I am just a sucker for books about dogs. Saw this one at the local Humane Society resale shop and snatched it up.

Simon is a pointer living in a large city. He would very much like to be a Pointer who hunts for his person but he makes do by pointing at pigeons and the occasional scurrying beast.

He enjoys his walks around the neighborhood.

He enjoys time spent with his person.

And while his life isn't heroic or even really notable, he's a bright spot about the neighborhood until its found out he has a medical condition of an overlarge heart.

Told mostly in a few lines per page, with charming pencil drawings of Simon scattered throughout, this is a lovely little book about a dog's life and a dog's death.

The book is ok. Kind of a poetic look at the experience of getting an unintended Pointer puppy and what follows. What really makes the book, and why I gave it 3 stars instead of 2, is the illustrations. They are fabulous!
