How do you Fix a Broken Heart?
This is a sweet love story that takes a circuitous route to the main characters HEA. I was looking for a story that wasn't too long, not a paranormal, but definitely more romance than erotica. There are certainly intimate moments between the two MCs yet they aren't the focus of the story.
Well I got what I was seeking. An established professional in a smaller community, that left the prospects of finding what he was searching for less likely. He had a beautiful home, a great best friend, the accolades of his patients, nurses & other female staff at the hospital sighing as he walked by, but he was not interested in their attentions. Actually he wanted what they wanted a good man, who believed in romance, tenderness, and equality in their relationship.
Unfortunately for the good doctor a good man is hard to find. Someone great for a gay man in his thirties feels impossible for Dr McCarthy. He believes in love, but after having his heart broken, even the heart doctor can't fix himself. Lucky for him he has his best friend, Nurse Janet to spend time with and fresh baked gooey cookies to enjoy. Though it isn't the same as having someone to come home to, as well as share the ups and downs of life with. Norman has a furry companion at home, a red tabby whose name means naughty to keep him from being completely alone. The mischievous former stray keeps the doctor on his toes.
When a car mechanic comes into the doctor's life at a very opportune time, he couldn't tell if the man was flirting or just friendly. The doctor can barely take his eyes off the handsome and muscular man with "Frank" is stitched on his uniform. Norman thinks his luck has changed initially from good to terrible. And Frank is in the center of the doctor's conundrum. Why is it so hard to achieve what he desires?
His heart and head hurts from all the sudden turmoil in his life. Seeking solace with his kitty and best friend, Norman finally comes to some realizations about his life and how he's conducted it. Is he miserable because he chooses to be? Or can he change his own life and make it better?
The main characters at times annoyed me, and I kept thinking I knew where the author was leading, but I turned out to be wrong. I was in for a few surprises and a promised HEA.
