Bullies. Ghosts. Haunted Houses. The first brush with evil is always the scariest.

Many years before Forever Road, Peri Jean Mace’s ability to see ghosts made her the most unpopular senior at Gaslight City High. But now graduation is right around the corner.

Peri Jean needs to pass her senior project so she can go to prom and graduate. Then she can roar off into the sunset with her wanna-be rockstar boyfriend.

But when senior projects are assigned, Peri Jean draws a local haunted house. Worse, the nastiest bully at Gaslight City High School is put in her group.

Stuck investigating something that defies logical explanation with a bully dogging her every move, Peri Jean is sure she’ll come up with a big, fat zero.

Rear View is a prequel to the Peri Jean Mace Ghost Thriller series. It can be read at any point in the series. If you like your Urban Fantasy complete with freaky ghosts, side-splitting laughs, and a heroine with a heart (and a temper) as big as Texas, you’ll love Rear View.

Download Rear View today and take a trip back to those hallowed high school halls to walk beside the girl who never quite fit in.

Catie Rhodes is the author of the Peri Jean Mace Ghost Thrillers.

She was born and raised behind the pine curtain in East Texas. Her favorite memories of childhood are sitting around listening to her family tell lies.

Some of the tales were spooky. Some had grim endings. Some were sidesplittingly funny. The stories all had one thing in common: each had an element of the mysterious or the unexplained.

Those weird stories molded Catie into a purveyor of her own brand of lies and legends. One day, she found the courage to start writing down her stories. It changed her life forever.

Catie Rhodes lives steps from the Sam Houston National Forest with her long-suffering husband and her armpit terrorist of a little dog.

Well, I read this pretty much through in one sitting. Having read the first five books, I was chomping at the bit to get into this one, and it was a fascinating insight into the past of Peri Jean Mace. The first books give brief details of the ostracising and bullying that was endured by our favourite female character, this book goes into more of the background, and also brings up some interesting information about the coach house too. If you are like me, you will feel infuriated by the treatment that Peri Jean goes through and may not feel that she takes things far enough - it's all down to personal opinion after all...

This was a great read, and it was good to get to know the characters more, and understand how they interacted in their younger years. It was also good to see how Peri Jean dealt with things when she was only vaguely aware of her abilities. I feel that this book would be better placed as book 1.5 rather than book 6, as I didn't enjoy it as much due to her increasing powers making things more entertaining and more complicated, the deeper into the series we get. Having said that, you need this book in your collection.

I love all the Peri Jean Mace books by Catie Rhodes, and this one doesn't disappoint! With the action taking place during Peri Jean's school days, we discover why she gets treated as such a pariah, and why she and Chase split up. We also discover why she had left town at the beginning of the series of books.
The writing is excellent as always, and we get more of an insight into the characters of Peri Jean, Rainey, Chase, Tubby and Felicia, as well as Peri Jean's gran. Having met them all as grown-ups in other books in the series, it was intriguing seeing them during their final year of school - and showed true that most people don't change a huge amount!
I really recommend the whole series of books by Catie Rhodes, of which this book is one. If you haven't read any of the series yet, you could read this book as a first, then go back and read the rest from the beginning if you wanted, but I know that you'll definitely want to read the rest after you've read one!
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

“Rear View”, sixth in the 'Peri Jean Mace' series, is a step back in time to give the details of the events which occurred in the weeks before her Prom night.
Most of it is stuff the reader already knows, but only sketchily.
Just weeks before she is due to graduate from Gaslight City High Peri is skating on very thin ice – one more infraction and she faces expulsion.
Her relationship with Chase has gotten physical and her grandmother ain't at all pleased - she may never make it to her Prom.
As one of her final projects she is assigned to a group researching the mysterious disappearance of a local man from what was once the Mace family mansion.
Those who have read the series will not be surprised to learn that the closet is involved!
It doesn't add much to the story but is a quick read.

Glad i read this after the rest of the series.

