Capturing Devonshire

“May I have the next dance?”

Stunned, I nearly stopped breathing. Were I not in the company of several men and women who were now watching us with whispers, giggles, and anticipating smiles, I would have refused. But for the sake of my mother and brother, who were also among the group, I could not bring myself to do so, as they were so enjoying the evening; and so, swallowing and my heart racing wildly, I extended my hand, and his closed around mine...

Miriam is accustomed to a quiet, ordinary life in her little town, when a handsome stranger moves into Devonshire Estate and changes everything. Although she is frustrated and yearning for a change, the moody and unpredictable Mr. Thornhill is not what she had in mind. On top of everything else, he seems to have a mysterious past that he never talks about, which only serves to raise her suspicions even more. And yet she cannot deny that he has an effect on her that may soften her heart, after all...

Meet Miriam, the quirky inhabitants of the town of Devonshire, and of course the striking Mr. Thornhill in this charming first book of the Love in Devonshire series.

When I started Capturing Devonshire I was worried I would dislike it because of another book in a similar setting that I read with a terribly slow plot. This book has a plot that is nowhere near plodding. Helen Rose has engaging characters and settings that are described with just enough detail that it wasn't bogged down but I knew what Miriam was seeing. I can say with confidence that I will be reading whatever Helen Rose publishes next.
