I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have not read any of the other books in this series, so I feel like I missed a few things related to Tyler and Linden's relationship. Their connection was very insta, and part of that I think is because they met in a previous book. And so because I didn't get to experience that, I didn't feel the connection I'm sure the author intended. I can't say this book is a standalone for that very reason. The mystery is not related (from what I could tell) to any previous book, so that is standalone, it's their relationship that makes me tell you to find the book these two were a part of and read it first.
Having said all that, this wasn't a bad book. The writing is good, the plot (while unbelievable and made me scratch my head in an "oh, really? That's the drive behind murder?") was quickly executed. I would say if you have read the previous books in the series, you will enjoy this one and add it to the TBR list. If you have not this series, it could be worth your while. I think I plan to check out book 1 and see where it starts. I wasn't turned off this author or the series. I do want to learn more about it.

3.5 Stars ~ 'Bait' is Elizabeth Noble's fifth book in her very exciting thriller series 'Circles'. In this book I'm revisiting characters I met briefly in the previous installment, Tyler and Linden. Tyler did a stupid thing when he was young and ruled by his hormones. He paid for his crime, not just by going to prison, but by never being allowed to use the degree he worked six years to get. Now he works at an Inn in the Black Hills of Wyoming. Linden is an FBI agent who was involved when Mason and Riece were running for their lives from the insane hunters in book four. Linden figures since Tyler sort of knows him it'll be a good idea to go and question him regarding these latest murders he's investigating where Tyler might be a suspect.
Julius, the murder victim, has two ex-boyfriends - but neither of them can be located… but Tyler is the only thing connecting all of them and that's why Linden is in Wyoming during a blizzard. Tyler recognizes Julius as one of his students way back when and it appears that one of Julius's exes, Dimas, is also the man Tyler was involved with and the reason he lost his job. Since Tyler and Linden are now looking at over three feet of snow, it's still coming down, and the inn is closed for renovations, this leaves the two of them alone with some hinky goings-on.

Bait (Circles #5) by Elizabeth Noble

I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
This is the only book that I've read in this series, but I didn't think that there was anything that I was missing. Noble explained how Linden and Tyler met and why they had a history.
I didn't really understand the mystery - it was predictable and didn't really add to the story that much - in fact, it jived more with the past that Tyler was just coming out of.
Overall, this story was strange - it was kind of a story, but I felt that there was a lot of history that was hinted at - an attraction, that I just didn't really see in this story. Yes, Tyler and Linden developed a relationship, but I didn't really feel that they had great chemistry.

When he gets there before a major storm hits, it becomes evident that his gut reaction to Tyler was spot on, and now he will protect this man with everything in his power. Super hot chemistry that will keep you warm in any blizzard. Fast, exciting pacing that will keep you tapping that e-reader screen to get to the next page. Super ending with really good character development. My only issue with this series is that I have now read the last book. I don’t know if the series will continue, I hope so.

Fast moving and action-packed story line
Tyler and Linden developed an attraction in Book Four of the series and the smoldering embers come to the forefront in Book Five. The attraction is there. There is a snow storm which isolates them and cuts off their communication with everyone else. Due to the storm, they are trapped and they are not alone. The suspense builds throughout the book alternating with the smoldering attraction that keeps being pushed to the back burner for the sake of survival.
The story line is very fast moving and action packed. I was surprised with short amount of space the author needed to tell the intricate plot. It was extremely well written, and kept me engaged to the end, in fact I read it in one sitting! This is the first book in the series I have read and I was concerned that I would be missing foundational history for the characters. Overall, this was addressed well and most of my questions regarding the history of Tyler and Linden were answered. Believe I'll have to place the other four books in this series on my reading list!

Was the best of the series until the abrupt ending of the action sequence had no follow up and a whole chunk of intervening time was skipped over just to fit in the single sex scene, which I skipped.

Enjoyed reading. Tyler and Linden are good characters. The story has suspense and action, along with romance, all what I enjoy. Recommend reading.

