Kidnapped then released deep in the woods, Brandi is on a harrowing run for her life, hunted by beasts straight out of a horror movie. But there’s an even bigger, more vicious creature in the woods—the deadly werewolf who saves her life. Jason is much more than a man, dangerous and intimidating, and Brandi still finds herself wanting every unbelievably sexy inch of him.
When he investigates the desperate screams near his secluded cabin, Jason’s shocked to find his own kind hunting a human—but he ends up even more stunned when he accidentally triggers a mating heat in the beautifully lush woman he saved. Overwhelmed with lust, Jason takes her, bites her, binds her to him forever…
I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.
No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.
I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.
So, one day, when ACTUALLY checking my GR facebook account for once - I am a very, very bad facebook friend FYI...I am one of those people that only logs in once every two weeks, comment/like-bombs the crap out of all your shit and then *poof* I'm gone for another month...whoops, tangent.
*Re-focsued*
Anyway, I randomly - and fatefully, I might add- hopped on FB one day and stumbled across a post announcing the "coming soon" debut of a collaborative PNR series by Kele Moon AND Laurann Dohner.
Being the epic badass that I am...I, of course, reacted with the nonchalant, blasé "oh, that's nice" attitude that appropriately accompanies my self -aggrandized station of abject awesome.
Cue snobby polo match golf clap.
LOLZ.
Just kidding.
I acted like the person I actually am...
...and commenced fangirling like Philip Rivers on a football field.
Before gushing to Lady Moon about how ermagherd excited I was.
I have read 34 Laurann Dohner books...and Kele Moon's Battered Hearts Series is one of my all time favorite sports series EVER.
Simply put: I love both of these authors' shit and I was pretty excited at the prospect of double the awesome.
But then I was nervous.
*foreboding background music*
Because - inevitably - when we get our hopes raised oh so very high...
...it seems like we are - inevitably -met with a deflating Barney and the ensuing and spectator-crushing disappointing.
Thankfully, such was not the case here.
A light and fun PNR shifter read, this book was rife with the insta-mate love attraction, sizzle and angst-free simplicity I have come to love and expect from Laurann Dohner.
I could sense traces of Moon's writing voice here and there...but I definitely could have gone for more of her voice. MORE of her amazing talent at evoking serious emotion and creating true character depth.
I imagine it's probably hard to take two distinct writing styles and minds and meld them into one single manuscript where both of those voices are represented equally.
Please note that this is NOT a diss against the book or either of the authors.
Quite the contrary, I truly enjoyed this book and I really enjoy Laurann Dohner's writing and stories...
But, I LOVE Kele Moon and wanted MORE Kele Moon here.
And more book, period. It felt a little short and definitely had the potential for more.
So if the next book has more...well, more book AND more Kele Moon?
Brandi has a crash course on Werewolves after she gets kidnapped at a gas station by some strange men and then she is left at the woods to run while a few big wolves are chasing her. The ignorant woman has to survive and to learn a lot of basic facts in a very short time.
Jason will run for her rescue. Brandi would have been forever grateful, if she was absolutely sure what Jason is exactly. Because if she isn’t drugged, she is almost positive that Jason is big, black, hairy and has a tail. And this fact somehow scares her.
Well, a few lessons will be taught to her by Jason: Howling, biting and mating.
Although she is a city girl, she will gladly embrace her new life.
Laurann Dohner and Kele Moon are in my auto buy group. I don’t really care if they write paranormal or contemporary romance books. I just go along for the ride…
This is an honest book. It delivers exactly what it has promised. Howls are tearing through the night and a new werewolves’ world is described. A few more details about it are needed in the next books.
I did enjoy this book, and although it was quite short it packed quite a punch when it comes to the erotica part of it. Now back to the bit about it being a short book, it really is a novella size read and that's probably why I gave it a 3 star rating. So much happened over an extremely short period (a few days) the characters relationship progressed so quickly that at times I felt a bit disconnected.
“If I was your mate, I’d savor you. I’d taste you every day. I’d fuck you so often you’d never stop feeling me.”
The story starts of with Brandi being kidnapped by a group of rogue wolfshifters while pumping gas, she's then taken to a different location where she finds out that she is the prize for the hunt that's about to begin. Lucky for her, Jason a much stronger and more civilized shifter comes to her rescue. The attraction is instantaneous and Brandi and Jason don't even attempt to fight it. When Jason accidently causes Brandi to go into a heat the attraction grows even stronger.
I think my main issue with this book was how easily the heroine just accepted everything, I mean I've read some insta-love but when it happens under such extenuating circumstances (ie. heroine was almost ripped to shreds by rogue shifters) I always find myself resistant and wary of the couples relationship. Another problem was that Jason supposedly despised humans because of his past but it was never a factor when he realised his attraction to Brandi. There was practically zero conflict which makes for a very bland read. What saved this book were the absolutely sizzling sex scenes there were pretty hot and if you're looking for a hot short read then this would work perfectly. But for me that was looking for a bit more detail like character development and maybe some world building since this is PNR, I was somewhat dissappointed. The story has a very neat and tidy ending but again it was just very bland aside from the really hot sex.
