Danny 'Madman' Maddox isn’t supposed to make Skylar Haze's heart beat out of rhythm.

At least not anymore.

She hasn't seen that boyish face, always covered in a five o'clock shadow, dimpled smile and teasing hazel eyes since the day he left to go on tour with her brother Joey's band. Now with a major record label backing them the band is in need of a bit of help, and when Joey asks Skylar to be the band's photographer, she can't help but say yes.

Of course, Joey doesn’t know about that forbidden kiss.

The one Skylar hopes Danny’s forgotten.

But can she?

One smile and she finds herself slipping again.

But he’s the drummer, and he’s beaten her heart before.

And she won’t let it happen again.

18 year old Skylar doesn't really know what to do with her life. Her parents want her to go to college and she wants to do something with her passion for photography.

About to sign on for summer classes her big brother comes up with the most perfect idea!
She's going to come on tour with their band and be their tour photographer!

They've been doing this official band thing for three years now - ever since they left their hometown when they were 18.

The only problem with this new job is Danny. Skylar's first love. Her first kiss and the guy who never called these last three years.
He's been her best friend growing up. And she was the only one he could confide in about his horrible home-life.
And now they're supposed to live together in a tiny tour bus?

And poor brother Joey - he doesn't know a thing about the history of his little sister and his best buddy!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THAT TOUR???
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT! ☺☺☺

Give me a rockstar book and I'm happy. This is and will always be my favorite kind of romance!

description

And this story was adorably rockstarish!
I loved the whole rockstar part of it. We're on tour - on the bus - on stage - doing promo stuff like radio interviews and mall signings and video shoots.
I want to go back 20 years and be Skylar! This would've been my dream back then. Living on a tourbus with 3 guys who love you like brothers. Or in Danny's case NOT like a brother! ☺

And since I have to say I would have to go back in time 20 years for me to be that age, this book was a tiny little bit too young for me. Skylar is 18. All through the book she's 18 and the guys are 21/22. And she's a skater-girl. That is so far outside my real life. I only know male skaters - and those only in the 1990's ☺

But anyway - I still loved the story.

Next to being rockstars on tour, we deal with something very serious, something that's always there, has always been a problem and will unfortunately always be a thing in schools: BULLYING!

Skylar had huge problems at school once the guys left to be rockstars.
And even though some years have gone buy, she's still stuck in that painful time. But Danny and the boys will help her with that!

They're all so adorable. Slightly over-the-top crazy in Zack's case! ☺

I loved them all!

Can't wait which band or bandmember we'll get to see in the next book!

OUT OF BEAT was an amazingy adorable and serious rockstar romance! Run to your nearest amazon for your own ride in that tourbus!!!!

If I had to name some things I didn't like... As I mentioned before, the age thing. I'm a bit old for such books. And I don't know if it's because of their age, but I was a bit disappointed that we didn't have any SEX in here. We fade to black before the only sex happens. I don't like books - rockstar books - without any sexy scenes. It was still adorably romantic but I missed it.

The writing was a bit weird here and there. Some expressions got on my nerves after reading them 20 times. Like HE COUGHED IN HIS HAND - SHE PUT HER CHIN ON HER SHOULDER - weird things like that. Too often.

BUT - other than that I really enjoyed the book. I finished it in one day!

4.5 Stars - most of those stars are for the amazing rockstarness of the book ☺☺☺

My Rating:

4.5

Favorite Quote:

Will you promise me that somewhere, when we’re both ready, that forever is what we’ll have to make ridiculous promises?

My Review:

Out of Beat was an entertaining, engaging, and sweet and tender upper YA/mild NA hybrid. Although either of those genres would be a rare read for me, I enjoyed the novel start to finish. The writing was extremely insightful, observant, emotive, and each scene and thought process was well detailed and easily to follow. I revelled in the ease, playfulness, and supportiveness of the band members’ relationships; as well as their wit, banter, and interplay. The characters were adorable and endearingly flawed while the story was relevant, powerful, and highly relatable. Having been heinously bullied in high school by an odious rat bastard and his mindless minions, the storyline resonated strongly with me, despite the 40 odd years since that hideous period of my life. The friends to lovers trope remains one of my favorites and Ms. Giovanni’s work was well crafted and heart squeezing. I also derived great pleasure in the thoughtful music with a message and public service actions the band members employed. This was my first maiden voyage in reading Ms. Giovanni’s words, and it was and enjoyable journey that I look forward to repeating.

