I've been reading this classic along with Bertrand Russell's History of Western Philosophy. The latter's sharp, incisive critiques fits really well with the impartial and broad exposition of Reale and Antiseri. One builds, the other smashes to pieces. Definitely a nice, yet long, path for beginners in philosophy like myself.

I must add that the portuguese translation of the book has entire lines matching up with the homolingual (I'm not sure if this word actually exists) translation of the above quoted History of Western Philosophy. Especially, in the third and last volume, where Descartes comes up.

Not particularly insightful, it is nonetheless an admirable piece of work.