I am so glad that I held off reading this until I finished the other books in the series. Rear View cleared up a few things from the other books and brings us back to prom night! I loved getting to hear the whole story behind nasty Falicia and Chase ending up together. I totally wouldn't have held true to a man who did that to me, but I get it.
I was happy with how this series ended. It didn't leave me longing for more, (other than reading this one). I enjoyed every second of the ride I was taken on by each and every book in this awesome series! It's a must read for lovers of the paranormal!

Should now make this book 1

This book is so appreciated to understand the backstory. Now I feel like I should go back and re-read all the other ones so that it will make more sense to me. Now I don't remember what ever happened to Chase. I think he was involved in the treasure issue somewhere and was killed but it was probably brought up in book 1, which I read about 25 books ago. We need a character chart. If I read this one before, I would have appreciated the final scene with all the nasty characters much more.

I really enjoyed this view back in time. I was able to connect so many people and past occurrences from earlier books and get a better understanding of the whole Mace Treasure history. I'm still struggling to like Peri Jean. I don't remember disliking her so much in the first few books. It seems that with the last two books (5 & 6) we've seem more of the negative side of her personality. They are completely understandable especially after seeing how she was treated in high school. It's the ghosty paranormal bits that keep me coming back for more.

I personally don't enjoy the stories about teenagers or the families who don't guard the children from bullies. This did contain a lot of info for the series but being thrown in the middle was a bit off setting. If this was the first book though,I never would have continued the series. I am hesitant to continue the series now but at least I read a few which entertained me. Too bad the author didn't just write with a chapter in the past from time to time rather than the entire story being in the past. Very disappointed.

Half a bullying story, half ghost story, i felt way more emotional toward the bullying story.
The whole time i read the bullying part, i want to slap the hell out of Felicia. What a nasty, disgusting PIG. And to think almost no one stand up against her and just let it go is just unbelievable. UGH.

I like Rainey with her bossy and kick ass attitude. I thought this is what Peri Jean character would be like in the future since she still not strong enough as a main character here.
Pity on Chase's fate here, a kindhearted boy but too focus on music career and have a stall ending.
I curious about Tubby though, i wonder if he would show up in other books.

As a prequel of Peri Jean series, i like that it is not as short as most of prequel.
The writing is good and i like the characters too *sans Felicia*.

I wish this book had been marked as the Prequal to the series upfront. It was strange to read it as book 6 in the series after so much had already happened! I would recommend that readers, of this series start with this book in order to understand the relationships of the characters from the start

Peri Jean Mace is a really well written and consistent character, which is probably why I don't like her some of the time. But her life continues to twist into unexpected but not unpredictable paths. It's a series worth reading.

Peri Jean Mace is a character we can all identify with to some degree. This high school experience helps us understand her background and what makes her tick. I loved it.

I love Peri Jean Mace books! This one is a good one for background. Rear View shows Peri Jean as a teenager in high school. It's the start of a lot of things in her life. The turmoil she has as she is bullied, and her first love with long-time friend Chase. It's something else, seeing her friendship with Rainey begin, and how she knew Felicia and Tubby. Even then, she is seeing ghosts and being ridiculed for it. It made me want to read the other books in the series again, with having even more insight into how she grew up, and what it was like for her in school. This is the type of story that gets you involved, and I almost hate it when the book ends because I am so into the characters and living things right along with Peri Jean. Looking forward to more adventure in future books.

This wasn't as good as the first book, but it left a few questions unanswered that I hope the rest of the books in the series will throw some light on. I really dislike Felicia.

This is a prequel to the other Peri Jean Mace books. It is a great book if you are a fan, as I am, as it sets the scene for all of the others, and helps to explain some of the relationships that are in the following books.

It is a good stand alone story too. Very creepy and scary in parts, but also extremely well written and emotive, you really feel the pain that Peri Jean experiences with the bullying she receives because of her gift.

Loved it!

At first I was a bit down that this story was kind of a prequel, but that soon changed.
I really enjoyed seeing the snippet into Peri's past amdc beimg able to connect the dots to some of the stuff that has been mentioned throughout the series. A fantastic addition.