This is a very quick and easy read about FBI agent Linden Bourne and former teacher Tyler McCall. I have not read any of the other books in this series, so there were parts of the relationship that I missed. For example there there references to their earlier meeting during a previous case in which Agent Bourne was involved.
Aside from that, I found the book to be very enjoyable. The premised the story: two suspicious deaths have landed on Linden’s radar; one of which is a murder made to look like a suicide. The victim of the murder is linked to Tyler in peripheral way. Tyler a former teacher who was convicted of having a sexual relationship with a student, had moved to “middle of nowhere Wyoming” for a new start after being released from prison. The dead man was a former tide (R) of Tyler’s and was in a relationship with the student with whom Tyler had the affair. All of these coincidences bring Linden and Tyler back together.
The dialogue is witty, the story flows well, and the characters are likable. I recommend this read.

Tyler moved to Wyoming when he made a mistake that ended his career. Now ten years later, he’s happily working at an inn when FBI Agent Linden Bourne shows up almost accusing him of possible murder. But soon Linden realizes Tyler couldn’t be a suspect especially when some mysterious person is terrorizing Tyler and Linden while they’re stuck in a blizzard. Now they must fight for their lives and try to survive a person who’s hellbent on cutting them off from the world and making them their next victim.
I’ve really enjoyed these stories in the Circle series. Aside from the first two books, these can be read as standalones so you don’t need to read the whole series to read this one. I really liked both of these characters. I expected Tyler to be more hardened and almost bitter because of what’s happened to him but he was sweet and almost timid but more comfortable with who and where he was. As for Linden, I’m not quite sure if I liked him. I couldn’t really understand him because he went from believing Tyler was a suspect to meeting him for five minutes and thinking he wasn’t. Add to that, we didn’t really get much of who he was as a person so I didn’t feel like we really knew him. Although, I did like how protective he was of Tyler and how close they got so quickly.
There were a few things I was confused on, though, such as why Linden would follow up on a guy who was in a different state that he could have easily looked up flights or traffic cameras or really anything that would have given Tyler an alibi instead of going all that way Wyoming to interrogate him. Add to that, I really wished instead of getting the prologue we got, we would have gotten the one where Linden and Tyler first met because that would have had more to do with the story than what was given. It also took a really long time to figure out how much time had passed between the prologue and the first chapter so I was constantly questioning how long Tyler had been in Wyoming.
All in all, I really enjoyed this story. I loved Tyler and Linden as characters and I was very intrigued by the mystery and trying to figure out who was killing all these people. I also liked the bit of action that resulted in the resolution. Definitely give this a go if you’ve enjoyed this series so far and looking for a quick action story with a bit of sweetness to it.

After serving six months in prison, he’s finally released and has no other choice but to stay with his sister, Briley, while he struggles to get his life back on track. Tyler isn’t a stranger to Linden; they’d met briefly before, in Wyoming, on another case. Linden was supposed to call Tyler, but that never happened. Now, as both Tyler and Linden become more involved in the investigation, strange things start to happen that put both their lives in danger.
Bait is the fifth book in the Circle series. This story is a fast read, as are the other books in the series—descriptive, action packed, and well written with nicely developed characters. For a short story, I was really amazed by how much Elizabeth Noble packed into this murder mystery set in a deserted ski resort, with a snow storm and a killer on the loose. And, she also gives a surprise ending. Bait was a page turner for me, and I hope it isn’t the last book in this series!

Want to read
January 13, 2022This was an action-packed story, with complex and interesting characters and a great development even though it seemed to be so short- which only makes it more impressive.
The fact that this was the first I read from the series wasn't a problem for me, since it was strong enough to stand on its own- however, I can absolutely say that it made me want to check out the rest of the series!

This is the first book that I have read in this series and I have to say that I will be going back and seeing if they are as good as this one and the same genre as this one. Even though this is part of a series it can definitely be read as a stand alone which I was glad about. I also liked that the author gave enough back story on Tyler at the beginning that I did not feel like I was in the dark for half way through the book.
Tyler in my opinion really got the crappy end of the deal when he was charged for have an affair with a student. There was so much more to the story then just the fact that Tyler had a relationship with a student. I think that he was charged the way that he was and with what he was charged with was definitely a misjustice.
Even after serving his time, Tyler did what he had to do to start over and make the best of his life. With starting over, Tyler decided to move to Wyoming to start over.
Linden works for the FBI and has landed a case that has Tyler as a possible suspect. Even though Linden does not believe that Tyler has anything to do with the murders he does suspect that Tyler may know more about what is going on then he may know. So Linden packs up and makes another trip to Wyoming to question Tyler and see if he may know anything that can lead him down the path to catch the killer.
What Linden does not expect is to be trapped by the winter storm once he gets there. Nor does he expect the brief attraction he felt towards Tyler at their precious meeting to still be as strong as it was but that was just wishful thinking. Once the two men put their heads together they start to figure out the link between all the victims and Tyler and they also realize that Tyler is probably in danger and most likely the next target. Neither of them realize just how accurate that is and that the killer is a lot closer then they thought.
This book was not that long but it was such a great read. I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next and if the killer would be able to accomplish what they set out to do. I was holding my breath hoping that Linden would finally give in to his feelings for Tyler and that the too of them would be more then just a fling. This is one of those books that you cannot wait to get through just so you know how it will end.
I cannot wait to read more in this series, both older and newer ones as they come out.

