Great leadership isn’t about winning. It’s not about pleasing people, and it’s certainly not about titles. Great leadership is about making the contribution only you can make for your family and friends, your community or organization, your country or the world. But having that influence requires us to “grow into-and take ownership of-who we are and what we stand for.” The journey isn’t automatic. Leadership maturity isn’t the natural byproduct of aging. It requires wisdom, courage and effort. Too many people find themselves stuck under the weight of their circumstances, so they don’t realize their potential. Based in decades of research on adult development, The Map explains how we can take control of our growth and accelerate progress in leadership, life, and legacy.
A very interesting and easy read. I got really hung up in the levels in the book and find myself thinking about people in different levels a lot of the time. It's writen very good, so it's easy to understand and read. I enjoyed it very much
This book has really helped me better understand myself; where I have been, where I am now, and where I want to go... both personally and professionally. I highly recommend this one.
The Map lays out our potential for growth and the five levels of "vertical growth" which I consider to be growth of wisdom, growth of spirit and personal growth. As the authors see it, each level of our growth comes with a different lens with which we interpret and make sense of our world. And through this growth and awareness of where one is in their personal growth, the potential for greater human interaction is enhanced.
I enjoyed Keith's differentiation between levels of personal development. I could identify with his theory, and feel compelled to push myself to the next level.
