We're Alive #5

We're Alive: Lockdown

Rate this book
“Life on the inside” takes on a whole new meaning. A riot has broken out at Twin Towers Jail. Simeon, five of his fellow inmates, and the prison guards assigned to them have found themselves trapped in the inescapable confines of T-block during the lockdown. Boundaries of trust are pushed to the limit as the survivors must learn to work together if they have any hope of escaping the horde of infected and the deadly secret that lies within Twin Tower’s walls.

“We’re Alive: Lockdown” serves as both a standalone and continuation of the “We’re Alive: A Story of Survival” series. It answers questions, asks new ones, and keeps the listener guessing right up until the bitter end.

What is “Audio Theater for the Mind”? Think of it a type of show that you can play in your head, guided by the narrative but carried by your imagination. Unlike film or television, an audio drama has the power to strike a deeper emotional connection with the audience..

A story off the beaten of the first four seasons (yet it does tie in) in which prisoners are on 'Lockdown' with no concrete information as to why. The prison staff are as confused as the prisoners as to what is going on. When the implications of the 'lockdown' decision are fully realized an epic fight for survival ensues - with no real defense -they are left with wit and determination as their main weapons. . . Unbelievable.

2.5 stars, rounded up because I have an affinity for this series.

I absolutely loved the original We're Alive audio drama. So I was elated when I found out that there was this side story! I couldn't wait to listen! Well, apparently I could have. This was a let down for me personally. I love the idea of trickling little side stories out, which is sounds like they are planning to do more, but this one just didn't measure up.

They tell the story of prisoners getting out of prison while everything is going crazy on the outside. But that story is just a big introduction to the last 30 minutes where the real story is told. And then it leaves on a sort of cliff hanger that I found annoying.

I still love We're Alive and Wayland does amazing work. The audio here is just as spectacular as in the original. Even though this one fell a little flat for me and my review is mostly complaining, it certainly was still enjoyable. I look forward to the next We're Alive story still.

For those who haven't listened to the "We're Alive: A Story of Survival" Series, go and do so right now. I am extremely jealous that you have the chance to hear that audiodrama for the first time and wish I could again.

Now, "Lockdown" is a great new story with loose ties to the original series. There are some nods and winks for those who listened to "A Story of Survival", but even if you didn't, you'll enjoy this series. As always, the audio quality is top notch and the acting makes you feel like you're right there with the characters. Kc Wayland and his team do a fantastic job creating believable dialogue and the story of our prisoners is no exception. Please listen to this and I eagerly await the next entry, "Goldrush".

I found this story a nice refreshment after the four sequential seasons of "We're Alive". I enjoyed it a lot, especially the somewhat surprising ending. Looking forward to next seasons of "We're Alive".

I flew through all 4 seasons of We're Alive and also Lockdown. I LOVE this series. The production is superb. The characters relatable and I'm itching for MORE! The lockdown is a side story based at the Twin Towers Jail and tells a short story of some of the inmates there and what they went through. I wasn't able to connect with the characters as well as I did the main series but did learn some interesting unknown facts about Ink. and the creatures he created there. I can't wait to see or rather hear what they come up with next. The way Lockdown ends I have a feeling there's alot more to the story to be told and secrets to be revealed. I hope we hear how Mike Pegs and the gang are doing and hope they do a full fledged seasoned series following the next generation with Nicholas at the helm. There's so many directions this world could take us. I look forward to it. I'm actually having We're Alive withdrawals so I hope Wayland puts something out soon lol.

Years ago I listened to the entirety of We're Alive. It was the first audio drama I had ever listened to. I was looking for good podcasts and it came up. I'm a zombie enthusiast and it was award-winning work, even for someone whose not a zombophile. This continued the level of excellence, drama, and deliciously action-packed story that the podcast had. My only, Only, ONLY complaint (if it can even be called that) is that the regular cast members, when doing their section in the beginning, sounded like old friends coming together again. They had lost the vocal inflection that made the series so easy to engage with and fall into. With that said, that didn't extend to the new characters and the tone quickly (within the first 2 minutes) subsided into the dark and serious world I'd come to know and love.

Poor, poor Fredo.

Different in vibe from the 'original' series. It's the same 'universe' but the story is shorter, has (mostly) different characters and is staged (mostly) in a different setting. Reading the reviews on Goodreads it seems this disappointments some. I did enjoy it, though. "We're Alive: Lockdown" is a well told story. And - just like the original series - it is extremely well produced.

(Note: this story has the original series as a backdrop, so you'll enjoy it more when you listened to that first).

This was a different perspective to a fascinating story. You go through the first 4 seasons of we are alive getting to know all the characters, at the end of those seasons the prison comes into play and you're left wondering what happened there. This story goes into that and explores the prison at the beginning of the zombie outbreak. You introduced to a cast of characters and how they escaped, what truly happened there. This was a bit different from the other seasons. You also saw some of Ink and how he began as well. I'm curious to see where Goldrush goes in this series.

I loved this addendum to the We're Alive world. Finding out what happened in the Twin Towers jail is a substory I didn't know I needed to hear. But it was so entertaining and actually pretty important to the main plot with all the revelations about Ink and his special subjects. The cast was amazing, especially Stephen Weber. I really enjoyed listening.

I really enjoyed this one. As with the first season, will we ever find out the How and Why of this apocalypse, or am I the only one?

This is a mini-tale on the background of “The Mallets”, who attacked the Tower. I think? Because I have Goldrush to also read, I’m thinking both will lead right back to Season 2 of the original storyline.

Still deserves 5 stars. I am such a huge fan of this series. I'm spreading the love and recruiting more fans. Together we'll be waiting for K.C. to release another work that'll explain about "The Family". Fingers crossed.

I was hooked on KC Wayland's original podcast audiodrama "We're Alive" and was thrilled when friends told me about this one. I wasn't disappointed. I fell right in to the story and was right back in the zombie apocalypse, worried about what was around the corner and who would survive.

This time we find out what happened at the "Twin Towers" in the first days. A group of inmates are waiting to be transferred out only to be trapped and confused as to what has happened on the outside.

I'm hoping Wayland continues to create and perform more stories like this.