Though part of a series, BAIT is easily read as a standalone. It does bring back two side characters from the previous book, GONE AWAY.
FBI Special Agent Landon Bourne is headed back to the Black Hills of Wyoming to either catch a killer or save a man he'd recently met. Tyler McCall had been a high school teacher in Ohio, another life ago. As a recently minted teacher, he didn't balk when he met an attractive younger man, not realizing Dimas was a student in the high school. Their affair was turned in, Tyler went to prison, and more than ten years has passed with no contact between them.
Tyler started over near Devil's Tower, doing odd-jobs, at first. He now delivers beer and mans the reception desk for a local motel. It's honest work and he's glad for it, but he's lonely. It's a big surprise when Agent Bourne shows up at his hotel, hours before a blizzard is set to begin. It's even more of a surprise when Agent Bourne's investigating the possible murders of three of Tyler's former students.
Is it Dimas, on some sore of spree? Or was it Tyler? Landon's pretty certain Tyler wasn't mixed up in these deaths, which had been framed as either accidental or suicides, but that means Tyler might be a target. As the blizzard rages on and the hotel loses power, and contact with the rest of the world, Tyler and Landon scramble to stay warm and safe. If only the elements were their problem.
I had just a bit of trouble with the set-up of the story. It didn't make a lot of sense that this agent, stationed in Arizona, would be the only person sent to question/apprehend Tyler, rather than a local agent--or pair of agents. The suspense elements once the story got going were interesting, however. This is a pretty short read, which didn't allow for as much character development. FBI Special Agent Landon Bourne is headed back to the Black Hills of Wyoming to either catch a killer or save a man he'd recently met. Tyler McCall had been a high school teacher in Ohio, another life ago. As a recently minted teacher, he didn't balk when he met an attractive younger man, not realizing Dimas was a student in the high school. Their affair was turned in, Tyler went to prison, and more than ten years has passed with no contact between them.
Tyler started over near Devil's Tower, doing odd-jobs, at first. He now delivers beer and mans the reception desk for a local motel. It's honest work and he's glad for it, but he's lonely. It's a big surprise when Agent Bourne shows up at his hotel, hours before a blizzard is set to begin. It's even more of a surprise when Agent Bourne's investigating the possible murders of three of Tyler's former students.
Is it Dimas, on some sore of spree? Or was it Tyler? Landon's pretty certain Tyler wasn't mixed up in these deaths, which had been framed as either accidental or suicides, but that means Tyler might be a target. As the blizzard rages on and the hotel loses power, and contact with the rest of the world, Tyler and Landon scramble to stay warm and safe. If only the elements were their problem.
I had just a bit of trouble with the set-up of the story. It didn't make a lot of sense that this agent, stationed in Arizona, would be the only person sent to question/apprehend Tyler, rather than a local agent--or pair of agents. The suspense elements once the story got going were interesting, however. This is a pretty short read, which didn't allow for as much character development. I read this book back when it was first released, but have just reread it after seeing it advertised in Elizabeth Noble's regular newsletter.
As always with Elizabeth's books this was an easy read, the story flows seamlessly from page to page and before I knew it I had finished the book. Always a good sign is that once finished, I wanted to go looking for another book just as readable.
This is the fifth book in her Circles series, but it reads well as a stand alone story. As I recall that was always her intention that each book in the series stood on its own with only very loose connections to the one before it.
The story follows Lyndon, a FBI agent investing a number of mysterious deaths and Tyler his possible suspect who lives deep in the Wyoming mountains. It rapidly becomes apparent that Tyler isn't a suspect for the murders but likely the next victim and it is up to Lyndon to keep him alive. The action all takes place during a dreadful winter storm full of freezing temperature, lots of snow and of course, there's a budding romance.
This book was perfect as a light read on a dark winter's day.

