“As brightest day does turn to night, so love to hate can spin.” Buddy read with Nancy :)
Lord give me the strength to go forth with this series, for I need all the help I can get.
Do you ever have a problem writing reviews for each book in a long series? I feel like I should just copy and paste the same review on each of these books instead of trying to spin the same words over and over again but into different sentences. Because really they are all about the same just slightly better or worse than the last. So here I am again... repeating myself.
Rebel, Pawn, King was pretty disappointing, to say the least! It was just more of the same. Throughout 4 books now if it's not Prince Thanos its Ceres and if it's not one of the two then it's Ceres brother Sartes being captured and escaping but truthfully it's usually all three! The best way to describe this series so far it's one big game of cat and mouse; captured, escape, captured, escape and on and on it goes. Plus its epic battle after epic battle after yet another epic battle. I'm having a hard time believing that ANYONE would still be alive. Seriously how is EVERYONE on both sides not dead? Also, after all the slaughtering and burning of villages that Prince Lucious has done I don't know how there are even peasants left for the Empire to lord over! Another thing that is a constant is the fact that EVERYONE is ALWAYS fighting to stay alive. It's like they're stuck on a loop and it's utterly irritating, unbelievable and it's getting tiring.
I can't believe I'm saying this but seeing as how I do have all of the books I might as well keep going plus it's not like any of these books are over 200 pages, therefore, they fly by so quickly. Moving right on to the next book Soldier, Brother, Sorcerer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So I’m shook but I’ll live. Honestly, this series went from junk food to a tasty snack so insidiously that I’m left here reeling. Besides some repetitive set pieces and the usual level of iffy editing, this was kind of amazing.
The characters really shone in this. Like, even the ones who were high-key caricatures before were actually solidly built, layered individuals. THE KING!!!!!!!! Lucious!! Stephania’s continued character arc (sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse)!! And the new character Felene was honestly an icon. She could stab me and I’d thank her for it.
To use the favorite word of the annoying kid in my 4th grade class: I’m flabbergasted. This is only book 4 out of 8. What insanity awaits me? Whatever it is, I’m ready.
Seriously, this roller-coaster ride is something else...I can't put this series down!!! I mean, I have to at the moment, because Hoopla is stingy with its borrows but anyway...Such great characters, and storylines...And Here I almost gave up on Morgan Rice!
The first book had some major issue of rushing things into a short quite unrealistic period. The following books improved both with their pace as well as laying more setbacks along the protagonists paths. Nonetheless it had reached a situation where bad timing reached such a peak where almost everything that can go wrong due to a few minutes lost or the lack of rumors about new events fail to reach each other that it starts to be exhausting. I would like to see more characters development as mot characters continue to act the same except for short periods of confusion, which slip over outside of the pages..
Every hero in this series is fighting for their life. All. The. Time. At every single moment in the series. The stakes are set high, for an epic battle, then another higher-stakes epic battle, then another higher-stakes epic battle... and so on. This was a nice page-turner for the first book or two, but now after 4 books... it's a little tough to keep that pace going. I'm having trouble believing that, after all the previous battles, there are still people alive in the armies on both sides. Plus, the novels are pretty slim, so they go by quickly, and then I have to buy another, and another...
It's still entertaining to read, but for now I'm taking a little break. ;)
Things get darker and a lot more worrisome for our favorite characters. There is so much death and so much danger and no character is safe. The story covers a lot of heroism and sacrifice, two noble concepts that help to make it bearable to read all of the destruction and viciousness. I'm dying to see Stephania get her comeuppance and it is absolutely astounding how she is able to wriggle her way out of problems. Sometimes I am even persuaded to feel compassion for her and then she does another unforgivable thing and I remember why she is the ever-loving worst. I am deeply invested in this story line and I believe the writing improves as the story progresses. There always seems to be another trial and another miracle and the story marches on at a fast clip, keeping me entertained and on my toes.
I'm so fed up with Thanos. I'm about to finish the book, the king is dying and Thanos found him. I can already see him being seen as the king-killer. How more stupid can this author make him be? First Stephania, which made me mad at each of their scenes together, at each time Thanos contemplated her as his wife, when he thought of going back for her, and now this. I love Ceres. This book would be so much better with only her as lead character. I liked the first book better, with mostly her POV. Thanos is too stupid to continue alive. Also, there have been no interactions between Thanos and Ceres since book 1. I can't see them as a couple anymore, and I wish Ceres would forget about him. He has only caused her grief. I hope now that she knows about him and Stephania, she will let him go.

I continue to enjoy this series - I do think the one thing with Morgan's series is they tend to take too many turns that lead to a little wandering in the story line. If they were shortened with the plot it would lead to even a better read. That said I am waiting for the next book.
No man I can't bother with the ring marrow. Around and around in circles Ceres escape she got captured. Her brother was captured escaped, captured and on and on same with with Thanos.
Everything thing they do irrationally without thinking. Going through the gate without a signal planned by the rebels that cause so many of Lord West men and himself to die and get torture.
