Wow... Were do I begin, so I had every intention of giving it 2 stars, but since 2 stars says "It was ok", I just can't do it. Since I was able to finish, I'd give it 1.5. Because of all the grammatical errors and that last chapter I just can't even bring myself to say it was ok. There was too much wrong with this book, not just the story. I'm sure there are women that live this type of life and several people that enjoy looking at and reading about this type of drama, hence all the good reviews on Amazon. However, as an avid reader of all types of books, I just can't say that this was a well written book.
Perhaps if the author would have taken more of an effort to focus on fewer story lines and possibly make a sequel or two for the other story lines, this would have made it more enjoyable. I couldn't relate to any of the characters, but I would have liked to at least liked or saw potential in one or two characters. There was no one. I felt Nasha may have been the only one a bit stable, but she didn't developer her character very well and then killed her off in the last chapter. Now why was that just thrown in there? Maybe there will be another book about Nasha and Nitty before this accident which will ruin my predictions that she was the most stable. LOL! Anyway, it will be fun listening to what my fellow book club ladies have to say about this one.

I thought I was going to really get into this book judging from the first chapter or so... but I quickly found myself becoming disinterested and forcing myself to finish. A couple parts here and there caught my attention but not enough for me to feel compelled to finish. I switched to TTS to finish or otherwise I don't think I would have. Maybe if the story would have focused on the relationships of Jewels and her girls it would've been more entertaining. I think the adding of so many characters and the plethora of relationships was just too much. I didn't feel for any of the characters enough to root for them. It was much easier to despise some. Definitely fit the genre but not my cup of tea.
Really fast-moving story so I zoomed right through the book. I liked some of the characters a lot. However, I was distracted by the author's writing style and a fair number of typos. Ending also felt rushed.
I wanted this to be a decent story. I admit this particular area of urban lit is not my favorite however, I am a reader so I can appreciate good story telling. As an aspiring author I am keenly aware of the sheer courage it takes to offer up your work for public consumption. Not to mention the challenges of self publishing, and I wanted to find something likable about this title . But, a bad book is just a bad book. This story could have been good. The exploration of a woman's choice to not only leave an unhealthy relationship, but to shift her sexual preference. This could have been made much more interesting, and informative. Instead what the writer has presented is a cast of one dimensional, unsympathetic, self servers. Even Lashaun though admittedly not as self centered as the main character Jewel is still somewhat challenging to get behind due to mistreatment of the women in her life. More insight into who the characters are and what motivates their decisions could have helped make the characters much more interesting. In addition this book need some basic structural improvements grammar, flow and editing. Would have made reading this book a little easier.

I was kindly invited to join the Mocha Girls Read book club, which picked this for January. This book made Young & the Restless seem downright innocent with all these love triangles.
To the author, I would recommend a good editor. To other readers, brace yourself. I would not have read this book if it wasn't chosen by my book club. I am disappointed in the character development and the narrative pov became annoying.
I'm not sure where to even begin, which I genuinely believe was the author's main problem with this novel. A hard to follow plot, too many characters and bad editing where the main issues, yet I think the true problem was the author tried to combine every novel she's thought of and read into this one book. As an avid urban lit fan, I find the characters to be believable - in the "I can't relate but I'm sure there's people out there living this life" way. Perhaps an outline and some unbiased editors would have helped filter through the inconsistencies, and awkward dialogues that made this book so taxing.
I could've get into the book as much as I'd hope. About a few pages in I was ready to stop reading, but I pushed through. Maybe it was the flow of the plot, but I just couldn't appreciate it as so many have. Certain parts did catch my attention though
This book is poorly written, the characters are undeveloped, and it reads like a white man's attempt at describing black culture. This book is full of stereotypes, and typos. Do yourself a favor and read anything else.
We was introduced to several characters at once, which as a little hard to keep up with. I learned early on that I didnt like Black nor Tank. But overall, this book was a great reminder to get rid of toxic people and behaviors as soon as possible.
