What happens when a cocky bad boy falls for a good girl?

I'm Connor 'Alpha Male' Anderson. Pound for pound I'm the best MMA fighter in America, and I've got the brains, balls, and brawn to back it up - 230 pounds of pure muscle, infinite charm, and the stamina to last all night long. But with the biggest fight of my career coming up, I've got to keep my pants zipped and get my head in the game.

That's when Frankie Jones comes in. An amazingly hot yoga teacher, she drives me crazy with those booty shorts and sports bras. I'll hold downward dog as long as she wants so I can show her my cobra. She's a total bombshell, feisty, and challenges me every step of the way. She doesn't fall for my alpha game, and that only turns me on more. But how can I get myself into her skin-tight leggings, with the pressure of this title match coming up and my trainer's orders to keep it in my pants?

Before I met Frankie, all I wanted was to win this fight.

But now?

All I want is her.

Opposites attract in this Standalone Romance Novel with an HEA that will knock you out!

Secrets of an Alpha Male is my third book by J.D. Hawkins and I have to say, it is my favorite. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I found Hawkins's writing to be very descriptive, I was able to picture the scenes and feel the emotions of the main characters to the point that I was drawn into the story. I even had attitude changes while I was reading, I felt like I was ready to kick ass one minute and the next chug a kale smoothie.

Connor 'Alpha Male' Anderson is one of the cockiest characters I have read up to date. His shit talking, showboating, and his confident attitude lands him a fight for a title-weight belt, he finds himself having to prove to the other fighters, fans and himself that he is the best MMA fighter in America. Cockiness aside their is something about Conner that has the reader falling for him and cheering him on.

Frankie Jones not only pulls off wearing yoga pants and a sports bra, she is great at what she does as a yoga teacher, the paperwork aspect of her business not so much. I found her attitude to have plenty of patience even though her business is up in the air, her sister is so uptight, a vindictive jealous ex and having Conner's amazing body and sexual presence around her, that would be too much for any free spirited woman to handle.

These two characters mesh perfectly, his temper and strong personality to her laid back knows what she wants persona seems to fit. It doesn't hurt that it seems impossible to keep their clothes on when they are together. I loved everything about this story it was more than sexual references on pages, it is a man realizing that he has to get knocked down a few pegs to actually know what it is to be a real " Alpha Male ". It is also a story of figuring out that pride doesn't always have to get the best of us. Memorable characters, great storyline and perfectly written, I couldn't ask for more from J.D. Hawkins. It's a definite 5 star read!!!

Overall Opinion: This was cute for what it was. I went into it not really expecting much, and I wasn't at all disappointed. It is a pretty light, funny, sexy read. Does it get deep and have much substance? No -- but it was good for a book to read in between those deep or angsty ones.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Frankie and Connor's story. They bump into each other at a smoothie shop, and they are instantly attracted. Connor can't get her out of his head, so he seeks her out at her yoga studio. He ends up taking some classes and finds that what he learns is actually helpful to the mental aspects of being a mma fighter. They dance around each other for a little bit, but eventually get together and fall in love. There is some ex, family, and career drama, some sexy times, and some funny moments...and they get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Frankie and Connor's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, but instalust.

H rating: 4 stars. Connor. I liked him. He was a douche at times and he messed up at one point, but he was a good guy underneath all his show-boating and made up for it in other ways.

h rating: 3.5 stars. Frankie. I liked her. She was a little too proud at times though.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Moderate. They have some good chemistry and scenes, but not so much that it took away from the storyline.

Descriptive sex: Yes

Safe sex: Yes. Condoms are used. I don't remember any mention of STD statuses and/or previous practices.

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Not really

Closure: This had not nearly enough closure. I would call it a HFN ending, as we didn't get any big commitments.

How I got it: I got it with my kindle unlimited subscription.

Safety: I'd say that this should be Safe for most readers.

➳A cocky, arrogant, high-ego, sexy, yummy, bust emotionally lost UFC fighter, searching for his answers and for the person who can help him find those answers...

➳Connor and Frankie are two opposites; emotionally, physically, and mentally. Connor's attitude is over the top from his ego, acting like he is THE everything and that no one can beat him. While Frankie is just an independent yoga instructor who just wants to not have business problems. When they first meet, not a lot of sparks were... well.. sparked... but over time their chemistry did lust. Connor thinks that he doesn't have time to be in a relationship with Frankie, and Frankie cannot have a relationship at the moment because of all her business problems. But Connor takes it the wrong way and his cockiness comes out of the blue... that's something that I did not appreciate it because of the way he yelled at Frankie. As if she was just a piece of meat and he described her absence as something that does not bother him, as he can get any other women who is hotter than her... ten more women who are hotter than her. Honestly, that bothered me a tiny bit and I was going to stop reading the book around 54% of the story line, but I kept reading and Connor admits his mistakes and realizes that Frankie is nothing like the other kind of "pussy" he used to get.

➳With the help from Frankie and her yoga and breathing exercises, Connor was able to be the best UFC fighter he believes he is, and the best boyfriend Frankie would ever have. This was a nice read, one that I was actually much more from but unfortunately did not get it, as I love J. D. Hawkin and his writing.