This book sounded much better to me than it actually was. I'm not really feeling the whole Wolf with a bigger girl vibe right now. Seriously just too boring. She was married before also to an ass who wanted her to lose weight. Ahhhh just not feeling it. Another insecure "overweight" curvy woman just not for me. I don't mind the curvy heroine but I am sooo tired of their insecurities. You got curves, Own your curves!
It took me so freaking long to find out about this story but I'm glad I read it. It's been quite awhile since I've read one of Laurann's books and I have the feeling that this one is a bit similar to her New Species series. Both have strong men that would do anything to protect their women. But sadly this story is not as good as the other series. I always hope for the author to find her spark again but so far I haven't read any of her books that would make me feel the same excitement and interest as the first few New Species books. I know that beside Laurann's books, I've also read one of Kele's books and I loved it. I think we could see both their writing styles in this story and that made the book that more interesting to read.
There were some really cute scenes that I loved but also some great, more serious scenes. I liked the characters and I wonder whos book will be next. The only thing that did bother me at times were scenes where I felt that Brandi was treated quite poorly. I didn't like how some pack mates treated her after what she's been through. I mean, she was almost killed in a gruosome and traumatic way and then they even joke about it. That's just tasteless and completely unnecessary to be put into the story. So that definitely bothered me. I also wished we'd get a full sized novel, with more background from the characters and the whole world they live in. Just more details and depth. But other than that I enjoyed the story. Since this is a quick read, it's not so dark and heavy. It's more fun and easy going. Just a great PNR read.
Claimed, Nightwind Pack Book 1, the first book in a sexy new paranormal series I'm writing with Laurann Dohner is coming to an e-reader near you on Nov. 15th!!!
Did I enjoyed reading it? I guess. Lol I still think her NS series a lot better than the rest of her books and maybe I'm expecting too much but I do LOVE those series. The heroine is not a virgin, she was married before and like always in (books) her husband cheated on her. The hero thought he found his one in a wolf female but she couldn't handled his life or his job (he's one of the enforcers of the pack). But you can tell the heroine is his one true mate, he was very protective and possessive of her.
There's 2 alphas in this series don't know if I'm reading these co-alphas books since I still don't know how the two alphas works it wasn't explained how they became alphas I hope it's not a weird ménage sh*t around when their books comes out.
I dove in head first and was so very glad that I did. I have been looking for a good shifter story and this fit the bill!
Jason was a rough, tough, sexy enforcer for his pack. He wasn't crazy about humans but could not resist Brandi when he rescued her from a vicious attack. He was so devoted and protective of her, just like a good hero should be. He was willing to do whatever Brandi wanted to make her happy.
Brandi was a fantastic heroine. She was funny and feisty. Even after her attack, she showed how brave and strong she was. Definitely worthy of mating with a wolf shifter. She was having a horrific day when Jason saved her from being hunted and killed by an enemy pack. That alone should have made her weary of Jason, but she wasn't. She took his news pretty well. I like when a heroine doesn't put up too much of a fuss when finding out their guy is only half human.
-no cheating whatsoever - they were each 100% devoted to each other -om/ow info -no pushing away - Brandi took the news of Jason being a shifter relatively well -although the first chapter or so is pretty intense, there is no sexual abuse. She is kidnapped and running for her life and in those events got roughed up. -steamy sex scenes -great secondary characters -unfortunately, there was no epilogue at all (which knocked a star off) I understand that this is the first book of the series, but I need more.
I thought this was a great start to the series. There were some great characters that could potentially be future stories. Two of which were pining for ex's (one dead mate and one mate who left) that can be tricky. Hopefully, if they are the future heroes, we don't feel like the heroine is second best. I also hope we don't have to wait long for the next book!
Well, it's very unusual for me to read shifter books, I have only read a handful in my lifetime, and considering I have read thousands of books in my forty years, that's saying something.
Kele Moon is seriously in my top 3 author list, I love her writing, and she is the sweetest woman to ever exist on the internet. I have never read any of Laurann Dohner's work, but since they are besties, I trusted that this would be a decent read.
Claimed was a quick, steamy, and very gripping read, and it's safe to say I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, and can't wait to read more as the series unfolds.
Claimed a stand-alone paranormal romance, told from dual POV and the start of an ongoing series following other pack members
Ok, quick review. Was this the best writing ever? No Was this a great plot? *giggles* No Were the characters well developed and complexed? Umm...No Did I love this story? Hecks YES I Loved it!!!
