Experience a traditional Christmas in the quaint New England town of Snowbound Village. Cozy up to a crackling fire with romance that tops the wish list. Four young women begin the Christmas season in the town of Snowbound Village, Connecticut. Several work at the Village Mall while the others just shop there, but all will visit the Christmas Collectible shop and each will find true love before the season is over.
I bought this because it was written by a Christian author and because it took place in Connecticut, where my husband & I lived for many years. I was very disappointed. The Christian presence in the book is overwhelming & preachy. The stories are cheesy as a result. Sorry! That's my take!
This anthology contains four sweet Christmas novellas. All four are set in Snowbound Village, Connecticut and are connected through the small town shopping mall. Each of the heroines has some kind of Christmas collection that connects them to the hero in the story. Good faith thread through each of the novellas.
Sarah's Prayer by Diane Ashley - Nick has broken off with his girlfriend Delia because he believes God's word that Nick should not be yoked with an unbeliever. Delia collects all things Santa Claus. When Nick sees a figurine of Santa kneeling at the manager, he sees it as a sign that God wants him to bring Delia to Christ. Sweet, complete, and easy to read and an enjoyable Christmas story.
The Cookie Jar by Janet Lee Barton - The stars of this story for me were Jonathan's twins and their Christmas wish for a new mommy. Cindy Morrow runs a bakery called The Cookie Jar and collects cookie jars. It's the twins' favorite snack stop in the mall, and they are praying that Cindy will be their new mommy. Fairly predictable but still a delightful read and my favorite of the four.
Stuck on You by Rhonda Gibson - Sheila collects Foster's Woodland Creatures ornaments and is a children's author. The ornaments have inspired her to write a collection of stories about them. But she can't do this without the creator's permission. Morgan Foster, the designer, will only give permission if he can collaborate. This story had some surprising twists and unexpected turns with an absolutely delightful ending.
Snowbound for Christmas by Gail Sattler - Rochelle collects snowflakes. When the boss's secretary notices them, she asks Rochelle to decorate the building's entire lobby for some clients who may be moving in. Kade, the CEO and building owner, hates snow - real and pretend. As collisions occur over the decorations, Kade learns to deal with the reasons that he hates to see Christmas come each and every year. Sweet and tender with a predictable ending.
Four enjoyable stories that can each be read in one sitting. Great for curling up in front of the fire with a cup of hot chocolate on a cold evening.
A couple decades ago, I used to love these 4 in 1 collections.
I came across this at a thrift store, didn't recall the cover, so thought I'd take a chance and read it.
I now remember why I stopped my novella habit.... Yes, they're clean. Great. But they're incredibly cheesy and simplistic - I much prefer novels that actually develop characters and have believable storylines. I don't want to read a painfully naive romance wrapped around a tract.
Except for the first short story, which I found overly preachy, I was able to overlook the religious references peppered throughout the other three, enough to enjoy a little light romance with a holiday feeling. This is definitely fluff, but worth the read if you're looking to get into the holiday spirit.
A collection of four sweet and fun novellas set in a mall and in a small city in Connecticut. My favorite is Snowbound for Christmas followed by The Cookie Jar.
I have read this one many times. Mostly in winter time to put me in the Christmas mood. Very good book.
(Edit: 12/29/13) I adore these short stories. I try to read it every year around Christmas. I just finished reading it again. I thought it would be appropriate for me to say in this review, these stories are heavily coated with religious aspects. I know some readers don't like to read stories with mentions of Christianity.
With all that said, I still love this book as much as the first time I read it.
This was not my cup of tea. Way to heavy-handed on the religion part, but I know several people who would really appreciate it. I had just been talking to my sister about how much better written Christian fiction has gotten in the last ten or fifteen years. This book set back my theories.
This was a gift from a well meaning bookcrossing friend. The problem is I don't read romance, I hate drivel, and the books are "Christian" . They are also so poorly written, with awful stilted dialogue and improbable scenarios to go with them. yuk yuk yuk!
This was a truly enjoyable book! I usually don't care much for the short stories, but in this book, the 4 stories tie together and take place in the same village, share characters, locations, etc. I enjoyed the Christian aspect of this book - very inspirational! Well done!!
