As a 28-year old Irishman l had a charmed life. I was the recipient of a soccer scholarship in the USA, I was co-founder of a successful recruitment firm in Dublin. I became engaged to the love of my life. Life was great, nothing could go wrong, or so I thought. All that changed in January 2001. Brain tumor. Two simple words that describe a cruel, crippling illness that infiltrates mind, body and spirit. When the words “too dangerous to remove” are included in the opening salvo, your mind goes blank, you see lips move but can’t hear a word. I thought my fate was sealed. The hugs from family & friends could not be felt as numbness took over every part of my body.
A lesson of hope, courage, humour and love when facing the hopeless circumstance of cancer. A great read for anybody who tries to empathise with a loved one suffering with this illness.