When struggling yoga teacher Frankie Jones first meets MMA fighter Connor 'Alpha Male' Anderson who is focused on training and fighting for the title she has no clue her life is about to take a drastic turn. The last thing she expects is to fall for a man who makes a living with his fists, but she can’t resist Connor or the tender connection they share.

What follows is a beautiful and erotic love story. The chemistry between them is so potent it fair sizzles off the page. This is a sweet read with no pretense or melodrama.

I like both Frankie and Connor. Frankie, who is good and strong, and still so optimistic even after all her struggle to keep her business going. Connor is big, strong, gruff, tough and cocky. But, underneath, he's a little bit of a softie as well. He is so sweet with her always treating her with respect. The chemistry between these two was incredibly potent. Connor may be easygoing, but in the bedroom he is all Alpha.

I absolutely loved every lusty, sweet, and spicy moment between these two. It was an amazing read with flirty conversations and scorching scenes between the hero and the heroine.

Let me start by saying that I've read pretty much all of J.D. Hawkins books, I stalk him regularly on social media, and I'm a huge fan of his work. This book was a bit different from what I've come to expect from him, but it was enjoyable.

First we meet Connor 'Alpha Male' Anderson, a cocky fighter who has literally been plucked from obscurity and thrust into what is the chance of the lifetime for his career - a chance against the current MMA Champion and to earn the belt. If only his incredible ego would just get out of his way. He meets Frankie, a yoga instructor, and her natural calm goes a long way in teaching Connor some humility, as well as helping him find a balance and to put his life in perspective.

I adored these two characters. Their connection was instantaneous but they both had to put in the work in order to sustain any type of relationship with each other. The biggest sticking point was their pride. Gosh, it was so frustrating. Being able to swallow pride was a huge obstacle for them. However, when they were on, it was so sweet. Connor may have been 'Alpha' but it didn't prevent him from being able to open his heart.

The intimate scenes were hot, as expected. The sparring and fighting played a huge role in the plot and definitely kept me engaged. There was also just enough drama to add some spice and keep things interesting. My only issue was that things needed to be fleshed out more. This was a delightfully light read, but it was vague on some details. I think the drama with Tara was brushed off too easily. And I guess I wanted more from the epilogue as well. I wanted to see more development of Connor and Frankie's relationship. Ah well, that wasn't in the cards. It didn't stop this from being an awesome book by an amazing author!

Another JD Hawkins's book? Another winner! For those who think that a 3 star rating is not good, please look at what it means ;)
Because I did like the book.
I call it a winner because I thoroughly enjoyed Connor& Frankie story. As always JD brings us strong independent and confident characters. You mixed it with fun banter, a little drama and lots of sex appeals and you have Secrets of an Alpha Male.

I'm always excited when it comes to read one of JD's books because I know I'm going to spend a good time and that once I finish I'll have a smile on my face. And it did happen here.

Connor is the usual cocky guy but despite his blunt talks he doesn't really acts on it. It's more for the show than what's underneath. His character was like a double sword, he's impulsive but also attentive; full of himself but a great listener.
Frankie was a smart young lady who needs her business to work. As a yoga teacher, she needs to find her customer base. Meeting a hot MMA fighter and what goes with it was not what she expected.

Both have challenges coming their way. Secret of an Alpha Male was not only about the romance but also about pursuing your dreams no matter the obstacles.
Fans of this author are going to be thrilled. All of what makes him is in his book.

I loved the pace of the book. It felt more real than usual. It wasn't only about the sex. But it's also where my problem is. It was way too short. I needed more of their time where they connect together than just been told. I saw there were good for each other but at the end I'm not too sure they are going to spend their lives together.

Anyway, grab this book because it shows once more how talented JD is and how he gets better and better with each book. Connor &Frankie are sweet and their relation brings out the best in them both.

*ARC received as part of blog tour*

In my head, when I read “alpha male”, especially in my romance reads, I think those are mighty big words. Automatically, I think, “Oh, really! Hmmm, lemme be the judge of that!” Yes, it does invite judgment right away, I’m sorry, but that’s just how my brain goes. It’s like reading the words “bad boy”. For someone who’s had her share of dark romance reads, I have a high threshold for those words… It’s one thing to talk the talk but for me, being “alpha” is more about the actions. You can tell me all you want how alpha you are, but if I’m not buying it, that arrogance and that guardedness to hide your vulnerability just come across as signs of insecurity and immaturity. Just saying …

Now did Connor live up to those words? Hmmm… I dunno. I get that it's what he's called in the octagon. But outside of having that moniker, I dunno... Having said that, it doesn’t mean in no way that Connor is not delish and just as worthy a H. As a fighter, there’s a lot of testosterones floating around, that’s for sure. But putting that aside, Connor is one sweet guy. As the story progressed, I felt he showed growth with his self-awareness. He’s well read, he’s funny, and like I said, he’s quite delish in his own way.

Frankie has the right temperament for Connor. As a yoga instructor, she balances him out quite well. And she’s just as witty as Connor. I didn’t agree with some of her decisions, but it’s what floats her boat.