I Love the quirky writing style. I love the cheesy "bow chicka wow wow" plot. I love the simple characters. Jason, our wolf boy is freaking H-O-T HOT! He is sweet and protective and badass. He growls all the time and I loved it. Once he has permission to touch, boy does he touch. He can't control his passion for Brandi and I fell head over hills for him. Bandi was okay. She got on my nerves a bit, but not too bad. I'm definitely in for the next book in the series. I see a possible MM romance brewing or possible MFM. Maybe, maybe not. We'll see.
Happy Reading from your Always and Forever Wolf Girl, Stacie. I really should change my name to that.
I am a massive fan of Laurann Dohner's New Species Series well more like stalker obsessed fan so when I saw this pop up on my feeds I was shocked I had missed it and immediately one clicked it. It sounded right up my alley but I was busy with other things and somehow forgot all about it. So when I sat down and looked through the books on my kindle I figured it was about time I dove into this one.
And I liked it but I didn't love it. I don't know what it was but it was just slightly off somehow or maybe it was me and the fact it wasn't my beloved New Species. But that said I can't wait to see where the series is going to go and I will no doubt be there one clicking the next one as soon as it is released.
Remember when books used to be so good you couldn't put them down and would re-read them because you wanted to be in that world again? This isn't one of those books.
I am so disappointed w/this book. It just is not up to what I expected. The writing was just off... it seems my favorite authors are just churning out book after book with no care for quality. I would be willing to wait for a really well written book. But now, book after book, the writing is just awful. I am very disappointed.
Forgettable. The typical heroine who is "lush and curvy" and thinks she's too fat and of course, the hero and ALL of his pack friends think she's gorgeous.
Hero loses control and bites her and mates her about 2 hours after he meets her in the woods. Of course, she's ok with this because he's just soooooo hot.
And we're told the 2 alphas in the pack are best friends. One alpha lost his human mate, she died. The other alpha had his human mate run from him. I know I won't read that book because you're a wolf, if your mate runs from you then you track her down. You don't wait around like a wimp and whine about it.
This is a quick fun read with a heroine who stands up for herself and sexy nice guy hero who really likes her and is a wolf shifter. There isn't much more going on that that in terms of character development but there is enough here to make it a fun read and the other members of the pack look like good heroes for more books in the series.
Well I must say that I was curious when good friends and awesome writers Laurann Dohner and Kele Moon decided to team up.
This book does not disappoint. It starts off pretty dramatically with Brandi getting kidnapped and chased by some crazy-ass werewolves. Thankfully Jason is there to intervene.
Love the connection between these 2...really sweet and super hot.
The only thing I felt lacking was the "catching of the bad guys" at the end. It was a little too easy and a bit anti-climactic.
Definitely can't wait to read more from these 2 super-stars.
Didn't have the same amount of depth that I'm used to in a Lauren Dohner/Kele Moon book, but the originality of the plot made up for it. Not your standard shifter book for sure. I definitely found a new series to look forward too!
This book made me laugh! Definitely interested in the series. I don't have much to say so my review is going be crazy short.
Brandi was awesome and was perfect for Jason even with all his craziness. Loved them as a couple. Side characters were entertaining and definitely kept you wanting more.
I was in the mood for a shifter book sooooo I decided to pick this one. This was just okaaaay for me. I did enjoy it but something is missing for me. *shrugged*
Such a fantastic, quick shifter read. Sometimes you're just in the mood for a low angst instalove and this certainly fit the bill. Fast paced and super smexy - I love human/shifter romances and it was exactly what I was looking for!
This was a story written by two authors. Laurann Dohner and Kele Moon. I've read several of Laurann's books, but I haven't read any of Kele Moon, but I definitely think they did a great job. I will always admire authors who choose to write together. That can't be the easiest thing to do.
I really liked this book, but it didn't feel like something new. Instead, it felt like I've read it before. The characters were great and funny, but unfortunately, their jokes felt old. Overall, this was an entertaining book I highly recommend for someone who's looking for an uncomplicated story. I also look forward to the next book, but the best part must have been the word "broccoli" that appeared all of a sudden. Makes me wonder what happened there. :)
Short, steamy, entertaining read - I enjoyed both the brief world and mythology building and the fun and easy characters. "Claimed" will not win any originality awards, but it was a lovely afternoon distraction! I'm looking forward to the next one! Recommend!
This was a hot read. Tons of chemistry between Brandi and Jason. With Jason being one of the strongest fighting werewolves, I wanted to see him be a bit more dominant with Brandi. He was too careful with her, but he was also very protective and clingy, which I like.
I haven’t read a paranormal romance in quite a while, but this synopsis sounded like something I would like. This story started off with a bang and I enjoyed reading it.
Brandi and Jason were just a good couple together! The chemistry was there right off the bat and the scenes between them were really good. What lowered my rating was when everything hit the fan. I was okay with how everything ended, I just wish it didn’t take so long to solve the drama with the other pack.
Overall, I liked it! I’ve never read books by Laurann Dohner or Kele Moon before, but I will be looking into more from them!
