Life is not what it used to be. The goodwill of a stranger is a godsend that must be questioned as a necessary risk. Trust and safety, once taken for granted, are now the barest necessity for survival... Lisa and Krupp had accomplished their mission to stop the horde, but at what cost? Little Rock’s booty was still the objective as multiple truck and tractors headed down the road toward their dangerous goal. The survival of all is at stake as they come up against gangs and stubborn homeowners in their quest for resources... Trying not to let hate and loathing cloud his senses, a rogue hunts down an psychopathic villain through the lifeless streets of downtown Hot Springs. Where did he hide and protect his special things? Was there even a need to know? Curiosity stays his hand as he hunts... Executive power arrives and lays claim to what the people had salvaged together amidst the carnage. Free at last, are they willing to once again bow down to the hypocrisies of the past?
This is the fourth book and conclusion of the Zombie Rush series.
'Zombie Rush 4: Banished from Hell' is fantastic conclusion to this series. We follow Lisa and Krupp as they finally get a handle on the horde - but this is not nearly the end of the battles.... Executive powers come onto the scene and think they have the right to step into power and lead after Lisa (with her supreme intuition and leadership skills) cleaned up a huge amount of the zombie mess and established a well honed refuge for innumerable survivors who were close to death. Listening to how all this conflict pans out was impossible to pause as the storyline went back forth between multiple horrific scenarios taking place concurrently. The remaining survivors are finally buoyed with a new sense of empowerment after experiencing their supreme strength in numbers when banning together and fighting valiantly - not just for themselves - but each other. Narrator Anna Crowe did a fabulous job as the solo voice for books #3 and 4 and I hope to listen to more of her work in the future.
"Zombie Rush 4: Banished from Hell" is filled with many 'firsts': introduction of a new kind of "human/zombie" that is almost impossible to kill; Dean thinks he has finally trapped the psychotic cannibal doctor, but all is not what it seems; Lisa is put on trial for the murder of a fellow policeman; the new president of the United States visits the town and tries to rig the trial in hopes of finding Lisa guilty and executed before leaving; street gangs are killing each other and more intent on protecting their turf than each other; and another strong female character saves Lisa and then comes face-to-face with the psychotic doctor.
Mr. Hansen states that this book completes the series...every question is answered, but the ending leaves itself wide open for continuation. In the afterword, the author mentions that a new series will soon begin with ties to this one - which does make sense.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this series and highly recommend it for those wanting a great story with just normal people coming together and working hard to survive. Great read Mr. Hansen! Kudos!
John Podlaski, author "Cherries - A Vietnam War Novel" and "When Can I Stop Running?"
I really enjoyed reading this series! Well written with amazing characters. I thought this series to be refreshing, with people fighting for each other, for humanity against the zombie apocalypse. Taking back there lives and freedom. I urge you if you love zombie books get this series you can thank me later
I really enjoyed reading the series. You are a great author. I will be reading more of your books in the future. I'm from Arkansas I know all of the places in the book. That made the series so much better. Thank you.
Joseph Hansen has intrigued me with this series. I am pleased with the way he has developed his characters into people that feel real to me. The storyline is terrific and the world he has created will actually cause your blood pressure to go up as you read.
Lt. Lisa Reynolds is once again in the thick of it. There are a couple of threats she will have to face and it all depends on which she is facing at the moment that takes her attention. (Possible Spoilers) First threat she faces is the possiblity of humans exposed to all the spilled Z blood might be trning them into mindless killing and eating machine: RAGERS as the soldiers call them. They know no pain although alive, are extremely hard to bring down and they feel nothing but hunger and will eat anything and everything in their path. Like a mutant tide of locast plague they are coming. Back at camp the army is making a power play attempting to usurp civilian authority. That goes as well as you might expect and Lisa is forced to make a decision that will decide the future of the community and her own. Lisa does what she does best, make choice and stick to it. Her priority is and will always be the welfare of those she has brought under the umbrella of her protection. A side story must also be giving attention: Last book Dean is hot on the trail of the cannibel doctor. Web has the first tendrils of fear running through him as the giant man pursues him through the canyons of the city. After surviving the first wave of Ragers Lisa is arrested and taken back to face murder charges. She knows what she is up against from where there can only be one outcome; The military will not abide her continued survival if they are to take full control so a fair trial is not in the works. But there is more happening around Lisa than she can even imagine as she once again is forced to fight side by side with Tonka as the Ragers attack Hot Sprngs. The ending was satisfying and not rushed as I've seen in other series that just end too abrupt and really leaving an unsatisfied ending. Not so here. Hansen has not only taken care of all the little loose strings and tied them up neatly but has given us more than a hit of what is to come with the final installment of this RUSH series. I can honestly say I was not disappointed. There are very few authors I put everything aside for and Hansen has rapidly become one them. Very few men can write a main woman's character as well as he, giving her the right touch of toughness, after all she is a woman in a man's world doing a man's job, and doing it well. But he also gives some realism to her character as a police officer and a woman that has seen and been through most, facing the jealousy of both men and women. While she has learned to compartmentalize her emotions she no machine. She adapts to the situation around her and does what is necessary even if the outcome is not to everyone's liking, even hers. I don't know what he has in store for Lisa in the future but I can honestly say, it won't be disappointing.
What a rush I think I read this book in record time. The final chapter in the zombie rush series proved to be as exciting and action packed as the previous books in this amazing series. Joseph Hansen has created a new approach with the Zombie Rush series he has combined not only the world apocalypse hordes of zombies and a group of survivors but also a serial killer that makes Hanibal look like a vegetarian. The group dynamic in the survivors is a unique take on the ability of people to come together in order to survive and rebuild what has been lost. A definite must read for anybody who is interested in the genre Thanks again Joseph Hansen
This is a great story a great series of books in fact for anyone who is a fan of the zombie genre or any sort of fan of horror or The Walking Dead. The thing that captivated me about this whole series is it starts unlike other zombie stories it starts the beginning but shows more of a global view I've only read a few that are like that and scope most zombie apocalypse stories focused only on one person this has a lot it's about the rebuilding of society exedra highly recommended
This series has just completely knocked my socks off! From page one to the very last page it keeps twisting and turning til you just give up trying to guess what will happen and gladly ride the wave. I can't say enough how much I value this author, as there really aren't many that I know I will enjoy the re-read as much as I loved it the first time around! Keep pumping those stories out H.j Harry/ Joseph Hansen and I will be a happy woman!
This is one of my most favorite zombie series ever! Very sad to be on the last book. I made it last as long as I could. Maybe one day there will be more about Lisa, Cat, Benson and what becomes of everyone.