Seeing this is dual POV, it was nice to read both their thoughts. I wondered though if some of the scenes were better told by the opposite POV. I probably would’ve bought it better. I’m just thinking…

The plot moved along nice and easy. Some of that drama with the people around them probably could’ve been expanded some more, but interestingly enough, as it is, it riled me up enough, so I guess JD can paint his “villains” quite well LOL

Regardless, the chemistry between these 2 was evident. That, JD sold me on, for sure. And at the end, I did like it. I liked Connor and Frankie as a couple. They worked well together. So in the end, I was happy for them, I was happy with the whole thing.

This was my first book of J.D Hawkins .
I totally loved it ! The characters were so awesome .
Frankie - a hot yoga teacher , confident, proud , calm .
Connor - a MMA fighter , absolutely cocky , arrogant , confident, brave , egotistical...

To be honest , at first I hated Connor , he was such an asshole . His cockiness had no limits , believed that he was the best . But that's when Frankie comes in . She shows him how to meditate , how to be more calm , how to put that big ego of his aside , how to breathe before he goes totally crazy .

Butch - his trainer , I love him . He was so angry all the time , only yelled at Connor , but such a wise man .

Matt - his friend , I would love if J.D could make a book for him . He was a fantastic friend , charismatic .
The only character that I hated so muuuch , it was Tara - she was completely a bitch , stalker , crazy ...

Anyway , I love books who talk about fighters , it gives me such an adrenaline rush , this book was one of them .
If you love fighters you should definitely read Connor Anderson here , he is the one for you !

5 High Fives, Fist Knocking Stars!!!

I have finally found the perfect Book Girlfriend,
yes I know this book is about an Alpha Male named
Connor but ,when you meet Frankie you will swoon
for her I promise.

With the research/knowledge on the MMA fighting
world and yoga/meditation, Mr. Hawkins delivers!!

This alpha male and yoga teacher are a perfect match.
Connor "230 pounds of invincible", sexy, smart, funny,
generous and very dedicated to his sport meets Frankie
the free spirit gifted owner of her own yoga studio.
The chemistry between these two is off the charts.
These two both have the "it" factor and I loved
the relationship between these two.

Frankie has to contend with a very uppity
sister and Connor's ex. Ugh I wanted to punch
Tara and slap Jamie. Frankie handles both with
patience and grace. In her thoughts when certain
situations arise she struggles but weighs the
pros and cons and listens to the her own voice
what is the right thing to do.

The sex scenes in this book make you want
seek out the places that are described in this
book. They are written and detailed that you
will want to put the book down for a few seconds
and dream they are happening to you or go
seek out your partner bat your eyelashes and
say "hey can you help a girl out here for a
few minutes?"

The writing is smart, witty, sexy, the
characters are intelligent. You learn
about the fighting world, owning
your own business with all the struggles
that come with it. You learn how to
breath and just accept people to guide
you and help you. We all have flaws and
back stories that may not be pretty but
you either accept them or stay in your
own bubble and not reach forgiveness
or let the past stay in the past.

"How you are the way you are. Proud. Independent.
How you believe in yourself so much. You've never
relied on a man, or anyone else, to validate you."

I feel the spirit that led knights to swear oaths to
their queen, to give their lives so that she would never
lose that grace. For the first time in my life, I don't
just feel the urge to fight, I feel the urge to fight for
something.

I cannot forget about Butch the trainer, loved
him!!! He is described exactly how I would
picture someone in this job description. A
get in your face take no crap from anyone
man.

Matt what a friendship between him and
Connor they just have that testosterone, fist
bump, slap on the back friendship. You know
the one where guys give advise to each other
but never take it, but they have a bond "and
I will look out for you kind of friendship no
matter what you do".

Loved this book in all its Alpha Male glory and
with a awesome yoga instructor who I am claiming
as mine!! The epilogue was perfect and the last
paragraph...awww so sweet.

Life is Art
***authour unkown***
I think everything in life is art. What you do. How you
dress. The way you love someone and how you talk. Your
smile and your personality. What you believe in and
your dreams. The way you drink your coffee, or tea.
How you decorate your home. Your grocery list.
How you WRITING looks and makes you FEEL.

(JD Hawkins writing gives you all the FEELS in this
book)

Author, J. D. Hawkins' Best Book so far!!! No Spoilers Here, just my honest opinion!

This book was an "On the Button" knockout for me. (Look up Joe Rogan if you don't know what I'm talking about.) Growing up myself with a Grandfather and Father who watched boxing religiously, I appreciated this book's "Cage Talk" of this generations UFC style of fighting.

So enough about me remembering old school boxing...let's get to our Main Event!

IN THIS CORNER WE HAVE.....Connor "Alpha Male" Anderson and the sexiest fighter I've read about to date. Connor truly does define what an alpha male is. You might think of arrogance, dark looks, a hard body, and sex on two legs walking as an alpha male, and you'd be right! But, this book delivers a one-two punch to an emotional side of an alpha male that made me love our main character even more.

and IN THE OTHER CORNER WE HAVE...Frankie "the Ambitious Yoga Instructor" Jones! Frankie has had a dream that others have criticized her for, but she remains determined to conquer her dreams her own way! She intelligent, driven, and does "downward dog" like no other. Oh, and of course, she fills out her yoga pants with an ass that even women have to admit they admire.

So can these two win together in the end or will one of them TAP-OUT?

I highly recommend this book if you enjoy sarcastic, hard-hitting, vulnerable, self-centered, sexy, know-what-they-want, sensitive, intelligent, and strong individuals!