Reading a book written by Cassandra Giovanni is always a promise...
A promise of :
- Flawless writing
- Characters you're going to fall in love with
- Not being able to put the book down until it's finished
- Never wanting said book to end

Well, guess what... Out of Beats is no exception!

I could ramble on for hours about Cassandra's writing, always simple yet beautiful and polished.

The book is both cute and fun with Sky embarking on the crazy adventure of living on the road with the pop-punk band Kill Me Softly, whose members are respectively Sky's brother (Joey) , Sky's best friend/love interest who ran away (Danny), and two other crazy boys (Zack and Aaron) that she considers family. The story deals with love, brotherhood, friendship, and will make you both swoon and laugh without a doubt.

Out of Beats also deals with far more painful subjects (which I will let you discover about). One of Cassandra's quality is to always manage to deal with such subjects with honesty and a lot of decency, even sometimes a kind of shyness. It never falls into melodrama, and focuses on the characters' will to move on from their past.
I must confess, though, that I would have wanted them to have a little more closure regarding those issues, but I guess it was more realistic that way.

Anyway, if you're looking for a book you won't be able to put down, and that will make you go through a remarkable range of emotions, look no further !!

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite storylines, and this sweet story did not disappoint. The characters were very likable and I wanted everything to work out for them so much . . . and the rock star aspect was absolutely charming. This reminded me a lot of Katie McGarry's stories as far as the way the author creates emotionally realistic characters who aren't perfect, and support each other when things go wrong. A very enjoyable read.

This is the first time I have listened to anything that has been narrated by Kaye Anderson and I did enjoy listening to her voice although I did find this story took me a few chapters to get into.

Skyler and Danny's story is a sweet bestfriends to lovers romance.
A couple of years ago after sharing a kiss Danny left Skyler to go on tour with his band and Skylers life took a bad turn.
Now a fantastic opportunity has arisen and Skyler and Danny find themselves in close quarters.

Will this finally be the start of something beautiful for them both?

Overall an enjoyable read and I will be reading the rest of this series.

4.5 Stars! Between unpacking (we bought a house!) and the holidays, my reading time SUFFERED...greatly. Much to my dismay, it took me quite a bit longer to finish reading this book. Boo, I know!! But finally, after sneaking in some much needed and overdue reading time, I finished!

I must say, I really enjoyed Danny and Sky's *heartwarming* story. From their teenage years, they shared an intense and undeniable connection that would undoubtedly withstand the test of time. I knew it. Their chemistry only got stronger as the years passed and while they both had deep scars, they only brought them closer. They bonded even more. While situations caused Danny to not be there for Sky at a very crucial and heartbreaking time, he was there to help her heal. And in many ways, she was as well for him.

One of the things I love most about Cassandra's writing is how she not only tells us a story, but she shows us one. She creates storylines and secondary characters that bring everything full circle...that bring a book to life. You can't help but feel emotionally invested in these different journeys and root for happy endings. I was walking alongside the characters through every up and down, twist and turn. I've noticed that always happens while I'm reading one of Ms. Giovanni's novels.

I cannot wait to see more of these characters! Seriously! Joey, Aaron, Zack-Such great guys! Funny, witty, sexy, down to earth, and completely realistic and relatable. They were my "brothers" too! One other thing I loved about them was that while they were in a band and they'd gotten pretty famous, there wasn't any made up or unnecessary drama that's usually involved in books with musicians. Issues within this book went beyond drama. They were real, heartbreaking situations that brought all of the characters together.

All in all, a great read and one I recommend you pick up!

Love and loss are two things hard enough to deal with, watching the only one you've ever loved walk out the door, even though you know it is for the best. All the men in the bad are characters you can love and hate in a good way. This story gives the feel of you being right there with them on the tour bus and in the concert arenas and just in their lives as you learn a little bit about each of them. Just like Cassandra Giovanni's Beautifully Flawed series, she has definitely captured my heart with this one.

When 18-year-old Skylar is invited to go on a road trip with her brother and his pop rock band, little does she know it will change her life. It seems pretty exciting until she realizes having to share a bus with four smelly, unruly guys isn't all glamour. Skylar uses her organizational skills to whip them into shape while learning more about herself than she is willing to admit. Between secrets and hidden emotions, interviews and sold out performances, spats and love, they all help each other grow and become who they need to be. The author does an excellent job of taking the reader inside the world of a pop rock band and inside the mind of a confused teenager on the cusp of adulthood. A great young adult novel with plenty of action, written with care and insight.

