Kat is a widowed mother of two who is ready to fall in love again, or at the least indulge in a decent one night stand. On the weekend of her 37th birthday her girlfriends drag her to the city in the hope of instilling a little fun back into her life. The last person Kat expects to meet is, Jake. A strong, handsome male stripper…who remembers her. Kat is swept off her feet by the gorgeous, masculine entertainer as one night leads to an entire weekend of emotional and physical exploration of one another with Jake wanting more. But how can their relationship possibly stretch beyond the weekend? He’s a city boy and she’s a country girl. She has kids and is dealing with the loss of her husband while he is busy simply enjoying life. Their worlds clearly collide. However these little worries turn out to be the least of their problems.
I’m a happy farmer’s wife and a dedicated mother of two. I work part-time on our farm and rarely want to do anything other than write in my spare time.
I’ve only been writing since September 2014 and even though it’s taken a long time for me to realise what it is I want to do with my life (regarding career choice) I can’t tell you how comfortable and confident I feel when I write.
Why do I write? Because I want to make people cry, laugh, feel every aching heartbreak and moment of pure elation and point of ecstasy my characters experience.
Admitting to myself and others that I wanted to write and become a published author, at first, was confusing and scary to them and me. Never had I thought it be possible that I write more than one full length novel…but I have and now I am a published author.
I hope you enjoy my novels and all future novels yet to be published by me.
A wonderful story on second chance love in the most unlikely fashion. A great funny, witty and interesting story for romance readers. Great job for a first book for Stacey McCoy author. Great story.
Intoxicated has an impressive story line, with a great aspect of finding love a second time around. Although it doesn't come easy. Intoxicated explores challenges of country versus city lifestyle, and the sacrifices made for your own children and a relationship among many other things. Such an amazing effort and storyline for a first novel, and I will be reading Stacey's next!
Intoxicated was an addictive read. I found I couldn't put it down..Through the eyes of Kat who struggles with the loss of her husband and a whirlwind of emotions that come with taking a chance on love again. I found myself on a journey with Kat feeling all her pain, laughter and joy along the way. A very good effort for your first release, you should be proud. Looking forward to your next novel.
i am so happy i came across this book at my local market. i had never heard of stacey bit couldnt wait to read her book and when i found out its her first it made me want to read it even more. it didnt disappoint either it has a strong storyline thats real life and makes you feel like your part of the story with characters that are hard to forget. i loved this book and think you will to if you love a happily ever after with a lot of ups and downs.
thanks for writing this book, what a book you had me laughing, crying and the way you wrote about her feelings losing her husband were spot on . As l know that feeling very well I had memories flooding back happy and sad, but thank you it was a fantastic book to read well done all the best
I don't usually read this genre, but I thought it had some great twists and was a real page turner. The characters and plot were insightful and emotive and I really enjoyed it! There were interesting vulnerabilities to the characters too that were unexpected. A great debut novel!
Having only read the first two books from Stacey McCoy’s Reanimation trilogy, I wasn’t sure what to expect from her debut novel Intoxicated. But I was pleasantly surprised to find yet another story I couldn’t put down as I fell in love with widowed mother of two Kat and hot stud-muffin Jake she reconnects with on a trip to Melbourne.
Intoxicated is full of steamy, panty-wetting sex scenes (and with sexy Jake in the bedroom you could never go wrong 😉), two authentic characters whose backstories are heartfelt, genuine and so very real, and a cast of supporting characters that will have you laughing out loud and nodding in agreement as Kat’s girlfriends help her to see there is life after loss.
“Yeah, I can see why you think it might be a challenge, but challenge accepted I say. You just say the word Kat and I’ll be there, anywhere, anytime, whenever, whatever you wantâ€
Jake is the sweetest, most romantic guy ever. He almost feels too good to be true, but in a romance novel I am totally fine with a bit of escapism when it comes to such a fine, swoon-worthy hero. The things he says and does for Kat are just beautiful and you’ll definitely want a Jake for yourself!! There’s some drama and some unexpected twists, but at it’s heart Intoxicated is a beautiful story about two people finding love with one another.