It is about 15 months since I read book 4 so Linden and Taylor as secondaries I couldn’t really remember. Mason in his v small cameo I di, mainly from rereading blurbs and my comments!
The very beginning is Taylor starting of on his new venture and whilst we get all the background to why he relocates, I would have liked to have seen more of the how he got on, what jobs he got etc.
We then fast forward, I guess about 10years to Taylor managing (?) a lodge which Linden stays at.
The case Linden is investigating was not fully explained for me so I was unsure why he was heading for Taylor (unless that was the bit in the previous book?) and whilst there was malice around the creepy upstairs noises, the chase through the snow and all, the tension and fear didn’t really come over so well for me.
At 91 pages it is quite short and I do feel in this case that longer in some part would get this from fine to quite good for me.

Snow & terror in this m/m romance
Tyler met Linden, FBI agent briefly in the previous book but this really can be read as a standalone. Tyler works at the Red Rock hotel which is closed for renovations during the winter months and he is acting as the lone caretaker. Linden show up just before a big storm to ask questions about some murders that are loosely connected to Tyler. They are systematically terrorized by an unknown but crafty killer determined to kill Tyler and using the blizzard to do it. It is an action packed and well written book with the mystery and the romance drawing in the reader. Make sure you bundle up because you will feel the cold.

Having an affair with an 18 year old isn't an issue until you find out he's a student in the school where you teach. And thus starts Tyler's journey to the Black Hills. Linden has two strange cases on his desk, both apparent suicides that just don't add up. He's got some suspects, only one of which he can easily find, but he's also the least likely. His suspect, though, seems to be the common thread to solving the mystery, so a trip to Wyoming in a winter storm is his next step. An interesting start to this thriller romance. The lodge is under renovation so the two men are forced into tight quarters and have to rely on each other for security when the killer takes aim at their next victim.

Elizabeth Noble was a new writer to me but I am so glad that I have now read two of her books. She is such a terrific writer and her descriptions of the snow and ice and the mountains and especially Devil's Tower were so amazing. I loved Tyler and so glad he had a second chance with Linden and so sad at who the murderer turned out to be. Looking forward to reading more of her books.

I liked the story concerning Tyler and Linden, they were a great team, but the true reason for the murders just didn’t seem to be told, that or I just didn’t get it, maybe I missed something. Anyway, it was an enjoyable evening read, my first with this author.

The fifth installment in Elizabeth Noble's Circles series, Bait is a suspense-laden, engrossing mystery.
Ten years after a lapse in judgment cost him his career, Tyler McCall has carved out a new life for himself in Wyoming. So, when FBI Agent Linden Bourne unexpectedly arrives in town right before a big snowstorm, Tyler is a little confused why Bourne is asking questions about people he knew during that time in his life. Linden's latest investigation of two murders leads him to believe a killer is targeting a select group of people that Tyler may have known back then. While he is fairly certain Tyler is not the murderer, he needs to cross Tyler off his suspect list before moving forward with his investigation. Just as the weather takes a drastic turn for the worse, the two men realize they are trapped with the killer. Completely isolated with no way to escape, will Linden be able to save Tyler from certain death?
Having previously met Tyler, Linden does not really believe he is responsible for the murders he is investigating, but he has no choice but to consider him as a suspect. Relieved to discover his instincts are indeed correct, he hopes Tyler can help him figure out why someone would be targeting these particular men from his past. Although Linden makes considerable progress fairly quickly, the would be killer takes advantage of the rapidly deteriorating weather conditions to carry out a calculated attack on Tyler. Despite Tyler's efforts to save himself, he is soon in dire straits and he can only hope Linden will arrive before it is too late.
While the murder investigation is the main focus of the story, there is a slight romantic element to the storyline. Tyler and Linden's brief meeting prior to their unexpected reunion lays the groundwork for their budding romance. There is a simmering attraction between them that neither man pursued since they do not live in the same state. Their renewed acquaintance provides them the impetus to pursue a relationship but the investigation into the murders takes precedence. The novella concludes with a quick peek into the men's lives months after the case is closed that is quite satisfying and quite steamy.
With less than a 100 pages, Bait is a fast-paced and riveting mystery that is sure to be a hit with readers who enjoy a little romance with their mysteries. The characters are multi-faceted and easy to like. The mystery aspect is well-developed and the investigation moves at a brisk pace. The setting springs vibrantly to life and serves as a perfect backdrop for the killer's nefarious plan. This book pulled me into the story right from the beginning. As you’re reading you forget the story isn’t longer. The way Ms. Noble uses words and does so wisely, the story weaves itself and you get lost in the book and involved in the suspense that you can’t put the book down. The romance is secondary in the story and I am so glad it didn’t overpower the suspense and mystery. You can still see the tension between Linden and Tyler as they’re figuring out what’s going on and fighting to survive. But they have more important things to worry about until that’s over. Then they can build a relationship.
Linden was a straight shooter. He was a good FBI agent and told things how they were. He was good at looking at things from different angles to see how they’re all connected. I loved how he actually listened to Tyler and his side of events from the past. Linden showed he cared for Tyler in little ways throughout the story, even as they were dealing with a crazed murderer. A cheek stroke here, a fond glance there. You could feel that tension.
Tyler wound up being more dynamic than I anticipated. With the hints given in the blurb I thought he’d be more negative. But he and his choices weren’t what you’d expect. He works with Linden really well while they’re being pursued. He knows when to listen to someone with more experience and when to take initiative and to help their circumstances. You could tell he had feelings for Linden right from the start but he was also tentative. Compounded was his history and reluctance to have that become an issue.
I liked how these two worked together to solve their problems. I also enjoyed seeing them build a relationship. A little bit at first and then far more when they weren’t in danger any longer. They have a sweet happily ever after ending and you know they’re going to make it for the long haul. I’d love to see more of these two in another story in the series. If not these two, then I at least hope for more books in the series because I enjoy the heck out of them.