The mount of people died in the series so far I am shocked that any citizens of Delos is left to be ruled after the wake of Lucious' cruelty and tyranny.
But this is starting to be too far drawn out. I finished this book in a Couple of hours because I skimmed trying to find out the important information. It was disappointing to get to the end only to be left hanging once again and have to wait what...another year to find the next course of action. By then I will have forgotten most of the series.
Starting to believe that the author wants us to suffer with the characters, need more story in the book, not sure if it's a too many central characters or not enough pages issue...
This is the fourth book in a series of eight, and as I began this fourth book, I recognized the same pattern that had begun in the first book. Either Ceres or Thanos is caught imprisoned and tortured, or we have Lucius who is loving going around killing people for no reason at all,. Frankly, I liked the idea of the story as it began but it has become nothing but death and gore and torture, and I don’t really enjoy reading those kind of things. It’s really unfortunate because the first book really was interesting with the plot of a young woman who discovers powers that she didn’t know she had and rises from slavery to begin a rebellion that overthrows the leaders of a country who don’t care anything about the people of they are governing. It could’ve been handled much differently and without thr repeating cycle of blood-beating-torture, etc., Start the next book with the same rinse and repeat cycle. I am really disappointed in this author who I have read other series from that I enjoyed very much.
This is the wonderful fourth installment in the Of Crowns and Glory series. There is never a shortage of action, and more twists and turns than you can count. How can it possibly take this long for things to come together?? I can't believe there are still so many books left in the series! I want Ceres and Thanos to end up together, and can hardly wait to read the rest of the series to see what else Morgan Rice throws in their way. My only (very small) "complaint" would be that there may be one or two points of view too many...but maybe that was just because I was always anxious to get back to someone else's story :)
All in all, this a a great, well-written novel and a welcome addition to the series. If you are already reading the series, I don't have to tell you to read this one...and all the rest of them. If you haven't read these yet, then you should!! It has strong women, action, sword fighting, magic, rebellion, kings, and so much more! I highly recommend.
This tale is filled with action and adventure, so I feel extremely lucky to have been given a copy. Even though it was a gift, I always give an honest review.
Ceres is a strong female lead, filled with energy and honour, and she now knows her origins. Her brother is equally honorable and brave - a likeable character. Although, Thanos is a warrior, he does seem weak at times. Lucious is awful with not one positive characteristic. Mixed the other characters, this cast is brilliant for this fantasy story.
Overall, it is a little short, but packed with action, and because of its easy-to-read style of writing, imaginative scenarios and magical influence, it makes for a compelling read.
So it's about time Thanos dude!! So back to my complaint a while ago about the different points of view. Because there is so many of them it makes the book longer and it can be hard to keep up with them. It can also feel like it is dragging the book along with information that isn't necessary. We also got to see how far Lucious was really willing to go to get his throne. Crazy man! The storyline is progressing nicely now and so are the characters. The books are getting much better as they go.

These stories with Ceres, Thanos, Sartes and of course Stephania and Lucious are never dull. I was truly entertained yet again. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in Felldust and what will become of Thanos. Since both Lucious and Stephania are going to on their journey I wonder if they will meet up. I’m glad Ceres got the help she needed from the warriors of Haylon and from Lord West men as well as the rebels. It was a great battle. It was sad what happened with the king but I’m more concerned who will rule since it ended in such a disaster for the kingdom.
Someone once wrote in a review that Morgan Rice likes for her readers to suffer as much as her characters and I found this true with this book. The frenzied plot changes of the earlier books returned with the intrusion of main character plot lines draining my patience as I waited to find out the fate of others.
It disappoints me when Morgan writes a character but then has them perform actions that are not true to their actions. This book disappointed me on a whole for the reasons I mentioned above but Morgan is a good storyteller so I am here for the ride.
I really do love Morgan Rice’s novels. Thanos is forever an idiot and naive fool, Ceres is a naive powerhouse, Seraphina always deserves to be thrown off a giant cliff in slow- motion, the psychopathic heir deserves a painful and drawn out end, Rice killed one of my favorite characters. So much goes on yet, it’s put together so well you can’t put the series down until it’s read. 10/10. Even in Thanos is a moron.
I am unable to believe that I have finished this book suddenly! . Stories continue to be engrossing. A page turner. The characters stay true as the stories evolve. I still want Lucious to get his due. I know good overcomes evil but the suspense is getting to me! Really a great read one becomes engrossed quickly!
Wow this book keeps you on edge. So much goes on and it all makes you want to read the next book. Ceres is an inspiration, because she fights for what's right. There's been a few times where I've wanted to jump in the book and smack some sense into some of the characters. I'm excited to see how the next book is.
I have to say this book took darker turns than I expected. It was nice to kind of break the regular cycle of this series. I didn’t see a few of the things coming in this one. I just know this is not a world I would want to live in. Fighting all the time for everything seems exhausting. We aren’t seeing really any respite for the characters. Well. Unless they get offed.
