Following a disastrous victory, sniper captain June Vereeth and four soldiers are stranded on the frozen world of Preciless 75. They have only a few days' worth of food, their wits and their weapons. Without radio or satellite help, there's no means of contacting the nearest friendly outpost, 70 million miles away. The local wildlife includes dangerous predators. Best of all, their relentless adversaries - the Mitasterites - are coming back. Captain Vereeth never wanted to lead troops. Now, she and her team must engineer an escape from P-75 - if they can live long enough.
An interesting beginning to a military sci-fi series. I enjoyed the main characters in the story but was a bit bored at times with the endless trudging through a snowy, barren planet. I'd like to know more about the military organization and the worlds from which the main characters come, as well as a bit more about the enemy. But this is just the first book and a decent introduction. We'll see what the next one brings!
If you are the only surviving officer, a Special Forces officer, a sniper, are you responsible to lead any other survivors?
If you are the only surviving officer, a Special Forces officer, a sniper, are you responsible to lead any other survivors? That is the question June Vereeth must answer. As a survivor of the ill fated defense of planet P-75 she must evade the massive occupying army of the Mitasterites, Mitties, voracious conquerors that make the Nazis look like fluffy kittens. As the only woman can she lead this ragtag band, eluding an omnipotent enemy and the strange creatures of this frozen hell? Is there a means of escape? Does she have what it takes? Find out by reading Endgame, a truly brilliant depiction of war and desperation.
