“You know, I was never that happy to see my best friends. I just don’t understand it.”
“Well, Mother, then maybe you never had a friend as good as Jack because I miss her all the time when we’re apart."

I just love gal pals, don't you?

"The two had felt an instant bond between them. Small glances and touches made that bond grow every day they spent together. They weren’t sure exactly what the feeling was between them, they just knew they couldn’t wait to see the other and feel it again."

What a beautiful childhood friends to lovers this was. The characters were so well written, not just the two MCs but Jackie and Erin's dad. I loved everyone except Katie, she can choke. Erin/Hawk and Jackson was so adorable. The cluelessness especially of Erin, the continuous praise of each other, wow!

"Jack. You’re one of the smartest people I know."
"You’re really talented, Hawk. Never stop drawing or your biggest fan will be really sad."

I really wish them realizing their feelings for each other should've been given more focus, especially to Erin's.. The tattoo scene aka the turning point of their relationship was my favourite scene easily.
Every few pages the book teased the 'reason for their separation' It was so frustrating and scary like just tell me already. I was expecting the reveal to be a bigger thing and more hurtful tbh.

"Without you in her life, her eyes don’t sparkle anymore. … When she came in last night after talking to you, that sparkle was back."
I love how Jackie always supported their relationship.

"Why on earth would you do something so ridiculous?”
Erin turned to face her. “It’s quite simple, Mother. Because I love her.”
Katie could hardly form her next words she was so flabbergasted. “Wh…what do you mean by that?”
“I. Love. Her. Does that honestly surprise you? Did you think I could ever forget about her, even after all this time?” When Katie just sat and stared at her, she continued. “I know you did your damnedest to keep us apart, Mother, but I’m not a child anymore and I’m finally going to live my life the way I choose. I choose to be with Jack.”

Finally!!! She told Katie off. You know what that is? Growth.

"'Sure it will, Jack. Who wouldn’t want to spend their life here with you?” If it wouldn’t make my mom go into a tizzy fit, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
“You never know, Hawk. You never know.”'

I KNEW IT!!!

This is such a sweet story. I love every bit of it and especially the ending. Although I'm not a fan of stories that jump back and forth between the present and past in Tomahawk'd that works just great. The main characters are two very likable people on their journey from girls to women, their journey to love and family.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sweet and tender love stories.

Sweet!
Nothing extraordinary but there is no way one can read this and not regard this story as heart-warming.

Despite falling under the umbrella of Lesbian Erotic Fiction (which I tend to avoid), this piece represents a period piece (early 1990s), a modern teen girl bildungsroman and contains many supportive lesbian (and antagonist lesbian) characters.... and hilarious homophobes. The Wisconsin Dells scenery was warm and familiar to me personally, but might be exotic for some. I do think it's tragic that this piece wasn't billed as YA and given a wider audience.

Cute, sweet story. Not much really going on in the way of a new or different plot, but it's a great piece of nostalgia. My only complaint was the hackneyed tacked on "epilogue". Other than that, it was an enjoyable read.
