Johnnie Marlowe #1

Castleton's Treasure

Rate this book
In 1952, eleven year old Johnnie Marlowe and friends search for a cache of gold bars that was buried near the town of Sheffield, Pennsylvania during the Civil War. The boys are threatened by a gang of teen age toughs who are also seeking the treasure. Flashbacks to the 1860s introduce Johnnie’s great grandfather, who long ago may have provided clues to the site of the treasure that Johnnie finds in a trunk in his family’s attic. The boys and thugs confront each other in a climactic battle where an awesome weapon once used by Johnnie’s ancestor against Confederate marauders years before is once again employed against the hoodlums.

I loved reading about people in my hometown. The detailed descriptions made the story believable. It takes place during my childhood in the ‘50s. What a fun read!