Time to review this book by lovely indie author @staceymccoyauthor. I'm generally not attracted to books with muscle-bound males on the cover (they seem intimidating and unnecessarily bulked up *unless its @terrycrews 😂* ) but I chose this book based on the blurb and the fact that a local bookshop actually stocked an indie author! It was such a beautiful story, it really captured the essence of how, regardless of appearance, career or lifestyle, love will find a way when it's truly meant to be (muscle-bound studs need loving too!). This book also captured the Aussie rural spirit at its best - friends supporting each other in their community and no one getting left behind (some laugh-out-loud moments too!) This book came to me at a time in my life where I really connected with it, and even found myself sobbing. The major tragedy of the story dragged up lots of pain and heartache from tragedy that affected my own family. Jake the muscle man/burlesque dancer was, at the end of the day, a loving and down to earth man who wasn't interested in creating drama or being all alpha and shit - all he wanted to do was love his woman and her children. He didn't mind if that meant looking foolish while getting pranked by protective country blokes either! So refreshing.
Wow, this was some story! Love, loss and second chances. I truly enjoyed this, in fact I didn't really want it to end, and it is so refreshing to read a book where the hero is the one who has no doubts, the one who knows exactly how deeply in love he is and refuses to let go.
Beautifully written, McCoy captures the emotions and struggles faced when, not only have you lost the love of your life, but also knowing when it's time to let that part of the past go, and begin to move on, without being disrespectful to your loved one's memory.
The romance between Kat and Jake is delicious, but would be far less entertaining if not for the incredible supporting cast of friends, family and co-workers - all combining to make an intoxicating read...go on treat yourselves, you'll not be disappointed.
Bought this book from Stacey. Found her on Facebook. Highly recommend this book who loves rural romance it's different from normal rural romance with city involved in it it's sad but also happy loved loved this book so much I can not wait until Stacey realises more books. Please everyone jump on Stacey McCoys band wagon a great author that needs to get out there more
A country meets city romance that will fill your heart with warmth and love. There are moments that are heartbreakingly tender, moments of pure joy, moments of sexy hot passion and moments where you will be just laughing out loud. This book takes you on a journey of love, loss and moving on and is well worth a read.
Loved this story. Kat lost her love and never thought she would feel again. Then Jake happened and the rest is history. There was love, passion, steam and of course twists. All in all a fantastic book and I look forward to reading more.
Hot and steamy this book will certainly send hearts racing. Well written storyline with a twist you could probably guess as the story develops. Country girl and city boy meet with their story keeping you entertained. Well done Stacey on your first book!
Thought it was a bit boring and Jake too good to be true however no Spelling/ Grammar mistakes. Also I am not in the habit of calling women mate, it is an Aussie male thing.
I went to school with Stacey so I couldn't wait to read this and it didn't disappoint. Jake Jake Jake sounds like a wonderful amazing character and was hard not to like him. He was my favorite. I look forward to reading more of Stacey's work in the future. I wish the book had gone for much longer.
So glad I was given this book as I would have been annoyed to pay for it. As a person who reads many books, I could see all the mistakes. Writer not taught to spell properly and probably taught by those who can't spell themselves. Proof readers should have pulled her up on this before printing, but they probably can't spell anyway. Story line flows along and characters are interesting. But people have not been honest to this writer and that will not help her if she releases more books at any stage. Oh and I liked the cover
I absolutely loved this book, it was well written and had a great story line. I have seen there have been many reviews for bad spelling and grammar, I can confidently say that the book I read had no such thing. I'm a grammar nazi so I would have picked up on it if it was there :) Great work Stacey on your wonderful first book, looking forward to lots more to come in the future!
Good story but bad spelling and lack of lots of punctuation let it down. Simple words like no / know , he's / his . Surprised that it states in acknowledgements that it was edited as I would not think that a good editor would let it be published like that
I realize this isn't literary fiction, but I do expect better than this. Maybe next time I buy a book I look at the writer's page on this site and not the half naked bloke on the cover - bad Tiff! Mistakes - numerous. Story - ok. Bloke - cute.
For me Stacey nailed the first 12 months following a sudden bereavement - many of the heartfelt moments resonated clearly with me. We share in the beginnings of the journey to recovery for Kat with the introduction of Jake, 2 steps forward and 1 step back all the way along. Intoxicated was a really enjoyable read - however, beware the pitfalls of self publishing, there are many errors that should have been corrected in editing that took a bit of the shine off. Good for you Stacey for keeping the pace up so the slip-ups were mostly forgiven. Looking forward to reading more of your work. :)
