Rate this book

Cute short book where Bach combines flying with thoughts of philosophical reality. I really like this. Have read most of Bach's books. This one is based on the idea of hypnotism = suggestion accepted. I taught philosophy and part of that is the study of reality. I believe that reality is mental - it explains so much of what ESP is. There is no physical reality; we are just programmed to see reality as physical
I have seen hypnotists work and know that people can be hypnotized to see a different reality. He relates own experiences in this book.
"How do we become part of any culture, any form of life, save by accepting its suggestions to be our truth?"
"Suggestions, they're not true until we give our consent, until we accept" We pattern our life on those suggestions we accept. He also discusses the Law of Attraction - we attract to ourselves those things that we need. "Whatever we hold in our thought comes true in our experience (that's a suggestion).
It is a thought provoking book.

“Çekim yasası: Düşüncelerimizde ne barındırırsak, deneyimlerimizde onu yaşarız.”

Evrene pozitif mesaj gönder her şey güzel olsun, iyi düşün iyi olsun, enerji yolla gelsin şeklindeki “secret” zırvalıklarını sevmememe rağmen bu kitap bende gerçek anlamda olumlu hisler uyandırdı.

It is not that the book is not good. It really doesn't have a story to start with. Again, it is just a personal view on life, the meaning of leaving, hypnotism as a series of suggestions and the law of attraction. I hoped that Maria would show up later in the story, to play a significant role in the book, but she just played her part on the good part of the book, the start. It should have been entitled Hypnotizing Jamie, the protagonist pilot who at first didn’t believe in fate and the reason behind coincidences but in the end was the one who “figured out” life’s riddles. Such is very much reflective of Bach’s Jonathan Livingston Seagull – figuring things by himself and ignoring others.

Richard Bach's books always have a strong influence on me.
It's silly to think that people really are able to walk through the walls, but when reading this man's books, I believe that they can.
"Hypnotizing Maria" reminded me of my favourite "Illusions".
I loved the book. As always, Richard Bach made me rethink the world and how I see it, he made me rethink my own attitude to everything and made me to want to change and become a better person.
The plot, the language are very simple. But their simplicity is compencated by the deep thought which tries to reach a reader from the sky, where Richard's heroes are living.
I think people like me will like this book - romantic people, dreamers. People who like to analyse and who are rather critical probably will not like the book.

Brilliant start, brilliant finish, and not much in the middle--and most of this fortunately small book is middle. I should preface this by saying that I hate bashing this man. Illusions still stands as one of my favorite spiritual gems in small packages (along with The Education of Oversoul Seven by Jane Roberts, Sati by Christopher Pike, and God on a Harley by Joan Brady) and his The Bridge Across Forever informed my idea of love and soulmates for years--and yes, I probably am one of the people who was crushed to know that Richard and Leslie split, but I don't think that, errr, bitterness is leading me to write a less than stellar review. And this is less than stellar, and not because I don't buy the material. I actually believe in a lot of the same things as what is being told here. But the way it's told, the total lack of Bach's former mystical magic, and the fact that this hero never engaged me at all in the middle parts, makes it a disappointment. And it didn't have to be. The end had me in tears, so he clearly still has the magic. The start was tense and I cared about what happened. But the rest? No, just no.

Richard Bach "Hipnotizuoti Mariją" ' tai trečioji mano perskaityta rašytojo, parašiusio "Džonatanas Livingstaunas žuvėdra", knyga. Kitaip nei anksčiau skaitytos "Víena" ir "Iliuzijos", "Hipnotizuoti Mariją" nepaliko to gero ir šviesaus jausmo, kurio viliausi. "Nuvylei mane, Richardai" - užvertusi paskutinį puslapį pagalvojau, kadangi Richard Bach "Víena" yra viena visų laikų mylimiausių knygų, o ir "Iliuzijos" sužavėjo.

