart friend Eric who falls for Daisy as well, the nefarious but sultry Charlotte, Daisy's cousin Dane, who loves her too, yet what should she make of the disdain mixed with hatred she sees in his eyes? And then there is Jack Red, about whom nothing more should be said so as not so spoil things..

Black 21 is a page-turner, with the reader barely able to stop moving forward. I intended to read this over the course of a week, and found myself riveted, the story pouring forth so briskly I couldn't stop thinking about what might happen next while I was NOT reading, the hallmark of a fabulous book. Even now, writing this review, my thoughts are still among the characters, which makes me happy there are more related stories by the same author. Enjoy! I certainly did, and especially the naughty parts!

When I was growing up, I used to enjoy watching Saturday afternoon horror movies. Back then, there were plenty of great, obscure movies to choose from and all of them are largely forgotten today, except in the hearts of horror aficionados and cult movie lovers. Reading "Black 21" by Nancy Glynn took me back to those days and gave me the feeling I used to get when I anticipated the next wonderful low-budget, atmospheric and sometimes foreign, horror movie to grace my small newly-color TV set.

Once I started reading "Black 21," I felt like I was in a surreal landscape. One of real, and perceived, terror and menace. One from which I couldn't escape. As much as I kept wanting to tell Daisy to wake up, get away, run.... I also wanted her to stay. To find out what was going on in this weird little town, where evil forces have been at work for centuries.

Ms. Glynn has a very unique and mesmerizing way of telling a story and quite without realizing it, you're so caught up in the strange, dark and twisted events, that you find you can't escape and are as helpless to control the next turn of the page as Daisy is helpless to control the increasingly weird and dangerous situations she's in. I found myself very intrigued by this town and these people and can't wait to read more of the Golden Hill Legacy series.

Dire things happen to the male children in the town of Golden Hills, Illinois on their twenty-first birthday. Well, even worse things happen to the females if they are…chosen. I feel as though I need to cue ominous music because Nancy Glynn does a great job of weaving suspense into her story.

From page one, the adrenalin starts pumping for Daisy and doesn’t seem to stop. Add in that this is also a romance and the story becomes a bit twisted as evil forces attempt to manipulate things to their advantage. And yet, through it all, love is a shining light in a sea of darkness.

Lovers of supernatural/paranormal love stories will enjoy this thriller.

NOT REALLY FOR ADULTS

This is a very predictable story. Everything is surface written with little to no depth. No background is given on nearly anything. Don't waste your money or time.

Nancy Glynn has a fantastically creative mind and is clearly not afraid to touch on some really dark and disturbing topics. In fact, that is the primary reason I enjoyed this book so much. Though it's a bit too much on the romance side for my taste, those dark moments and the things Daisy and Christian have to overcome really draw you in. The author is not afraid to have violence, manipulation, sex, and drama in her tales and that is great, because some authors focus too much on the need for everything to be picture perfect. It's the imperfect moments that make this tale interesting and help to add definition and depth to the characters and the story as a whole.

I had posted this snippet for my What Are You Reading Wednesdays meme:

Daisy watched in horror as they hanged Dane from an old Oak tree over a bonfire, his feet stable on a wooden stool, in the center of devil worshipers enjoying the view. Something told her that tree lynched many people in its time.

His begging cries speared her soul. She ran to the front of everyone cheering. Christian grabbed her to hold her back. "You lied to me!" she screamed at Jack. "You said no one would die!"

This was a powerful snippet and since I wasn't going to start the book until that afternoon, I found myself itching to find out what the heck was going on. I thought I would be disturbed by the idea of someone being lynched in front of a crowd, but the truth is as you delve into this book, you'll discover things aren't what they seem and maybe things aren't as good and bad as they appear.

The world that is created is one that I despised. Not because of anything wrong the author did, but because of everything right she did. The world Daisy lives in, is a world I would not want to live in. I would despise every second of it and since I'm not much for conformity, I would probably lose my life because of it.

I only had two complaints about the book: Daisy and Christian, and some of the religious aspects.

I've been fairly clear about not being a huge fan of romance books and I'll admit, the two main characters falling in love so quickly was a bit much for my taste. Especially when Daisy believed she was only going to be Christian date for his birthday ball. For someone like me, who's a bit jaded with romance, I just wish Daisy hadn't fallen so easily. I did not feel any trust towards Christian and I wish she would have questioned his intentions more than she did. I also felt it was childish of her to constantly proclaim he didn't love her, etc., when it was pretty evident he was trying to protect her from Jack. But then again, young women can be overly dramatic when it comes to guys, so this seems to hit the mark pretty accurately in the realism department.

I am not against religion in any form or fashion. My qualms with this aspect fall more in the need to make it such a force of light as opposed to Jack's force of darkness. If there had been even a sliver of lightness to Jack, the story would have been that much better. It would have made him come off as a more defined character and really would have squashed my qualms about this subject.

