Fandom: Harry Potter Relationship: Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley -------------------------------------------------- Ginny is sorted into Slytherin. It takes her seven years to figure out why.
I’m sincerely blown away. So many details that Annerb builds out the canonical world make the universe so much stronger. I can’t imagine I’ll ever read anything new by JKR ever again, and this book makes that reality less stark. The HP universe is vast, and the Changeling gives us new and refreshing insights into the world.
This was the first self published fanfic I’ve read, and I’m so grateful to the folks who recommended it.
first I’d like to say how much I enjoyed this fic. a friend recommended it, and it was brilliant (save for a few things).
the beginning felt a bit rushed. I didn’t understand what was going on in a few parts, and it just felt really bland; after the first two chapters it got much better.
though the fic centred around Ginny, it felt like ?? she didn’t make any mistakes. she seemed a little too perfect in some areas.
Harry retained his character-lessness, meaning he was bland, just like in the books. really awkward too; he made me cringe loads. sir please I thought you had humour 😭
BUT I absolutely adored the parlour bits. and I loved the concept of Ginny being sorted into Slytherin. the writing was better than some traditionally published books I’ve read. and honestly it was just really good. as an example, the fic touched upon how conventionally pretty girls are seen in a bad light by other girls (as per the patriarchy).
also I just really liked the Slytherin bits. no, scratch that, I really like — no past tense — the house unity in all the books too. it just makes me feel warm inside.
Amazing bit of HP fanfiction. Required reading for everyone. Annerb's Ginny is just like the one in Canon, even though she's a Slytherin. It's one of those stories that reminds you that people are more than just your impression of them. People are complex.
this was so well written and i absolutely loved ginny as a slytherin. stayed canonical plot-wise but filled the gap of what it was like being a hogwarts student during the deathly hallows. it was very thematic and entirely ginny-centric and i quite liked how limited hinny was. the writing style reflected ginny's experience as a slytherin each year and everything was so well thought out and the characterizations were on point and not once was it cringe or cliche to read. i loved the full circle draco + ginny moment at the end and altho i want to see ginny in her seventh year, i think the ff ended in the right place but apparently there is full on series??? i can't wait.
So incredibly fabulous. The insights into the profiles of who is in each House. The difference in approach and interpersonal relationships when all the main plot points stay the same. So impressive. Brought me right back to the Harry Potter world that I love.
This is a Harry Potter fanfiction that centers around the question of what if Ginny had been sent to Slytherin. Usually, wouldn’t have gone that way.
I found out about it when searching for Hinny fanfiction recs, from the tumblr page champagne & rain, where the post author talked so passionately about it I decided to give it a try.
Hands down one of the best decisions ever!
This is what I look for when I say I want a dark cunning Slytherin point of view. This is what I think of when I get those edits on TikTok that are based on the darkness and ambiguity of this universe.
Also, this is Ginny at her best.
The Ginny Annerb paints in this work is everything I imagined her to be and more. She suffers and thrives because of the house she is put in, but you can clearly see without it she wouldn’t have reached her full potential. This Ginny is powerful, menacing and often cold, independent and headstrong, with an ability to do whatever is necessary in order to ensure the survival of the many. She can’t allow herself to hesitate, and at every hesitation she is punished and pushed to her limits.
Also, the dynamic between her and Snape as Head of her House is so interesting, given her resemblance to Lilly and the differences between what they were willing to give of themselves.
And the rest of the characters, oh mother! Everyone is well-developed, and I mean 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚! We also get a whole set of new, original characters that just take the cake, that I won’t even mention the name of so not to spoil any of the fun of discovering them for yourselves.
Our well-known DA gang is also very present and takes main stage more in the second half of the book, where everybody shines, by which I mean has a role and an arc. The Weasleys, by the way, are my favourite family in the world and I wish to be adopted by them (and they should hurry too, before I turn of legal age and lose my chance). The moments Annerb depicts in their family are both angsty and then so warm and hopeful. There will be many moments in which you will wish to be able to hug Ginny and tell her everything is fine, and you will suddenly wake up in your bedroom, or kitchen, or office, or wherever you’ve chosen to experience this.
