Tis the season to make merry....Miss Georgie Gage had been ill, but she's healthy now, although her her brother is treating her like an invalid. Georgie meets highlander Fergus Haddon, and love is on the cards. This is a really nice story. It was enjoyable to read, and I especially loved Georgie. 4☆

I read this in the anthology A Gentleman For All Seasons. It was the fourth and final read inwhich sweet, matchmaking Georgie Gage, finally gets her story told. So I was already invested in her very likeable character. Enter dour, yet strapping, Highlander Fergus Haddon, with a backstory filled with family angst. While clearly his family clan are supportive, our hero has leftover guilt and remorse he struggles with. Of course, Georgie can fix that up! And it all fell together sweetly like a match made in heaven in this short story under 100 pages.
I am rating this a solid 3.5 stars because I knew so much about our heroine already, thought the author did a good job of keeping her personality (and other secondary characters introduced previously in the anthology) in line, provided a fairly fleshed out hero who could win her heart, and placed hints of humor with everyone and the butler, except her brother Bertie, plotting out their HEA.
And I did like the story, but for me Georgie and Fergus's heat felt more like a comfortable heating pad than a fiery, burning love.
It was almost, meh, IMHO.
Maybe because this was the only story in the anthology that introduced crossover characters from the author's other series, so there was a bit of info dumping to bring the reader up-to-speed on all the relationships, etc. I think what would appeal to fans of the series, of course, but it just wasn't interesting enough for me. It's like so many secondary characters kinda got in the way...I almost even got feed up with Bertie and I loved him in the previous stories. And reading this as a standalone, would anyone even get that Mrs. C. has been clicking her knitting needles for almost a year (that's four seasons people) working on Georgie's trousseau?
I know I am rambling. I just really wanted to love this, not just like it. Sigh. As long as our hero and heroine are happy, so am I.

Fergus is on his way to a house party. Lady Reese, and her daughter and son- in- law are traveling with him. Lady Reese has given herself the task of getting Fergus married to the right woman, or any woman. Fergus has been ill and his uncle has sent him to England from Scotland in order to recover.

They are on the way to visit Bertie and his new wife Eliza, along with Bertie's sister Georgie. Georgie has been ill and her brother is frightened on her behalf. He feels responsible for her well being.

Georgie wants her brother to stop being so protective. She believes she must move to London in order to start living her own life.

When Fergus arrives, he barely speaks. He resents the fact that Lady Reese is interfering in his life. When he meets Georgie, he is simply unable to resist her charm and cheerful nature. They find that they share some qualities as they both are healing from their ailments.

This is a story of caring families who want the very best for loved ones. Being protective is one way to show love and trying to find a perfect spouse is another way to show love. The characters are well done. There is humor as well as a sense of tenderness which shows through.

This is a quick read by Ms Kelly. The novella is part of the Renegade Royals series, but works as a stand alone read. Everyone's history and relationships are all fully explained.

I enjoyed this short read very much.

This is a short historical novella that is overall just a happy read. Ms. Kelley has given the readers only a small sampling of what she is capable of. It is enough to whet the appetite and have you reaching for all of her other historical though. The focus is on the emotional details, which are beautifully described. The hard part is that it is a novella and there are certainly places where she could have gone so much deeper. This is a great quick holiday happy.

Side story of extended family of Alex from the earlier stories. Highlander visits English friends and after breaking down his stoic walls and her overcoming her family’s assumptions of her health, they find their HEA.
Blunt couple and open communication makes for a refreshing story without the fluff and secrets and annoying complications of other stories.
Very readable as a standalone as it has basically nothing to do with the others in the series.

Light but Happy

What can I say? I loved this novella. Georgie was a great foil to Fergus's dour moods. She was quite independent and didn't read as young as written. Strong in spirit and not afraid to do the work to achieve goals. Fergus and his rather paternalistic attitude at times wasn't a turn off because Georgie didn't let him get by with it. It worked.

