Dainton is in love with two things that should perhaps only be flirted with: Thought experiments and the introduction of terminology. BD's over-reliance on thought experiments may weaken his thesis--that selves are a system of experiential capacities--while his unnecessary proliferation of new terms (e.g. E-related, C-system, P-whatever) exhibits poor style.
His arguments are interesting and often well-developed, but it is my opinion that the theory comes up short.
