This was a cute story but it just didn't do it for me. It held my attention for the most part, but I never really connected with the characters or the storyline. Part of the problem for me is that the romance centered around the head of a publishing firm and an employee who specializes small print contract writing. Maybe it's just me, but nothing about that scenario strikes me as interesting, let alone sexy. Then again, I never did find the idea of business executives, moguls or the corporate environment particularly sexy. It wouldn't have been so bad if the romance itself as well as the secondary relationships within the story didn't begin and end at their workplace. Which brings me to my next issue...
A major part of the story takes place in an office building. An office building is essentially a housing community for desk jobs. I can't think of a less sexy location than that. If I could be trapped in a snowstorm in any place with the man of my dreams, an office building wouldn't even crack my top 20. Maybe I'm missing something? I close my eyes and try to immerse myself in the sensual trappings of an office building. Things that come to mind are copy machines, instant coffee, cubicles, gossip, staplers, meetings, dry erase boards, paperwork, punching in and out of a timeclock and filing cabinets... Nope. Still not turned on, not even a little.
Libraries are sexy. Libraries, I get. Semi-public sex in the library stacks? Yes, please! Noise regulated sex obscured by endless shelves of books? Oh, hell yes! Totally hot.
Am I wrong?