The secondary characters were also defined with clarity and intrigued me to learn more about their backgrounds.

Place this one on your TBR and give it a shot!

Hold onto your panties ladies, cause this alpha male will knock you out!

Secrets of an Alpha Male is passionate, electrifying, and sexy AF! From the intense fighting, to the delicious chemistry, everything about it just screams dominance!

Connor "Alpha Male" Anderson is cocky, authoritative, and built like a brick house! He commands attention from everyone, and not just the lusty women in heat. But all it takes is one unexpected encounter with Frankie Jones, and he's a goner. Yoga teacher, compassionate, and soft-hearted, Frankie is everything Connor isn't. With the biggest fights just around the corner, and a failing business in desperate need of help, can these two risk everything on a whirlwind romance?...and will being together only hurt each other in the long run?..

I haven't read many MMA books, but after this one, it tops my very short list! It was the perfect balance of romance and fighting. And good lord!...both aspects were excellent!
I liked Connor's character immediately. His hotshot attitude, his swagger, the winks, the sexy smirks....everything! And Frankie!...the exact counterpart to Connor's character. She engaged with him right away, without judgment. She may come across as meek, or without backbone, but I feel like she had a presence about her that is just as commanding as Connor's, if not more. She didn't back down when challenged. And after many interactions with Frankie, Connor started to acquire a more reserved quality about him. Smart remarks and running his mouth doesn't mean an automatic win in the ring. They are an absolute match for each other! And throw in a crazy stalker ex-girlfriend, a creepy landlord, and an overconfident hothead of an opponent, and it makes the book just as dramatic as it is hot and swoony!

Without a doubt, this is JD Hawkins' best book yet! You will not regret reading it; a highly recommended must read! 5 Knockout Stars!

5 Alpha stars!

I think I'm developing a serious addiction to J.D. Hawkins . His heroes are always mind blowing, gorgeous and know how to make you forget the world when they're around.

What happens when two opposites meet?

What happens when rage is challenged by self control, anger is met with calm, soft curves with hard abs...

Connor 'Alpha Male' Anderson, a cocky, arrogant MMA figther with an ego the size of the universe and a body to kill for.

description

He is every thing the UFC needs now. Two fights and he would be the next king of the ring and the belt would be his as long as wants after all he's Connor Alpha Male...

“That interview, where they talked about your nickname, ‘Alpha Male’…why did you end up with a nickname like that? I mean, I get it…you’re tough, good-looking, cocky…but so are a ton of other fighters. So why you?”....

“’Cause I know who I am, I know what I want, and I know how to get it.”

So yeah, that's Connor Alpha male Anderson people should know but what about the real one... the stressed, angry insecure one that no body knows except her..?

Frankie, the hippie and the yoga instructor is what Connor needs before the big fights.

description

The things she makes him do on the mat in her studio are so relaxing but something about that struggling instructor with relationship issues makes him want more than yoga lessons and it's more than just getting laid...

description

“I love eating pussy as much as the next guy, but something about this woman makes me want to go down on her for hours, bury my head between those toned thighs, drink her essence until her tight little body spasms with chaotic joy.”

I like J.D. Hawkins' books. They are charming, hot and have gorgeous, special toe curling heroes and this Secrets of an Alpha Male book is just Wow!!!

I know the secret of being an alpha male. I'm just not prepared to tell you until you have your very own cult, have a fiery crotch and a penchant for grey T-shirts.

Connor Anderson has swagger. He's a roughty toughty fighter boy with an ego bigger than the Grand Canyon. He also has a collection of signed Dostoyevsky books, or does he?

Matching the big oaf of pure beef with a hippie yoga teacher who wears tie dye is total genius. And also worthy of lots of research on google images. I do wish I was that bendy.

The book had really good pace, fab characters (I loved Irish Butch), and great plot. Not just boy meets girl, boy and girl get jiggy, happy ever after but threads of plot that come together. And they come together spectacularly. That - oh my gosh scene - I loved it and re-enacted it after I read it.

JD continues to impress with his humorous witty banter. He is definitely one of my go to authors when I'm looking for a fun, happiness inducing read.

“It ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.” ~Rocky Balboa

Some stories, like a fighter on the mat, pack a punch to your gut, grabbing you when you least expect it in a move you did not see coming. You’re left in shock. Your head may be spinning while your body may be swaying in a mind-blown state. J.D. Hawkins’ Secrets of an Alpha Male struck me like a sucker punch, hard and a fast, with a force that I did not see coming in a book that BLEW ME AWAY!!!

From the first few pages, I was completely captivated and captured as Secrets of an Alpha Male held me firmly like a fighter in a head-lock. These compelling characters thrust me into a world of both fast and furious fighting, and slow and soothing yoga, opposites that attracted and worked in every way. Adrenaline flowed through my body where I felt this rush of a read. I WAS ALL IN.

A hot and cocky fighter, Connor ‘Alpha Male’ Anderson, finally has his chance to compete in the ring…the UFC. This big, brawny, and brainy man is going to the big leagues. The underdog, like Rocky Balboa, Connor has the fight of his life to prove himself and see if he can live up to the Alpha Male title that he boasts like a beast and a boss.