Boys, brothers, and family making their dreams come true is exactly what Out of Beat is about. Yet, there is so much more to this story. There is romance, love, 100% support, and truths shared. Out of Beat is a new series by Cassandra Giovanni. Each book in this series will be its own story centering around music and bands.

Each member of the band has their own story yet Out of Beat centers around Danny and Skylar. They have shared secrets, protected each other, and loved each other for most of their lives. Their relationship was always brother/sister like until the night before Danny left to live his dream. One kiss changed everything. I loved their relationship. It was one that started with friendship and respect then moved into more. I really liked that they respected their friendship and didn’t push it to be more than what it was. Yet, they both knew that they were it for each other. There was never any doubt that Danny and Skylar would end up together.

The friendships of the other band members was just as enjoyable. The jokes, the smiles, the travelling, and the hanging out were all realistic. The traveling with the band in the RV was sure to cause fights or arguments. I liked that they could talk them out, drink them out, or play them out instead of coming to blows or just yelling at each other.

I am excited about this series of books and cannot wait to read more. It is great that each book will standalone yet have a similar theme. Cassandra Giovanni has a great start. I recommend picking up your own copy.

Out of Beat by Cassandra Giovanni is the first book in her new Boys of Fallout series. Rocker romance that is much more on the young new adult side with it's minimal cussing and fade to black love scenes. The pace was slow but steady and the characters were well-written. The story is NOT overly dramatic but does touch on some deep topics such as child abuse, domestic violence, and bullying. The characters also grow and learn to lean on those they trust and that sharing your story can ease your burden.

The two main characters in this, Danny and Skylar are best friends. Danny is the drummer in a band with Sky's brother and two other guys, Zack and Aaron. They are all as close with her as her brother is but Danny and Sky are closer than that. After one shared kiss years ago, They're back and taking her on the road with them to be their photographer.

The story covers their lives on tour, their success that grows as they become more cohesive as a team and family, and has a happy ending.

Another great addition to Giovanni's collection. She definitely does not back down from the difficult subjects. Instead, she faces them head on.

In "Out of Beat" we meet Skylar who gets asked to embark on a summer long tour with her brother Joey's band, that's great and full expect for one teeny tiny hurdle......the bands drummer, Danny, the man she's loved forever.

Danny was always the one that got away, and took Skylar’s heart with him.
No one has ever compared.

I really enjoyed how Giovanni creates life on the road with the band and Sky's involvement with the tour. The banter between the boys is great and spunky. They have distinctive personalities, qualms with each other (who wouldn't when you have x4 guys and x1 gal on the bus), and their deep bond is tested with Sky in the mix. But it's Sky's history and connection to Danny that truly tests her.

There is romance, love, 100% support, and truths needed to be shared.

Just like Cassandra Giovanni's Beautifully Flawed series, she has definitely captured my heart with this one.

I cannot wait to see more of these characters! Seriously! Joey, Aaron, Zack-Such great guys! Funny, witty, sexy, down to earth, and completely realistic.

Out of Beat by Cassandra Giovanni
***4 stars***

Received an advanced readers copy by the author for an honest review.

Super sweet story about reuniting true love, overcoming past tragedies, and mixing it all up with a little rock n roll. Skylar has always been close with her brother Joey and his band mates, so when they leave on tour and she’s left to fend for herself, she discovers that real life has its definite ups and downs.

Danny was always the one that got away, and took Skylar’s heart with him. No one has ever compared, and when he’s finally back in her life, she knows she can’t let him slip away again. Being asked to do photography for the band, she’s now thrust into the madness that is her brother and the band, and all that comes with it.

Secrets are revealed and whether they can all move past the lies and deceit that some of them feel, will be the true test of family and friendship. Loved all the boys in the band, they’re a riot, and bring much needed comic relief in times of sadness. This story shows the true meaning of friends that are family, and finding yourself and the love you thought was lost. Beautiful and fun all wrapped in one!