As a fan of this series, I couldn’t wait to get started on this book. I have to say that once again I was blown away because Noble has been able to carry over the suspense, drama, action, everything from the previous books in the series into this book as well.
I was literally on the edge of my seat during certain parts of the book because the suspense was that great that I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next.
Linden and Tyler were both great characters that it was really easy to connect with. Noble did a great job at making both men strong in their own ways, and still able to connect with and it was easy to see why they would be together.
Tyler’s character was so emotional for me, being able to follow along as he explained what all had happened to him, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. Thankfully things did end up working out, but I just wanted to hug him and hold him close because of everything.
Overall, a great addition to the series, and I will also add that although this is part of the Circles series, it can be read as a standalone. While it does mention the previous book in the series, it’s done in a way that shows it was just the introduction between the two characters.

I just love this series. "Bait" is book 5 in the Circle Series. We meet Tyler McCall and FBI Agent Linden Bourne in "Gone Away" book 4 in the series. Tyler is Mason's close friend and Linden is the agent sent in to rescue Mason, Riece and Tyler. In "Bait" Tyler is the only suspect in two murders who Linden has to go question. Linden's gets to Tyler's in the middle of a snow storm and after questioning Tyler, Linden realizes Tyler's not a suspect but he could be the next victim, especially since they're snowed in in the middle of nowhere. Action, drama and romance what more could you ask for, 4.5 stars. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

A mystery in the snow with a building romance, what is not to love! This is my 1st novel from this author and I greatly enjoyed this story. I know that some of the secondary characters where the MC in the previous books, but its not necessarily needed to read this book. This book kept me entertained till the end, I enjoyed the drama/action as Tyler/Linden attempt to outwit the killer. I was surprised of the killer, I had my guess on somebody closer to the MC.

I love romance sprinkled into a mystery/thriller novel and when you add that to an extremely well written M/M novel, you have the makings of a fantastic story. Add in an unexpected snow storm that strands the two main characters in a lodge by themselves.....and then throw in the knowledge that they are NOT by themselves after all and you have a book that was so good, I started reading it and didn't stop till I was finished.
This is a book I highly recommend to everyone.

I really liked this very fast-paced story. It was very interesting and I liked the premise of a second chance and not judging based on what you heard. I love stories with agents, so this was great. I thought Linden and Tyler were both likable and I want to know more about them. I wish it was a longer story. I would totally recommend this book. Now I need to read the rest of the series!

This was really good. I enjoyed the characters.. it had mystery, intrique, love, sadness and hard times.. i loved how he had to come back from the scandal of teacher/student.. this was all fun to read and i loved it. i am so glad i got to review it
