About the author

Gottfried August Bürger

437 books10 followers
Gottfried August Bürger was a German poet from Molmerswende (now a part of Mansfeld), Principality of Halberstadt, where his father was the Lutheran pastor. Bürger's talent for popular poetry was very considerable, and his ballads are among the finest in the German language, of which Lenore, Das Lied vom braven Manne, Die Kuh, Der Kaiser und der Abt and Der wilde Jäger are famous. Few of his purely lyrical poems have earned a lasting reputation, though mention may be made of Das Blumchen Wunderhold, Lied an den lieben Mend, and a few love songs.

Did not like it at all, the Romanian translation has some foul language in it, and the tales are quite scary and gruesome, would not read this to children or teenagers at all, and I did not find it enjoyable as an adult either. Riding on half a horse (the horse having been split in half by the castle gate...), a wolf eating through the carcass of a horse, hunting stories of getting the fur of a fox and of killing other animals...

Read this in Latvian. It's funny at the start and the stories are inventive in a fun kind of nonsensically realistic way, the original to Chuck Norris or troll-logic jokes. But it's very repetitive and becomes more and more outlandish, which isn't that fun to read.

In some parts of the book I was laughing so hard, and in the other parts I was slightly irritated. Though, I really enjoyed this book and I was happy to read it again after long time. :D