Received an advanced readers copy from the author for an honest review. Releases December 6

Out of Beat (Boys of Fallout, #1) by Cassandra Giovanni is another terrific NA read. Giovanni does not back down from the difficult subjects. Instead, she faces them head on and treats them with honesty and respect. In this one she tackles, bullying, child abuse, and relationship violence, leading to depression. Parts of this storyline rang so solidly true that it nearly gutted me. But worry not, Giovanni once again brings 'family' together for a much earned HEA. Honestly, without the editing errors, this would easily have been 5 stars.
(I have learned that this is an unedited ARC, so I am certain the minor errors have been corrected. I have updated my rating accordingly.)

THIS BOOK WAS SO FREAKING GREAT!!! I am so honored that Cassandra allowed me to review it! I seriously could not stop reading it, I stayed up way later than I usually do until I fell asleep reading. Life got in the way making me take longer to read than usual and I absolutely could not wait to get back to it. This book will seriously make you feel every emotion and laugh out loud. The characters are extremely likable.

Danny and Skylars relationship in the beginning seems a bit too easy. He just left and never kept in touch. If that was done to me I would be a little pissed about it. But Danny is just so adorable you can’t help but forgive him. This book was seriously too amazing! I cannot recommend it enough, and it is definitely a new favorite!

Sweet & Heartfelt Rocker Romance! Great Narration🎧

Out of Beat
Boys of Fallout, Book 1
By: Cassandra Giovanni
Narrated by: Kaye Anderson

I enjoyed everything about this great book, Cassandra Giovanni has a wonderful writing style she draws you right into her story and holds your mind captive straight to the end. She creates interesting storylines, they are original and realistic. Her characters are complex and well developed. I adored both leads, Skylar and Danny, they’ve been friends and shared a special bond. Danny is in a band named “Kill Me Softly” with her brother Joey and friends Aaron and Zack, they are on the verge of making it big. The band are all like brothers to her, when Joey asks Skylar to come on tour with them and become the bands photographer she agrees. She handles their social media and helps them get more notice. She just does not know how to handle, she has feelings for him but fights them, afraid he does not feel the same and afraid of what her brother or the rest of the band would think. I loved how their story played out, also loved the dynamics of the band and how they were like family. This is a great young/new adult rocker romance, there is never a dull moment in this book, there is drama, a touch of angst, some heartfelt moments and a wonderful friends to lovers romance. Cassandra Giovanni, thank you for another great book!

I listened to the Audible edition, Kaye Anderson is a great narrator and talented voice artist. She brings the characters to life giving each their own voice and personality. She does a great job covering both the male and female roles and her portrayal of each character is spot on. She captures their emotions and the drama of the story which is reflected and heard in her performance. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen🎧

This was a Goodreads giveaway win.

This book was okay. The story was fine. Sky has had a tough time with the end of high school and beginning of her adult life. Her brother, Joey, has been on tour with his band for the past few years. Her high school crush, Danny, is the drummer of the band and she has not seen or spoken to him in this time. All she has is the memory of them kissing the night before they left. When they return on a break from tour, she has to deal with all of these emotions again, as well as the pain of what happened while they were gone.

As the story progresses, it goes through some of that familiar lovey-dovey junk, as well as some events that seem rather unlikely to me, as far as the advancement of Sky's career. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, it just doesn't seem like it would in the real world. That's what made it hard for me to really get into the story, that it wasn't so realistic to me.

All in all, though this wasn't a book I would have picked for myself, there are definitely people who would enjoy it.

When Skylar, the little sister grows up, she is asked to join the band to be their photographer and becomes so much more. When Joey asked his baby sister to join them on the road, he had no idea how much she would help the band.

After a not so honest manager begins to mess up everything on tour, Skylar takes over and helps in so many ways. The thing is, Joey doesn’t know about the secret kiss his little sister shared with Danny right before they left years ago; but Danny has never been able to forget about it. This makes for an exciting tour.

I loved the way this story unfolds as it’s told. It gives just the right amount of backstory exactly when it’s needed to help the flow of the read/listen. Out of Beat, is excellently written to be a quick and smooth read. A perfect road trip or Beach read. I highly recommend this book and rate it with four stars.

3.5 stars - good

I surprised myself by how much I enjoyed this story. I'm glad I read it without reading the description of it, though, as the description is misleading.

Sky doesn't fight her feelings for Danny. Instead, they have a best friends to romantic attachments romance. And it was surprisingly sweet. I really enjoyed seeing them finally reveal their love for one another and to their brothers, the other band members.

