The military has been fighting a losing battle against the Variants. These men-turned-monsters are evolving. With each passing day, they grow stronger and fiercer.
When the Variants threaten to destroy a vital naval base, Staff Sergeant Jose Garcia leads a suicidal recon mission into Variant-infested North Carolina. But for Garcia, the mission isn’t just about finding vital intel. It’s personal. North Carolina used to be his home. It was there the Variants killed his wife and daughter.
In a desperate race against time, Garcia must confront his own inner demons while facing enemies more terrifying than any he has seen before. And if he fails, the US military will lose one of the only surviving bases holding them together.
Anthony J Melchiorri is a scientist with a PhD in bioengineering. Originally from the Midwest, he now lives in Texas. By day, he develops cellular therapies and 3D-printable artificial organs. By night, he writes apocalyptic, medical, and science-fiction thrillers that blend real-world research with other-worldly possibility. When he isn't in the lab or at the keyboard, he spends his time running, reading, hiking, and traveling in search of new story ideas.
My first glimpse into the writing of Mr. Melchiorri and I was not disappointed!
Jose Garcia is a well-known and loved character in the 'Extinction Cycle' series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith. His tattooed cross with the names of his fallen brothers is known, but how it got filled up is not. This is his story.
In the fight against the Variants, he has done his best to stem the tide of this horrific event. But where are they coming from? Do they have a secret nest or hiding place that the few remaining U.S. drones can't find? Garcia and his team must find out where they are basing themselves....in order to destroy them.
Garcia and his team might find the Variants' base, but there's a whole lot more to be discovered.... Very well done!
The Variants were dug in, literally, on the barrier island. The Variant Hunters, elite operators, were sent in to investigate the island's missing population.
Kindle Worlds - Extinction Cycle - has brought hours of reading fun into my life. Reading other authors' take on the ECycle world has been rewarding and amusing. This was the last of the novels I was able to secure after Amazon ended the program. Anthony J Melchiorri added his take and it was excellent fun in the ECycle tradition. I'm glad I snatched this up and got a couple hours of entertainment once again in the Extinction Cycle world! Thanks, Anthony!
Book was amazing and I believe it takes place right before either extinction war or aftermath. It expands Sgt. Garcia who has become my favorite character in the series. We meet many new characters and watch their fates play out as Garcia and his Recon Marines search for a variant lair in North Carolina. It is action packed throughout the entire book and I don't regret reading it.
If you enjoyed reading the Extinction Cycle books or love stories about post-apocalyptic monster infested worlds, you will love this book! In Darkness Evolved, we get to see Staff Sergeant Jose Garcia (among my favorite characters in the Extinction Cycle) on a mission to find information about the variants. It's a thrilling story and a great addition to the Extinction Cycle world!
I'm a Zombie fan but the Variants are a whole new crazy creature altogether, I'm loving this! Please keep up the great writing, your works are pure science fiction at its very best.