“Whether it’s the start of a fight, the first sign you get from a woman, or the roll of the dice—I can’t get enough of the thrill of a challenge, the excitement of a risk. Every guy knows that feeling, but few of them can handle too much of it. Me? I can’t handle living without it.”

Go big or go home. Connor is a force of a fighter whose biggest problem is keeping his head in the game. Fortunately, Frankie Jones, a gorgeous yoga instructor is up for the job. Smart and sexy Frankie sees through Connor’s lines and perhaps is as alpha as the fighter himself. Fireworks flare through them, igniting their bodies like an inferno, threatening to strike with flames.

“I want nothing more than for Connor’s lips to touch mine—and as they do, I realize I want them to stay there, right in the present, the future too uncertain, the past meaningless.”

Connor and Frankie are perfect together…fire and ice. They are each other's air. Each other’s hope. Each other’s salvation. As Frankie helps Connor get his mental game in check before the big fight, the last thing this fighter needs is a beautiful distraction. The last thing Frankie needs is an alpha male who believes the hype when she sees what he won’t see: Connor’s better…the real deal.

“I’m an alpha male. I don’t need anyone’s help.”

“You’re not an alpha male. You just believed your own hype.”

The hype is that Secrets of an Alpha Male is ALL THAT. OH DID I FALL FAST AND HARD. This fighter romance fought its way into my heart, which raced as this romance became my rush. Secrets of an Alpha Male is a tale of guts and glory that gripped my heart, sinking itself into my soul, in a knock-out of a fighter romance.

In a story that’s so much more than its title, Secrets of an Alpha Male is passionate and powerful, a fierce fighter story that bleeds inspiration. A fighter story that’s premise is to fight both in the ring and out. Life is going to come at you, hard. It’s going to throw obstacles in your path that you will have to overcome if you want to see success. But you have to fight hard for your beliefs, possessing a warrior’s spirit and attacking your challenges from inside-out. Most importantly, the secret of an alpha male is believing in yourself.

“Until you start believing in yourself, you ain’t gonna have a life.” ~Rocky Balboa

It’s no secret how much I love fighter romances like Secrets of an Alpha Male, the adrenaline rush where my heart pumps with each page is pure satisfaction. J.D. Hawkins has busted out his best and most brilliant book yet—a fierce fighter romance with a lethal dose of destiny and dreams—that hooked my heart, never letting go. Sometimes there’s a sheer advantage to writing the known or where expertise exists: that intimate knowledge shines where the author’s passion penetrates through the pages. J.D. Hawkins’ intimate knowledge of MMA is splattered all over this story…almost like this book was his destiny…perhaps mine too.

4 3/4 stars. Take one hot fighter, add a dash or make that a really large scoop of cockiness, throw in a very Zen yoga chick and you get the recipe for a fun book to read.

Connor Anderson is your cocky hot fighter who is getting his big chance in the UFC. He's slated for one entrance fight and then a title match so to say Connor is pretty cocky about his fighting skills is an understatement. The guy is used to the typical fighter groupie girls but really meets his match when he meets his polar opposite, a very zen girl who runs her own yoga studio.

So for me personally what I really liked best about this book were the actual fight scenes. I guess that is because I'm a bit of a UFC fan. JD Hawkin's descriptions of the fights as seen through Connor's eyes while he is actually fighting were perfect. I actually felt like I was in his brain, seeing what he was seeing, feeling what he was feeling, anticipating what he was anticipating.

On top of that the author has a particular writing style that I have come accustomed to. He has a way of describing things in metaphors and he is really quite good about it.

"I call to mind each perfect part of his body and study it with the intensity of a crime scene"

This book is a great lesson in not falling for or believing the hype about yourself. Staying humble, working hard and not giving up on your dreams even when things get rough.

You will find both Connor and Frankie to be likable characters as well as Connor's coach Butch. There are a couple characters you will want to throat punch but they are meant to be that way for the sake of the story. Connor and Frankie make a good match, but I would have liked to have felt more of a stronger connection between them as a couple. But overall it was a really enjoyable story.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book...

This was my first book to read by this author, and it did not disappoint!

Cocky doesn't begin to describe Connor Anderson. He is the stereotypical definition of what an Alpha Male would be. After winning his first UFC fight on a technicality, Connor is knocked down a few notches, causing him to reevaluate what it really means to be alpha, be the best. Running his mouth and flashing that smile got him absolutely nowhere, at least in the ring.

That smile does; however, attract the enticing yoga instructor Frankie Jones. For all the jokes Connor makes about what yoga and meditation can do, he's taken aback at how beneficial it becomes to his fighting, helping him prep for the fight of his life, the fight to redeem his tarnished alpha reputation.

This love between Frankie and Connor is sweet and smart, though like any relationship, it comes with its ups and downs.

Under all the technical fight jargon (which adds a level of authenticity to the trope), this is a story of a man humbling himself when living as the "alpha male" gets the best of him while the woman he wants like no other is quite the ball buster!

I really enjoyed this book. I hadn't read much of what it was about before-hand and it was my first JD Hawkins book so I went in not knowing what to expect at all.

I was a bit unsure with the prologue as to whether this was going to be the tone for the whole book. Thankfully, reading on it just got better and better. Connor oozes sexiness and a natural confidence – at least on the outside. I loved watching him grow as a person and fell in love with him more and more, even through his f**k ups.

