If you love to read about Old West adventures in the time of silver and gold prospectors, this romance is for you! Although I did not read the other books in the “The Wings of the West series yet, this book can stand alone. Molly Rose Simms arrives in Colorado to meet her brother, Robert. However, Robert is no where to be found. Instead, she finds herself searching for the mythical Bluebird mining claim with a man known as The Jackal (Jake). As partners they don't always get along, but the chemistry is strong and the reader is eager to follow the ups and downs of their western journey and their relationship. Thanks for the win! Enjoyed the book and will share!

The author gives you a highly entertaining read that holds you attention with mystery, suspense , love triangle, with a touch of humor, fear that takes you on a compelling read leaving you guessing to who, what, when and where. Everyone is looking for the mine of all mines with a little bit of everything in it. The finder will be wealthy beyond his or her wildest dreams. Is there really such a mine or a old wife’s tale?

Molly is a very independent woman who wants to have the same rights as men. She finally gets her parents to let her travel to visit her brother in hopes of getting him to travel with her. What she finds is one missing brother, a strange man with mystery and people out to find out what she knows. There might even be someone out there that may want her dead. She doesn’t know who to trust even when she meets her brother’s partner she is afraid to trust him.

Jake is left with the unknown things just are not adding up leaving him with few answers to a lot of questions. When his partner’s sister shows up he is even more divided does she knows something he should know? Can she be trusted? Just were the heck is her brother anyway?

The supporting characters add so much to the plot giving you a story that keeps you guessing to the outcome. Is the brother dead if so who killed him? Why is her brother hiding things? Top all this off there is a man who wants it all and plans to have it one way or the other. Is he a killer? Who is killing the minders? The list goes on and on twisting and turning you all the way through the book. Just when you think you have a handle on the answers they change again. This was a very intriguing story that really holds your interest as each character must deal with murder, blackmail, betrayal as each race to find this mystery Bluebird.

I really enjoy the buildup of the relationship between Molly and Jake. The chemistry between these two is very strong from the start as they fight their attraction they butt heads pulling the reader in to see where they will take this. There is so much going against them with so many people trying to keep them apart. There are bad men, good men and some that are questionable. It does seem everyone is hiding something even dear sweet Jake. This was a very well written story that pulls you in keeping you invest in the story and characters. I really didn’t want to put it down I wanted to find out all the answers and see how the romance would turn out. If you are looking for a fast paced action packed story with mystery, questionable characters that will keep you turning the pages this is the story for you.

I won this book from the author. I was not asked for a favorable review. All thoughts are my own. This is the 5th book in the series and this has the children of the older sister Mary from the first book, I loved each of these books in the series and the descriptions of the area that each happened was so vivid you could imagine you being there And by putting each of the girls in a challenging situation showed how women living in the west during this time had a lot of struggles and overcame a lot to live with. I loved this series.

Molly went to visit her brother but couldn't find him. She thought he might be in some kind of trouble with him looking for gold and all. He wasn't there when she got there. She ran in to Jake literally, because he was looking for him to, they are/were partners. So they set off together to find him. They both run into trouble along the way, but turned out well in the end.

This is only the second historical fiction book that I have read. I really enjoyed it and following the journey of the characters on their mining adventures! This book is number five in a series but it works well as a stand alone.

Molly Rose & Jake

Molly Rose reached Creede, Colorado only to miss connection with her brother. He was supposed to meet her at the station. She meets Jake, and finds him irresistible.

Characterization and plotting are excellent.

THE BLUEBIRD – WINGS OF THE WEST, BOOK 5 is a fast paced read with a depth to the characters and the story that kept my interest from the first page to the last as it unfolded. The book is a historical romance that is set in the late 1800’s that is reminiscent to me of Dorothy Wiley’s AMERICAN WILDERNESS SERIES and her WILDERNESS HEARTS ROMANCE SERIES whose backdrop is set in the founding of the West.

Molly Rose has a lot of daring and grit having traveled alone from the Arizona Territory to Creede, Colorado to meet up with her brother, Robert, who left home two years ago and is looking for silver as a prospector. When he’s nowhere to be found her adventure really begins when she meets up with his partner, Jake, better known as The Jackal. There’s an immediate attraction but Molly Rose is an innocent and Jake becomes very protective of her as they search for her brother, the Bluebird Mine and their other claims. There are many characters that live in the area and each has their own story of why they are there and what they’re looking for. Some are good and others pure trouble! Molly Rose feels she’s a good judge of character but Jake doesn’t always agree with her or her logic.

There are family and friends, lots of mining facts, Indians, prospectors out for their own greed, brothels, saloons, the mountains, animals, heartache, sadness, loss, fear, anger, hurt, betrayal, thefts, tears, desolation, riches, happiness, laughter, parties, loving and love. There are quite a few twists to the story that added more depth and suspense to the telling. The descriptions of the lands and the town made me feel that I was there. There is wonderful closure with a happily ever after that was better than anything I could envision. The epilogue, that takes place one year later, ties up the loose ends but definitely left me wanting more!

McCaffery is a new to me author that I look forward to reading more of. This is the first book of McCaffery’s that I’ve read and being it’s the last book in this series I do plan to read the first four books – THE WREN, THE DOVE, THE SPARROW and THE BLACKBIRD, as well as her stand alone books. They will be added to my always growing TBR pile! There were brief synopses of each of the books in the series as well as INTO THE LAND OF SHADOWS at the back of the book that really piqued my interest.

The book is based on history and has a realism to it. The Author’s Note at the back of the book gave some of the history of the area in Colorado that was portrayed in the book. I always appreciate it when author’s provide additional information.

An absolutely gripping new addition to the series! While the first 4 books were closely connected with the characters, this book is set a few years later after young Molly Rose has grown up. She arrives in Colorado to visit her brother, only to find he has disappears. While trying to uncover details about his absence, his old partner and friend, Jake the "Jackal" decides to step in and protect her. With breathtaking adventures into the mountains to search out a mythical lode, they must deal with murder, betrayal, blackmail and a harrowing race to be the first to stake a claim on the mythical lode. Meanwhile, they must also deal with their budding attraction as Molly Rose discovers love and Jake finds himself wishing to settle down for the first time. He has quite a challenge as Molly Rose is intent on living a life of adventure. With quite a few villainous characters and miners that truly have gold fever, this book was absolutely packed with adventure and action that left me breathless at times an had my heart fluttering with the intense romance wrought throughout. I was completely ensnared with this amazing book and found myself quite unable to put it down!

Molly Rose is looking for her brother, what she finds is an intricate scheme and he's right in the thick of it, and because she's trusted Jake, now she is too.

Molly and the mysterious Jake don't get off on the right foot, but the chemistry between them is palpable through the whole story. I loved the action, suspense, and wonderful tension between the H/h through the whole novel. Highly recommend.

This novel was given to me so that I might review it. I was in no way required to leave one and the views expressed are my own.

This story sat at 3 stars for me (lack of depth - surface story only) until the second half of the book when things got interesting! The twists and turns were both surprising and creative. So... surface story only but a great story it ended up being!

Great Story

I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in this exciting romance. This tale of with its motley collection of silver and gold prospectors chasing the dream and stumbling over each other, sometimes with deadly results kept things interesting. In the end, it was surprising who ended up as partners and their motives. Well-written written, as usual.

Another successful Wings of the West book. The Bluebird is another wonderful and unique western story by Kristy McCaffrey. There are many twists and turns in this adventure that will have you guessing and re-guessing before you get to the happily ever after.