All in all, I enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more from Nancy. So I hope some of you will check it out for yourself and see what you're missing out on!

Black 21 by Nancy Glynn

My Rating: 4 of 5 Stars

Spoilers!

What's it all about?
When Daisy is sent away from home to recover from event that have happen she is shoved into more unruly events. When your transported back tot he town you partially grew up in and you seem to be uncovering more of their secrets what do you do? As Daisy and Christian become closer more of the destiny that they share come to life, and it isn’t a good one. Christian’s 21st birthday is months around the corner, and the highlight of the show is Daisy. Their lives will be changed by Jack Red, and who will Daisy truly end up with, Christian her true love, or Jack her true master?

The Best Parts:
So when this novel started I was all for it. It was intriguing and lovable. I loved learning about what was happening with Daisy while she learned. It kept up the suspense and felt like the story was going in a great reaction. That was until I looked down at my kindle and saw I was only 15% in and already so much had happened. That was when I got skeptical about where the story was going. After the hayride with Daisy and Christian things just seemed to get more complicated and then it felt like the story went through fast forward. I absolutely loved the story, but I think too much was crammed into one book. This would have made a great series, or even a two part book series. Something, because all of the information and the running around and the deaths all just happened way too fast for me. I seriously mean it though when I say that I loved this book. I was screaming at it in my break room at work throwing my hands everywhere, and wanting to throw my kindle at the wall.

The Worst Parts:
The only thing that I felt off about this story was the fast forward nature of the writing. The affected the ending of the story, not in a good way though. By then end I just don’t really know what happened. I mean I do, but then the kids just ran away, and off into the sunset and that’s it. Some Epilogue would have been great or some aftermath would have helped, but nope. They just left with a child as everyone else was dying. Kind of odd, but still I seemed to accept it and just let it go. The characters were well written, but at times seemed to be a little unfocused and changeable. I understood that some of the characters it was in their nature to change, but then it just got confusing with the romances between the characters and no one being loyal to one another. Then the really confusing part was all the christianity in the novel, and then all the sin and devil, and the sex. I didn’t really understand where God really stood in this story, but it didn’t feel like a strong presence maybe like the author had expected. I think this would have been another thing to expand on if the book was broken up into multiple books. The faith aspect that is supposed to be saving these kids lives.

Final thoughts:
I think that this book could have been the best paranormal romance I have ever read, but then it fell slightly short of everything I built up for it. Now don’t get me wrong, it was a fantastic book, but I just wanted more. I commend the author for creating such a great story with great characters, and I feel the even for an indie author that this would be great on the shelves of a book store for many young adults to read.

Let's welcome Nancy to the elite group of great authors of the paranormal. This book is different from any book I have read to date. I usually watch this kind of topic, Satanism in movies, and I admit it is much creepier reading about it. Nancy does an excellent job weaving an intricate web around you. She slowly lets you into the crazy world Jack Red and the Stone family. There are a lot of twists and turns that come unexpected but were well executed.

I struggled with Daisy. She seems to go to very extreme changes in this book and I really have a hard time with all she endures in this book. some of it made my skin crawl and I couldn't imagine how someone could let some of these things happen to them in the name of love. Her situation seems extremely hopeless for a long time and I suffered with her. In some aspects she really seemed like she had it together until she made some odd choices, but then again with Satanism everything is possible. She has a great friend in Eric and receives support from unexpected sources. Christian is a great addition to the story and overall very likable. He is also torn between what he was raised to be and what he truly wants to be.

This book was extremely well written and had a great pace to it. Just thinking back about it makes me a tad uncomfortable which tells how great of a writer Nancy really is.
For those who like horror-paranormal-satanism, this book is a definite must read!

I have received this book from the author for an honest review.

Mysterious, Strange and Wild

I don’t know what prompted me to try reading paranormal romance. Nancy Glynn’s Black 21 was a story unlike anything I’ve ever read.

Daisy Lock visits her Uncle Joe and Aunty Betty at Golden Hills. Although she is supposed to be recuperating from a traumatic incident in her past, Daisy is soon pulled into the strange and unholy happenings in the town. Initially coerced into attending the Christian Stone’s date at his 21st b’day ball, Daisy is soon plunged into the murky happenings in the town. This is a town like no other, where Jack Red, who is like the Devil incarnate rules over the townspeople with the lure of power fueled by greed.

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

Daisy and Christian’s relationship seemed very rushed and it would have helped if there was more characterization of their feelings. But I still believed in their love, but what made me doubt it was Daisy’s encounter with Eric.

“Love can’t live without light”
Change in Christian’s struggle to overcome his legacy and fight for what he truly wants was endearing. Daisy’s faith in God and Church and her spirit was commendable. Overall the content of this novel made me very uncomfortable. Nevertheless, Black 21 was very well written and was precise in delivery, with an ending that is left to the reader’s imagination.

