Book II, ELOAH: NO HELL by Lex Allen opens with the threat of nuclear war and the world in turmoil as much over the arrival of Eloah and the things he has done so far, as the looming possibility of World War III. Well-written, action-packed and fast-paced, this book kept me enthralled page after page.

The plot continues to be superb and certainly will most readers to at least consider the possibilities, regardless of their religious persuasion, or lack of it. Likewise, the characters are each excellent, realistic and easy to care about…or in certain cases, dislike.

I prefer not to give spoilers, so I will just say that I feel this book is even better than book one and well-worth the read. I highly recommend ELOAH: NO HELL Book II.

Eloah, No Hell picks up seamlessly where book one left off. The plot thickens, with shady additions, bloody subtractions, and even an awkward yet humorous swapping of characters. I’m absolutely loving the history and geography of this adventure—and oh the things that happen eight miles above the middle of the ocean. HAHA. I’ve grown quite fond of the characters, even the despicable ones. I can definitely see where the comparisons to Dan Brown are coming from, but those aren’t the aspects that impress me. I continue to be impressed by the depths of the lore. Very few stories pull at my thoughts when I’m away from the story. My mind now has another interesting place to wander just before sleep. Now, on to book three.

Eloah: No Hell by Lex Allen is the second installment in his Eloah trilogy that brings us the idea that Jesus was not the Son of God at all, but just another human visitor from a technologically advanced parallel Universe. When Eloah first trod the earth 2,000 years ago, his teachings of "The Way" could be written down on a single parchment document. In fact, it was a magician, Simon Magus who founded the Church in Rome and began the 2,000 years of lies and deceit that followed. Eloah, has now returned to our Universe to try to correct the wrongs perpetrated by two millennia of deceit and to halt the almost inevitable march toward nuclear annihilation that humanity seems set on. With his modern day disciples and his magical, mystical, powers (advanced technology) Eloah will try to convince the Pope, and World Leaders that the whole basis of their religion is a fraud. Not only are earthly powers forming against Eloah, but so are numerous other visitors from alternate Universes, who see Eloah as a threat to their perfect lives on Earth.

The second installment in this trilogy did not disappoint in any way. I love a good, biblical-based story, as much as the next man (having written three of my own) and Eloah: No Hell continued to expand on the twists and turns taken in the first book. The writing is fast-paced and at times almost breathlessly so, but there is still time for Allen to develop his characters. Some of the more minor players look to have the ability to play a big role in the third and final installment and I look forward to seeing the author develop these more in Book 3. Not being a biblical scholar myself, but still well versed in the basic biblical stories and a history buff, I found Allen's grasp of both the region and the Church, in particular, to be excellent. He has done his research well in my opinion.

Eloah: No Hell does what many second books in a trilogy fail to do - it moves the story forward and sets up for a fantastic finale, which I am sure will come in Eloah: No Religion. I can't wait to get my teeth into that. Good job Mr Allen.

The first book in Lex Allen's "Eloah" series ("Eloah: No Heaven") ends with a major character telling another that they are going on a treasure hunt. And what a treasure hunt it is! Along the way, clues are unraveled, history is reviewed, and new villains slouch into the light from their shadowy haunts as they position themselves for confrontation. On the journey we meet Neo Druids, a stupendously powerful opposing force at Stonehenge, and attend a meeting of a group much like the fabled (or are they?) Illuminati, but even more manipulative and significantly crueler.

This penultimate volume answers many questions the reader will have been left with after the conclusion of the first book. It also brings a global--and nearly certainly a much wider--confrontation nearer and more into focus as the players maneuver from the ends of their opening gambits through the middle-game and into the beginnings of the end-game. And now we have a new player, albeit a tacit one for now, but a major one: Simon Magus whom Jesus (now called Eloah) claims was the true presenter of his philosophy and whose work the church suppressed.

By the end of this volume which is even more fast-paced than the very brisk first one, the Pope is about to make the most important announcement any pope has ever made, the Mideast is poised to explode, and several more enemies have surfaced, some with more powers than Eloah. Considering that this volume tees up the next one so successfully while standing on its own when it can, it escapes most of the stigma of being a "bridge" work and nicely ratchets up the tension while keeping new questions arising. I for one eagerly look forward to the epic conclusions implicitly promised in the third volume: "Eloha: No Religion".

Having read Eloah: No Heaven, I moved quickly onto this second book in the trilogy. It was just as fabulous a read as the first!