This was a very ENTERTAINING book. After reading another of Vaneesa's books the characters are familiar and I can't wait for the princess series when I can get them

The Renegade Royals is one of my favorite series, and I am so thankful there is another story set in the same Regency setting. THE SEASON FOR LOVING is heartwarming and truly enchanting. Many of the previous characters are either featured or at least mentioned, and it was great catching up on their latest exploits. Taking place at Christmas added even more reading pleasure, as traditional holiday customs occur and gave the book a joyful feel. Vanessa Kelly has a way of making her characters come alive, and those in the Renegade Royals series are definitely individuals whom I will long remember.

Even though Fergus Haddon loves his Scottish relatives, he is not happy with them for sending him to spend Christmas in England. They believe he needs to enjoy himself because of all he has done as their estate steward, and especially after a very troublesome incident involving his immediate family. While having to leave his beloved country is bad enough, their wish for him to bring back a wife distresses him more. Even if he was looking to marry, which he is not, Fergus would pick a Scottish lass instead of a prim English female.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of parties already lined up for him to meet a potential wife. On the way to the next event, there will be a short break and Fergus will be staying at the home of people who know his traveling companions. There he meets Georgette Gage, a woman who wishes to have more control of her life after still being overprotected because of a recent illness. The two end up talking quite a lot, and Fergus is surprised by how much he likes Georgie’s straightforward manner and fun conversations. Perhaps his forced trip will not turn out to be so terrible after all.

When a story repeatedly makes me laugh, I am always eager to discover what new amusement might be on the next page. In THE SEASON FOR LOVING, there are discussions packed with humor plus some rather comical thoughts. Fergus and Georgie have a sharp wit and do not hold back when talking with each other, thus leading to some clever banter. They are also honest with one another on numerous occasions, opening up and revealing things that they usually keep to themselves. There is a good balance of fun times and sincere feelings, and I was often deeply affected by their every mood.

Georgie is a delight at all times, and Ms. Kelly gave plenty of insight into what would make her future much brighter. I felt for her in how she was restricted by others out of thoughtfulness, as it kept her lively nature from being expressed. When Fergus was previously met, it was not under the best of circumstances, so I am glad he got his own book in order to finally have some happiness in his life. I have a fondness for anything Scottish, and this Highlander certainly had me adoring his intelligence and charm. Vanessa Kelly makes her historical stories extremely believable plus captivating, and THE SEASON FOR LOVING is constantly rewarding.

I love this series and all of its characters. I'm so glad the Fergus Hadden and Georgie Gage get their HEA. Both having suffered long illnesses and overly protective families they are out to prove themselves fit and capable to care for themselves. Ferguson fears his mothers madness has ruined he's chance at a future of a family of his own. He's been sent off with friends for the holidays to England along with Mrs. Reese a friend who has taken Fergus under her wing and bound to find him an English wife. They go to the Gage's for the holidays where he meets Georgie and the dower highlander just might of found the brightness he didn't know he could possibly have.

In THE SEASON FOR LOVING by Vanessa Kelly, Georgie Gage is going mad with boredom after her long illness; she is ready to live again. It’s late November when Highlander Fergus Haddon arrives into town; he is in Hemshawe for a rest. Fergus’ family wants him to marry, but he doesn’t want to, for personal reasons. But Georgie’s sunny disposition is contagious, they make each other happy, and this made the romance so joyful, young and fresh. The main characters are charm personified; exquisite!

I absolutely loved this novella! The characters were great. They could be real people. I liked that the main characters didn't hate each other at the beginning. Those kind of books don't seem real to me. There were also some humorous parts to the story. Vanessa Kelly is one of my favorite authors and this story will make her one of your favorites.

Always Excellent

Vanessa Kelly cannot write a bad story, and this one is right up there with all her others. I have enjoyed these characters in other books and so good to see Fergus again, and his own story! Fun read.