"Cause I know who I am, I know what I want, and I know how to get it.”

Frankie though! Wow! For me she was the best character. I started off cringing hoping she wasn't going to be a pathetic girly girl, but turns out she is a good mix of issues, badassness, modesty and gorgeousness.

I enjoyed the banter between the boys. I haven't read many books with a group of boys. Usually lots of back-and-forth girl/boy talk. Not much room for boisterousness.

Let's get to the naughty bits! Someone open a window because the sexual tension is scorching! Ugh, the build-ups and teases were spot on. Just thinking about their 'moments' is quickening my heart. I actually enjoyed these scenes more than the full blown “Hokey Cokey” moments – my mind drifted for them. I know. I'm not sure what's wrong with me!

"Because I’m gonna fuck you so hard it’ll change you as person, leave a mark on your soul that nothing else can remove. Because I’ll fill your body with so much pleasure there won’t be room for any of the doubts, the fears, the pride you wrap yourself in. Because you wanted to know what an alpha male is, and I’m done telling you—now I’m going to show you"

The build-up to the fights was brilliant. I felt anxious, apprehensive, excited. I really loved this side of the book equally to the love story.

I'm giving 4.5 only knocking a half of because something in the nooky scene's didn't keep me on the page. I definitely recommend one-clicking still! ~ Autumn, 4.5 Stars

The world already knows by now that when JD Hawkins writes a book, a dirty-talking sexy alpha male is sure to follow. This was definitely the case here, and boy was it a scorcher! Connor and Frankie were an amazing couple and their chemistry and banter were off the charts.

We all love our MMA fighters and Connor proved to be one of the best. He was cocky and confident and all man in the bedroom, but was also sweet and heartfelt when it counted. Mr. Hawkins did an amazing job showcasing the different facets of Connor's personality, balancing his macho "alpha" side along with his sweet and loving vulnerable side.

Likewise, Frankie was no shrinking violet to Connor's big bad alpha wolf. She was fiercely independent and gave as good as she got. No doormat here folks! She knew who she was and judged her own success based on her own merits and accomplishments.

While their chemistry was quick and electric off the bat, their compatibility wasn't as seamless. Connor and Frankie had no shortage of obstacles and issues they had to work through, but I absolutely loved that - at the end of the day -they both had an unrelenting drive to fight for each other. ~ Ratula, 4 “Knockout” Stars

Turn up the fan, things are getting hot in here…

I was in the mood for a sassy, sexy read and I got just that! Connor Anderson and Frankie Jones struck sparks off each other from the get-go. Connor couldn’t have been more ‘alpha male’ and seeing him embrace yoga made that even more clear. Just imagining that fighter body twisting and turning into all those positions... oh Mama! Or should I say mmm..mmm…A.

Connor thought he was ready for the biggest MMA title fight of his career. Until he realized he wasn’t. Getting involved with Frankie and her mind (and body) bending ways was going to mean more than professional gain. Frankie was struggling to get her new studio off the ground but that didn’t mean she wanted to rely on other people’s help – especially not a cocky, MMA fighter who had testosterone and attitude to spare. Not that she wasn’t attracted to him, far from it.

“Just to clarify… you are asking me out on a date, right?”
“If it goes well. If not, then it’s just a free meal and some conversation.”

Feisty is the word of the day as two independent, strong personalities realize they can’t resist each other. Even though they both know they shouldn’t. They wouldn’t. Yet…they can’t help it.

Family protests. Manager protests. Everyone has an opinion that adds to the noise. Despite that, they can’t help but indulge in sexy and flirty banter that leads to more. Insecurities are laid bare and fears are out in the open as two unlikely lovers find their way.

So good! ~ Diane, 4 Stars

First of all I'm going to whine again that I can't give more stars. **pouts**

Are you ready for MMA fighter Connor and Yoga teacher Frankie? You should be.
First time ever I didn't forget the female name. I have a girl crush on Frankie. I loved her. You know the sassy girls? She is nothing like that at all. When most characters being sassy are getting annoying I never had it with Frankie. She is the girl I want to be.

As for Connor as Alpha male the same. It was not over the top, but just right. Confident and solid. I can't tell you how hard I fell in love with them. You HAVE to read this to understand.

Even the amount of sex scenes were not too much. You know some stories they use sex scenes to cover up a bad storyline?
No, not this one. I thought Confessions of a bad boy was my favourite, but not anymore.

Secrets of an Alpha male is my favourite now. I'm impressed. Seriously

What a book! I loved Conner and Frankie. They kind of grew on you. Both characters and other minor ones were thoroughly written about and built page by page to "the fight". A lot good principles of control were explored. The MMA fighting was written well enough for a beginner like me to understand. It was beautiful and well-written in context. I hated to leave them!!! As usual, you want "one-more-book" with Conner and Frankie in the book!! The writing is smooth and carries you along with story line and before you know it, it's 3am and you still want to continue to read! Thanks, JD for another good book. It was fantastic!!!

This is only my second time reading a book by JD Hawkins but I feel like I'm familiar with his writing style already. His story telling is both simple and complicated and extremely difficult for me to describe.

This story started off a little rough for me. The whole "Alpha Male" thing felt over the top and, frankly, I didn't fall in love with Connor right away. But the beauty of books is how the author tells a story and develops the characters into who they are meant to be rather than who they start off as and eventually I did indeed fall.