I do have to say that I was ready for this story to be over before it ended. But when I read the ending, I realized that it made sense that the story continued on. It was a good ending.

I'll give this story four stars for Goodreads, but it was sadly not without errors. Mostly missing words or extraneous words, no misspellings that I noticed.

So as this was "a very good story, BUT..." I'll give it a 3.5-star "good" rating.

This is a new-to-me author so I was not sure what to expect. This is not the typical rockstar story with tons of meaningless sex and drug abuse. There is a plot!! Skye’s older brother and her best friend, Danny, are members of a rock band...and they’ve invited her to join them on their summer tour as their photographer!! While Skye is excited, she is a bit apprehensive, considering the kiss that she shared with Danny a year ago. How will this duo interact now and will it affect the band?
While I would have liked a quicker pace to the story, it was well written and entertaining. Loved the HEA...the boys in bras...lolol!!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

I listened to the audible version. This was my first introduction to Cassandra Giovanni and Kaye Anderson. The narrator was okay and sounded more natural to me (from the midwest) at 1.25 speed. I did like how she emphasized the lyrics.

The story itself was sweet and I liked the characters. I also liked how close Skylar was with all the band members, how it seemed natural for her to be living with all of them and how goofy they were together. The story brought up abuse and bullying and I appreciated that the band addressed bullying while on their tour, though I think it could have been expanded even more.

Overall, I thought it was a sweet story that I wanted to keep listening to.

I received this book in a giveaway and I really enjoyed it! The relationship that Skylar has with Danny, Joey, Zack and Aaron is perfect. I love how goofy they are with each other and how much they all love one another. The characters are definitely the best part, Giovanni did such a great job with their individual personalities. This book is a good if you just want a fun read. It does deal with some tough issues but the story focuses on the relationship of Skylar and the four boys. I think a few of the scenes could have been handled/ written better but overall this was a fun read.

I want more about the group to read and I wish they were real so I could be best friends with all of them!

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure how much I would be able to get into it as I normally dont like band/rockstar books but it was a very fun read. All the characters have a close knit chemistry with lots of banter and making fun of each other, which pulls you right into the story making you want to be part of the group.

The Narration by Kaye Anderson was a bit monotone and choppy at the beginning. I'm not quite sure if that actually changed and got better as the book went on or if I just got used to it and didn't notice it after a bit. Overall I didn't feel like if hurt the book, it was just an annoyance to start off.

I entered to win this book in a giveaway but when I didn't win I bought it. I'm glad I did. It's such a good book, a cute love story. Another reason I bought it was because the reviews said it was clean, which it is. There's kissing and some crude jokes, but no descriptive sex scenes. I can't say there is no nudity, since there are nude rear ends every now and then. The only problem I have with this book is the language. All the characters swear throughout the book, which in my opinion, is never needed.

Ehh... Where to begin... First, I liked the idea of the story line, going on your with a band who also all happen to be your best friends; It's what led me to buying this book. I love the sibling bond they share however I was not a fan of Zack.... One minute the author was calling him super manly and the next he was in a dude's lap kissing his cheek... Just didn't make sense. Danny was super cheesy. I didn't find him super romantic just sickly sweet...made me kind of nauseous. I liked Aaron and Joey though. Unfortunately I haven't decided if I'm going to read the rest of the series or not....

Out of Beat: Boys of Fallout, Book One was a good read by Cassandra Giovanni. Danny has always Madde Skylar's heart beat out of rhythm but that was supposed to have ended years before. He is the drummer in her brother's band and they asked her to go on tour with them as the photographer. I absolutely loved reading their story and loved them getting closer. I can't wait to read more by Cassandra Giovanni.

A sweet and relatively simple story. I enjoyed getting to know Skylar. What an awesome opportunity she’s given when her brother asks her to be the band photographer for his band’s U.S. tour! The interactions between Skylar and the guys in the band made for a feel good, family type atmosphere. Skylar and Danny (the drummer) have a past that the others are unaware of, but it’s hard to hide their connection. Overall I enjoyed the story.

It's a sweet romance novel, makes you all warm and bubbly inside, it's short but you can connect with the characters. It's got a bit of everything, romance (duh), surprises, humor, it's just a fun book. These boys are so funny I couldn't eat or drink anything while reading because it would just come out or I'd choke. Definitely one of my favorite simple romance novels.