"Hipnotizuoti Mariją" prasideda nuo piloto Džeimio padedančio kitame lėktuve esančiai moteriai nutupdyti lėktuvą, kadangi jos vyras pilotas prarado sąmonę, o galbūt net mirė. Jam sėkmingai pavyksta įtikinti Mariją, kad ši sugebės nutupdyti lėktuvą, nors niekad nėra to dariusi.

Richard Bach is, for many, a purveyor of tales that require some getting used to. His most famous tales from earlier days, such as Jonathan Livingston Seagull and one of my personal favorites Illusions, are well-written and engaging. Later stories from The Ferret Chronicles are absolute delights. Somewhere in the course of things from there to here, Bach seems to have adopted a kind of stream-of-consciousness approach that, in several places, abandons any sense of linguistic construct or common grammar. Call me stodgy, but I'd really rather he hadn't.

The tale itself is a story told in other Bach books, with a slightly different hook. Throughout Bach's literary contributions is the story of the lead character undergoing psychic, philosophical, spiritual change, and as a result, the lead character thus experiences a change in his life in a most fundamental fashion. It is a retelling of a description of Zen enlightenment: Before enlightenment, we are bound to this world; during enlightenment, we have almost no connection to this world; after enlightenment, we are back in this world... except walking a few inches above the ground.

I don't believe it to be a spoiler if I tell that our main character, Jamie, goes through a similar sort of enlightenment; from the blurb on the back of the book, we read that this enlightenment takes the form of realizing what hypnosis is, and how it works. The story takes us through the steps needed to understand Jaime's deeper and more philosophical discoveries as he takes this idea of hypnosis and extends it quite literally into every facet of life.

There is much to praise in this book; it's worth your time. I just wish that Bach hadn't been quite so quick to abandon linearity of sentence structure as he strove to set us free from false linearity of thought. Apart from this vaguely irritating artistic license, the concepts presented are quite interesting indeed. After nearly forty years, the seagull returns to explain it all in a slightly different way -- and it's a story that we really don't get tired of.

The Matrix meets Reiki meets Law of Attraction meets The Secret. Or something like that. I was expecting a Richard Bach-ish book, but this one isn't so. The language is very different, the construction is often weird, and the punctuation is sparse; almost unlike Richard Bach. Perhaps he was trying something new; it didn't work for me. There's fair warning that it is a "teaching fable"

The book is mentioning that we live as how we think and how we feel. Mostly that is true and a working principle. So we need to care about the ideas we have and welcome what life gives us. We can not change the world with external interventions. The way to make the world good is to make us good.

this was my third Richard Bach book and i’ve always enjoyed reading his work, but this one fell completely flat for me. it started out with promise and just got progressively worse. in the end, i had a difficult time just getting through the short 160 pages.

the first few pages of the book were extremely intense. Jamie Forbes is out on an uneventful solo flight when he finds a woman panicking because her husband has lost consciousness mid-flight. Jamie, an experienced flight instructor, calmly walks her through the procedures to make a safe and graceful landing at a nearby airstrip. having completed his good samaritan-like duties, he goes on to complete his flight and mostly forgets about the encounter. like i said, intense.

Jamie learns later that the woman, named Maria, is claiming that a man hypnotized her and led her to safety. this leads Jamie on a personal introspective journey of recollection and soul searching, in which he is trying to understand and bring to life the concept of manifesting your own destiny. and this is where the book flopped. hard.

what started off as a book with amazing potential turned into a book you might find in the self-help section that was preaching the ways of self realization. the preaching portions of the book didn’t really tie into the plot and it left the book feeling like a rough draft, with some heavy stream of consciousness type stuff. it would gain some steam and then lose it altogether, wandering through some fairly thoughtful commentary and then plowing back into the story. though it did raise some really great questions, the editorial work just didn’t pull it all together and it ended up feeing like a bunch of random ideas that never tied together.

on the positive side, the book, much like Bach’s other books, was thought provoking. as for his other books, i still love Jonathan Livingston Seagull and would steer people toward that title instead of Hypnotizing Maria. good potential, but a dud this round for me.

