Now that you are a parent, wearing clean underwear when you leave home simply isn't enough. You've planned birthday parties, playdates and education, but have you adequately planned for what would happen if you were in an accident? What would happen in the first 24 hours while the officials locate your family members and arrange for your children's care? Are your plans sufficient to keep your children in the care of people you know and trust during these critical hours? And what about your money and home? Will your legal documents keep your family together or tear them apart?
In an easy-to-read story format, Wear Clean Underwear takes you on a journey to discover in fast, simple-to-understand terms exactly what will happen based on your current plan, and what happens if you don't have a plan. Showing you how to avoid unnecessary taxes and a broken-down court system, the book guides you to transfer your values, love, and support to your children and loved ones with ease.
Very valuable book for understanding families need for estate planning. The book is written in a choose your own adventure style which makes the serious subject matter more light-hearted which was good. I only wish the kind version would have made it easier to jump forward and backward. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to almost anyone with a family. It’s important to know what is needed to ensure your family is taken care of in the small likelihood of you dying.
should be required reading for parents with minor children
Very informative and complete primer on effects of decisions or lack thereof regarding planning for legal issues arising from death and or incapacity of parents of minor children.
I read this book because my boss is obsessed with this woman and we have at least 10 copies of it lying around the office.
The book consists of three scenerios in which tragedy strikes a family. It is kind of like those old "Choose Your Own Adventure" books...you get to choose what kind of estate planning documents the parents had created and then see what happens to the children/remaining spouse/extended family/etc as a result. Then you can go back and read the story when they prepared excellent estate planning documents and see how happy everyone is even though their parent(s) are dead. A bit melodramatic, but I suppose it needs to be to get its point across to some people...
Quick easy read and it does pack in a lot of legal advise in layman's terms. Getting your documents in order is really important, especially if you have minor children.
I give Wear Clean Underwear! a five-star because I'm a parent who really put no thought into what could happen to my children if both myself and their father were to die. Not because I didn't love them, I just kept telling myself it would never happen. This book really put my life and the lives of my children into perspective and I realized it could happen and I needed to take action.
Wear Clean Underwear! helped me to know what I needed to do to protect my children; extremely clean reading, straight to the point, and I knew exactly what steps I needed to take without much effort. That is the kind of helpful reading I like - no crap, just to-the-point "get your ass in gear" reading and steps to accomplish.
A must read for any parent to protect their children in the case the parent is no longer around to continue protecting in person.
This is a must-have for any parent. It gives you three different scenarios and explains via examples what the outcome of each is depending on the choices you made eg did you make a common will or did you leave detailed wishes behind etc. It gives a few addresses but they are only valid for US citizens not for Europeans. Nevertheless: food for thought!