Connor is cocky and confident, a true example of an Alpha Male, but what's hidden beneath the surface? How real can the confidence be when a smirk or doubt from an adversary sets him off on a downward spiral? Sometimes a big mouth is just that, a big mouth. Can Connor learn to back up all that talk with a clear mind and a grounded heart or is he really just caught up in all of the hype?

Let's be honest though, the real star of this story was Frankie and her no-nonsense approach to Connor and her ability to know when to call him on his bs and when to let it go. She knew the right ways to push him and when to walk away. No doormats here, thank you very much.

Back to my inability to truly describe JD Hawkins writing style. The plot and progression of it feel very simple and easy. It's clear that the author is knowledgeable about MMA and probably even yoga since he brilliantly writes the scenes in a way that puts you in the Octagon with Connor or the studio with Frankie. There is no over the top drama or ridiculously unnecessary sex that stole anything away from the story. The relationship between Frankie and Connor felt very organic and realistic in nature. There is no constant back and forth between them and no declarations of undying love in a grandiose moment so special it won't be forgotten. They just sort of fall, and what a fun trip it was.

The complex part of JD's writing comes in the poetic way he describes the more sensual moments between Frankie and Connor. These aren't your typical love scenes that we read about everyday. Honestly, when I say sensual, I don't even always mean the sex scenes but the way that he writes Connor's POV as he stumbles into love with Frankie.

The depth of the story came not in the way they fell in love and the roadblocks they encountered along the way, but instead in the emotion and strength of the kind of love they fell into and how JD Hawkins captures that feeling with poetry and beauty.

Let me just start by saying J.D. is an amazing writer and he surprises me with each book he puts out. I love an alpha male and Connor has that in spades; confident, strong, dedicated to achieving his goals. Then he meets Frankie when he takes a yoga class to help him focus. Frankie is my girl; a hard worker that is determined to make it on her without help from anyone. Can she help Connor or will she be a pleasant distraction?? Grab your copy of Secrets of an Alpha Male, you will not regret it.

I'm not even sure where to start with this book. Let's start by me saying that I'm not really into fighting. Sure, I've watched some UFC fights here and there. But nothing that I was passionate about such as football or baseball...etc. But I will tell you this, I now have a complete new admiration and utmost respect for this sport. And the UFC has a new fan!!! All because of this book!!!

Frankie and Connor put a whole new meaning to opposites attract! One being a hippy-ish yoga instructor and the other being a huge, muscley, professional fighter. Connor is not just a fighter. But he's an alpha male. A very cocky alpha. And Frankie is just what he needs to knock him off his pedestal and right on his ass. And speaking of ass, this brings me to the hotness level of this book. Sweet Jesus. There is nothing hotter than when a man says this--->>“I’m gonna fuck you so hard you’ll dream about it,” or growls this--->>“Good girl. I’m gonna fuck you with my mouth now."
Oh yes, Connor has the perfect dirty mouth.

But besides all that hotness, there is an amazing story!!! I can't count how many times my heart was pounding. The descriptive detail of the training that goes into this sport left me sweating. Like I was the one doing the workout or the fighting lol! At times I felt like I was in that cage! That is the power of great writing. To take you out of your element and put you somewhere you thought you'd never be, and to truly enjoy!

I say this with every JD Hawkins book I read, but THIS, this book, is my new favorite!!! I walked away with another amazing book and a new sport to follow!!! And a new crush on a certain UFC fighter!! If you haven't discovered Secrets of an Alpha Male yet, DO IT!!!!

Cue the Rocky music and get ready to meet one hot freakin alpha!!

Connor 'Alpha Male' Anderson is one bad a$$ fighter. He knows what he wants and isn't afraid to go for it in the ring and out of it. He's hot, knows how to please a women and will bring you to your knees.

Frankie Jones is a hard working, dedicated yoga instructor and business owner. She's smart and feisty but struggling to stay afloat.

When the two cross paths, their attraction is undeniable. When they hook up (?), holy bejeezus I thought my kindle would go on fire.

Connor has definitely met his match, but he needs to keep his head in the ring if he wants to win the championship.

Problem is, he can't seem to stay away.
"'Cause I know who I am, I know what I want, and I know how to get it."

Secrets of an Alpha Male is a steamy read with a splash of angst and lots of hilarious moments.

J.D. Hawkins will have you swooning over Connor and wishing for your very own MMA fighter to spar with.

Oh and one more thing, who knew yoga could be so freakin hot?!! I gotta try this at home

Whats is really an Alpha Male?
That's the question and it was answer beautifully.

description

Connor and Frankie were a combinations made by the gods. They truly complemented each other, they were each other halves.

I think this has to be JD most profound story. This story felt real, raw and all those things you feel when a story is more than a story and you can feel it like it was a reality. Being an Alpha Male is no joke and it requires a true man to be one, and Connor and Frankie realize that. Nothings comes from being an egomaniac and not realizing when you need help.

Really a good book, I would have like it to be a little longer an explore their relationship a little more, but believe me Secrets of an Alpha Male came to make UFC a sexy thing.