And now, the Ginny and Harry relationship. To which I say, be 𝙥𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩. This is very much the journey of a young girl into a woman/soldier during one of the biggest wizarding wars. Her and Harry start off more like pillars for each other at some of their lowest points, never quite being friends, and always hoping for more.
But the payoff is unmeasurable, fantastic, incredible in the Armistice trilogy, which, I assure you, you will 𝑫 𝑬 𝑽 𝑶 𝑼 𝑹!
The Armistice series also expands so much on the world of the series and the magic system, and also has a bit of a mystery regarding a room in the Ministery of Magic every fan is well aware of.
There are so many more things to say about these works, but every reader should go in, I think, with a healthy dose of mystery. Thank you to the writer, Annerb, for the clear effort put in these works and I can’t wait to read more from them!
this one is definitely worth checking out if you are a part of potter fandom. a great take on the canon story and if you are looking for badass female protagonist, you are in for a treat.
strong female characters, representation, and perspectives. this one makes you think, while keeping you on edge. i enjoyed it so much that i have read it several times already and I would still read it all over again.
This is a reread. I liked it almost as much as the first time I read it and still stayed up way too late to read it last week. There are some places where ideas got shoehorned in, but overall I really like the more complex portrayal of Ginny, Slytherin, and Snape. The chapters matching Order of the Phoenix, Half Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows are especially good.
This was a wonderful introduction to Hinny as a ship. It was also a must read for any Slytherin too. Seeing Ginny as a Slytherin was so refreshing. The Parlour girls were wonderful and just everything about this made it a great read. Wonderful. 8/10

one of my favorite fan fictions ever. this revolves around Ginny as a slytherin but there's also a glimpse of how Neville was handling things in Hogwarts when the trio was looking for Horcruxes. this was super badass <3 it was also not corny or cliche at all
This one was a page turner for me. I'm not sure if I felt that all the threads really came together at the end, but I really enjoyed the study of Slytherin and of Ginny's character.
"She'll teach them what it really means to be a Slytherin - choice and ambition and cunning and all the murky shades of grey. Subtle. Useful. Unexpected.
But just a house."

Great perspective, excellent writing. Change of pace from the usual fanfics I read. Reminded me of the purpose of them. I love a morally grey Ginny. Not enough Hinny though. (4.25)
I enjoyed the idea behind this and I liked the way it moved through the years. It was faithful to the source material while still adding its own unique elements
Have to given credit to Annerb for such a well-written fanfic, even if the material was a bit darker than I usually prefer. Usually with fanfics there is a trade-off: you get a free book that expands on a world you already know and love (and maybe aren't content to leave even if the original author is finished), but in exchange what you read has spellings errors, sections that need to be edited or the plot meanders. Not so with this work. Annerb rarely spends longer than necessary on any event and I can't think of any sections that were difficult to read. An excellent exploration of each year at Hogwarts from Ginny's perspective, should she have been sorted into Slytherin. While the first years are rather short, each one progressively gets more and more detailed and you get more invested. Obviously, this is not canon-compliant (as JK Rowling's Ginny went to Gryffindor), but there are enough similarities between Ginny's that you feel like they could be the same person but in different scenarios.
As mentioned above, as this book progresses it gets darker. I understand why - realistically Ginny's 6th year would have been horrible and while it's glossed over in the original series, here it goes into gritty detail that can be uncomfortable to read. I would not recommend this for younger audiences for that reason, even if it never gets too graphic. If I had any other complaint it might just be that sometimes Ginny seems just a little too calculating. While Annerb does a good job explaining why she acts this way (the Chamber of Secrets leaving some major PTSD, being sorted in Slytherin being isolating, etc.) sometimes it still feels like looking in the mind of a 30-year-old, not a teenager. However, this doesn't really take away from the book as much as make it clear that it's not JK Rowling's children's series.
This book is entirely from Ginny's perspective, and while I originally found it recommended as a Harry/Ginny fanfic, it's more of an introduction to her character and sets up Annerb's Armistice series, which goes much deeper into their relationship after the war.