I am not one to read paranormal books, but this one caught my attention. The story is about Daisy who decides to visit her aunt and uncle in a small little town tucked away from the world. She is asked to do something quite strange and thus takes her on a journey of terror, mystery, supernatural beings and down right scary things.

She meets Christian and is drawn to him with emotions that she has never experienced before. What connection do these two people have? What evil is about to happen on someone's twenty-first birthday? Was a deal made a long time ago so sinister that it could be dangerous for Daisy? There is an evil spirit just waiting for the right moment to make its move. Who will this plan involve? It seems there is someone from Daisy's past about to wreck havoc in the town and no one will see it coming.

The author does an amazing job of writing a dark , twisted tale that leaves you wanting to read more. The characters are quite interesting and she writes the most prestine evil chatacter I have read in quite a while. His mere presence is enough to send shivers down your spine and a scream stuck in your throat. This book is not for young readers as it is filled with mature subject matter. I won't give the story away, but I will say for all those who love paranormal books, you will not be disappointed in this heartstopping story.

As a supporter of indie authors, I was delighted when searching in social media for a new read and found Black 21, a debut novel by Nancy Glynn. Paranormal Romance is not one my go-to genres, but this sounded good and I had an unusual urge to read. Better yet, it was available through my Kindle Unlimited membership.

I jumped for joy when beginning the read. It grabbed this Christian reader from the beginning to the end. Definitely not for the timid, the romance scenes tested my limit; while tastefully written, this is an 18+ read. The power between the light and dark, good vs. evil, and the reality of human frailty in always doing what's right. Don't get me wrong, the DARKNESS was so craftily written there were times I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room, yet the flow and plot twists kept me enthralled and the inspirational LIGHT always reappeared granting strength for the protagonists to continue.

As a character driven reader, I haven't read anything in a long time with as well-crafted and thorough cast. I think many of the guys out there that avoid 'Romance' would enjoy identifying with Christian and Eric as I did Daisy.

I try never to give a spoiler ending, but for me... it felt incomplete, possibly missing an epilogue or is the beginning of a series. Yet, stating this, I recommend this thrilling, emotional rollercoaster ride packed full of entertainment.

The writing moves fast in this book! There is constant action and no over detailed lulls. That brings me joy. I like my fair share of detail but I also like a story that is constant pow pow and leaves you reeling. This book definitely achieved that.

I liked Daisy from the beginning. I hated what happened to her but realized that in the end love can be selfish. Love can make you overlook consequences. Love can make you justify doing things that you otherwise wouldn’t. The theme there is consistent with this.

This author has real talent with drawing you into caring for the characters. I felt a connection with Eric and Christian as well as Daisy. I even got invested in minor characters. That’s a big plus.

My favorite part of this book is that it ends happily. I like a happy ending. That will always earn points with me. Especially when little kids are on the line in a story. I have a tender heart when it comes to that.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book. I found it hard to put down and really…isn’t that what we are all looking for? Another world to get lost in?

The author provided this book in return for an honest review. I regret that my opinion of the book is not very favorable. Although I can imagine this story appealing to elementary school girls, the book does not have enough substance to appeal to more mature audiences. I was continuously surprised and disappointed by grammar and syntax errors throughout the book. These flaws actually made it difficult for me to continue reading. The characters were not developed enough to make them credible. Their behavior and emotional responses lacked foundation and logical support. I realize it is not easy to create a well written novel. I respect the talent and hard work required to write one. In my opinion, this book needs editing, some remodeling and polish.

I enjoyed this book. I am a big reader of most things paranormal so I think I will read more from this author. I enjoyed the story and the creepiness of this book. It was written very well and I enjoyed the characters and how the author writes and pulled me into the story too. I'm not sure it was a good idea to read the story before bed but I like that about it too. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

This is a story of the fight between good and evil, God and the devil with a modern day twist. I enjoyed the characters and it kept me waiting for the next shoe to drop. Things were going good, going bad then swinging back to triumph more than once. I saw the author is working on a back story about other characters and I'd enjoy reading those since I felt like I only had parts of the story at time. I'd recommend to others as it would be a great weekend read.

It was slow for me.
Good against evil. God against the devil.
Young adult coming into life. Turning 21 isn't just about drinking. It's about taking your place in the small town.
I was just as confused as Daisy was. I don't think she really knew what she wanted in life. Who in their right mind goes along with something that could eventually kill you?

I don't know. We all have our own preferences of book. You might enjoy this more than I did.

Black 21 by Nancy Glynn opens as if you were watching a drama, from the warm and comfortable sofa or chaise lounge. Black 21 is brimming with a tinge of curiosity, sensuality, suspense mixed within it.

Black 21 is not a book for the weak of heart or anyone under the age of 21. I recommend this narrative to readers who enjoy darkness of a paranormal romance.