Secrets of an Alpha Male is one more amazing book by JD Hawkins.
It is the kind of book that once you begin to read it, you can’t stop.
A story about Connor MMA Alpha Male fighter and Frankie a Yoga teacher, as much as I liked Connor, I LOVED Frankie.
I could feel the chemistry between them and how their relationship and love began to grow. Butch the trainer is an amazing character and then there is Matt, I would love to read a book about him.
Jaime and Tara… sometimes I wished I could punch them, but I loved how Frankie handled every situation.

This book is fun, sexy, romantic.

“Being an alpha male. Knowing something nobody else does”

“Keep your thoughts to yourself, Connor, because you become a slave to them once they’re out”

I went into this book thinking Connor, the hero, was going to be over the top and someone I might have a hard time liking. As a matter of fact, the prologue had me convinced I was right and put the put down for a few days. But when I picked this back up, I discovered a Connor I really liked and who was more than the Alpha Male character he waved around.

Connor is an up and coming UFC fighter who meets local yoga instructor, Frankie, while in line at a local health food store. Connor's attracted her her right away, but it's not until he visits her yoga studio that he discovers this woman he's drawn to is going to be his game changer.

Connor had a huge ego, but it was a persona he used to promote himself as a fighter. With Frankie, we saw a completely different side of him. One who was kind, loyal and willing to do what needed to be done for Frankie. It was nice to see he so humble because his Alpha Male alter ego was so annoying. When we saw the Connor he was with Frankie, it was easy to forgive the ass he was as Alpha Male.

I liked Frankie. She had a backbone that I think most didn't believe she possessed. She never gave up, even when things looked bleak. She was determined to make her dreams a reality and that determination rubbed off on Connor when he most needed it.

This was my first JD Hawkins book and I enjoyed her voice. The characters were likable and the storyline moved at a good pace. I think the storyline could have stood on its own without the added ingredient of Connor's ex-girlfriend, but in the end, it did make a difference since I was invested in Connor and Frankie.

If you're looking for a fighter story that's more about the heart of the fighter, this is definitely one to consider.

I read this book twice, back-to-back because I didn't want to miss a thing and JD's carefully worded writing style keeps me on my toes. Hawkins offers up a glimpse into the life of a man on the rise in the MMA fighting world.

Connor "Alpha Male" Anderson is joining the UFC after being in small organized fights for a couple of years and training for an upcoming shot at the Light-heavyweight Title. He's as cocky and brash as his name suggests and a chance meeting in line at the local juice bar has him setting his sites on a new conquest.

Frankie Jones, yoga instructor and acknowledged hippie is struggling to keep her beloved studio open with few clients and an enormous lecherous ass of a landlord getting in her way at every chance. While on a morning outing with her all business older sister, she is entertained by Connor's line but more so by the chance at getting a new client in the door.

I thoroughly enjoyed the main characters who's personalities are similar and opposite at the same time. Connor might be a bull in the china shop on the outside but he is deeper than he lets on to anyone. He is the perfect match for Frankie who despite knowing herself well doesn't have the courage to trumpet herself professionally.

The story is compelling and kept me completely engaged. It was fascinating being in Connor's mind during sparring and actual fights. I was rooting him on the whole time! I might take up yoga after enjoying the relaxing benefits of Frankie's breathing exercise instruction. The couple work around their small aversions to partnering up and the roadblocks constructed by Connor's devious ex and become an excellent team.

I will read this one again, I can't give this book higher praise than that.

Secrets of an Alpha Male gives us the answer to the age old question what is an Alpha Male? The definite answer can be found on the last page of the book.

Cocky, arrogant Connor 'Alpha Male' Anderson has all the confidence in the world. He is taking the leap from obscurity to fighting for the UFC's light-heavyweight championship belt. He doesn't do it quietly, oh no Connor makes sure the whole world knows he's the best in a overly self-assured kinda way. Cocky maybe too nice of a word for Connor. He's is in need of a lesson in humility and humbleness.

Frankie Jones is a struggling yoga instructor. She owns her own business but it's on the brink of closure. Frankie is well trained in yoga but her unwillingness to accept help has her business floundering. She's stubborn and wants to prove that she can do it on her own.

When Connor first meets Frankie, while purchasing some green gunky health drink (drink type is an assumption), he makes sure he doesn't leave without her card. He sneaks his way into her yoga class and soon after her pants. This an acute case of opposites attracting. However the one thing they both have in common is their stubbornness that almost dooms both their careers.

You don't want to miss this Alpha love story filled with wit, humor, vindication and a well concluded HEA. The author does a great job drawing his story together and giving us the best HEAs. 5 Stars!

And Hawkins is back!!!!

I have so much love for Hawkins but to me, Secrets of an Alpha Male, reminded me why I fell in love with his writing in the first place!

Hawkins definitely did his research on MMA fighting and yoga, the book was as educational as it was entertaining.

The characters were witty, sensitive and very intelligent. I love the way Hawkins can blast through stereotypes, giving you a stereotypical alpha male who blows you away with his emotions as much as his physique.

The chemistry between Frankie and Connor was off the charts, another Hawkins trademark.

My favorite Hawkins' writing signature was in full force in this story: He has this ability to subtly build your emotions, until his tugging at your heartstrings and you're not sure how that even happened.

This book will make you hot, it will make you laugh, and it will make you feel.
