The Lost History of Ancient America

Rate this book
The Lost History of Ancient America presents new evidence of transoceanic visitors to America, hundreds, even thousands, of years before Christopher Columbus was born. Its 20 eminent contributors are experts in a variety of fields, from botany, biology, and prehistoric engineering to underwater archaeology, archaeo-astronomy, and Bronze Age warfare.

In ancient times, the sea was not an impassable barrier separating our ancestors from the outside world, but a highway taking them to every corner of it. Never before and nowhere else has so much evidence proving the impact made on America by overseas visitors been assembled.

About the author

Frank Joseph

Frank Joseph is the pen name of Francis Joseph Collin, a former activist with the American Nazi Party/National Socialist White People's Party and the founder of the National Socialist Party of America. In 1979, Collin was convicted of child molestation and sentenced to seven years in prison, and he lost his position in the party.

Upon his release from prison, Collin reinvented himself under the pseudonym of Frank Joseph, a New Age writer and a pagan worshiper. In 1987, he had his first New Age book published, The Destruction of Atlantis: Compelling Evidence of the Sudden Fall of the Legendary Civilization.

He wrote articles for the magazine Fate, and between 1993 and 2007 he was also an editor of Ancient American. This magazine focuses on what it considers to be evidence of ancient, pre-Columbian transoceanic contact between the Old World and North America, with the implication that all complex aspects of North America's indigenous cultures must have originated on other continents.

I enjoyed this book. I am always fascinated by ideas that do not fit the status quo, and I read with an open mind. I have read other books that “documented” the discovery of bones of giants found in mounds in the USA. (Giants are mentioned in the Bible, so why not here?) Underwater ruins are found all around the world, so it is not shocking to me to read that they have been found off the coast of Oregon. I was quite fascinated by the possibility of Bronze Age oil wells in Pennsylvania…and why not? Oil comes to the surface in many oil rich locations. I was also interested in the description of plants that are found in different areas where they are not indigenous and the idea that those species were taken to other places through commerce.
I was warned by a Face Book reader about the veracity of this author, saying none of his theories are proven. Sill, I am reminded that at one time people believed that the earth was flat and that was proven untrue. I have no problem believing that there were civilizations in America before Columbus “discovered” it. Educated elites definitely have added to current knowledge of our world, and I understand how they would push against anything that would suggest they might not have all the answers. Still if no one ever questioned and delved deeper, we would still think the world is flat.
If you have a curious mind, if you believe that anything is possible, I suggest you read this book and decide for yourself how much you are able to believe.

I would rate this 2 1/2 stars but rounded up to 3.

This is a series of magazine articles of varying quality on the ancient archeology of America. The book blurb states that the book demonstrates the link between the old worlds and the Americas but only some of the articles do so.

There are some very 'weak tea' arguments for the Old World/New World connection such as citing a preserved bobcat found in the upper Midwest indicating a cultural connection with cat-worshiping ancient Egypt.

I personally believe that there was cultural contact between the old and new worlds in extreme antiquity but other books and authors do a better job of presenting the facts and making those arguments.

I grabbed this book because I think pre-Columbian exploration did occur. I was mainly looking for evidence and sound arguments to either back my theory or blow it up. This book skimmed the evidence and offered some hints. Overall, the book was just a giant middle finger towards the archeology establishment and didn't really focus on presenting a singular theory with evidence.