Kendimize ördüğümüz bütün görünmez duvarların, aslında aşılabileceğine dair güzel örnekler içeren bir kitaptı Richard Bach 'a ait Hipnozcu kitabı.

Hipnozcu (RichardBach)

The premise of this book is thought provoking, but what has the potential to be an exciting journey of discovery simply disappoints. The books begins with an exciting rescue by a competent hero. The chapters that follow are more like journal entries examining how individuals construct reality. The stream of consciousness approach had me skipping complete paragraphs hoping to get to the good part.

Hypnotizing Maria, is another masterpiece of Richard Bach. I cannot put enough praise on this book or the message that all his books leave you with. Hypnotism is simple being given a suggestion and accepting it. This book makes you take a look at yourself and think about how many times you have thought about accepting or not accepting a suggesting.
This is a must read, there will be no reason to put this book down it is so beautifully written.

Funny, I was thinking I needed a hypnotist to help me change my life. This book unravels my delusions. I am a hypnotist already, and I am no amateur! What a delightful find. I am putting its energy into immediate use. Now I can't wait to create more fulfillingly!

Another insightful book by Bach, this short, quick read explains our perceptions through hypnotism. Challenging our own perceptions of what is real, Bach reminds us that at the end of the day, it's what suggestions we choose to believe that define how we see the world.

This book was pretty unique. It’s a short, quick read. I picked this up to read quickly while I waited for another book to arrive in the mail and it ended up being something refreshing and totally unexpected .

The grammar is poor in this book. Some parts were hard to follow, however, I was able to understand a very big concept told through the eyes of a pilot/flight instructor ...The Law of Attraction...the idea that we create the life we live based on the thoughts we choose to accept as true. The story calls this hypnosis . It explain that we actually hypnotize ourselves to believe things are true and those things manifest into something positive or negative , it just depends what we choose to believe. The book actually breaks this down in a sort of quantum physics type of way .

Very cool concept ! I recommend this for a quick read because the story was good and the self improvement element, even better . There are no coincidences in life, everything happens for a reason. I must have been meant to read this since my book is late in the mail ! 😆

This book has appeared to me in the midst of my unconditional love project and reinforced everything I was already coming to believe. It says the same things I’ve heard many times, but in a different way that feels like a whole new approach to it has been opened.

The micro-version is: everything we believe and everything anyone has ever told us, it’s all suggestions that we accept and hypnotize ourselves further with, or reject and de-program in ourselves. So pick the good stuff, create consciously, dispute all negative thoughts immediately and replace them with what you want. Focus on what you want and you will create it.

But it’s a short book. Don’t take the summary, read it (again). It feels so good.

Note to self: this is the book with the flight instructor who helps the lady whose husband is unconscious land her plane while flying beside her, and 30 years before he was hypnotized and believed he was in a room made of stone walls with no way out.

'Hypnotizing Maria' is a short novel that tells the tale of Jamie Forbes, a pilot instructor who begins to understand the working of hypnosis. It all begins with Jamie Forbes helping Maria, wife of a pilot, to land a plane by herself as her husband falls ill mid-flight. Struck by this incident and a past memory of being hypnotized, Jamie begins a quest to find out the meaning of reality and the power of hypnosis. He does all this while also dwelling on some in-depth philosophical ideas.
The book is very interesting in its presentation. The flow between the story and theory is so smooth that a reader hardly ever notices it. However, there are some parts in the book that tend to drag on and kind of bore a person. But, that is just my personal opinion. The book does prove itself to be fascinating for those refueling their mental juices.

I loved this simple little book. I bought copies for like-minded friends, who also appreciated it.

This is one of those books about how when you change the way you look at things, the things you're looking at change. That principle is cleverly woven into a fictional story. Kind of like the way ancient, teachers have used parables to make the deep truths they were teaching accessible to their students. Of course, more modern teachers have done this, too.

I admire Bach's writings, even though I may strongly disagree with some of his premises.

I don't understand the Dates read portion here, so I'm skipping it. It took me two days to read. I guess some people like to keep track of such things. I don't bother.
