Aeden Fitzpatrick has been annoyed by his sister's best friend for as long as he could remember. She is snooty and a know it all, and he just doesn't like her that much. Of course, it doesn't keep him from fantasizing about her, or getting irrationally angry because she dates so many men. That all changes the night of his sister's wedding. One night and he is hooked. But Wendy has obligations so he will just have to wait.
She never expected love.
Wendy has always assumed she would never fall in love. She had made sure to date the kind of men who knew the score. Her childhood had proven to her that she was unloveable and she refused to take that from a man. Aeden changes all of that in one long, amazing night. Now, six months later, she's not sure what will happen, but she knows she's in love.
A twisted obsession
Wendy returns to find out she is a local celebrity but she could care less. All she wants is to return to work and figure out what is going on with Aeden. Their courtship isn't without it's bumps in the road. Their chemistry in bed doesn't help deal with their conflicting personalities. But when someone starts to stalk Wendy, Aeden realizes that he doesn't want to live without her in his life. When the stalking turns sinister, the lovers must fight for everything they hold dear...including their lives.
You just can not go wrong with a Melissa Schroeder book. I love the storyline, emotion, relationship between friends and family and the twist and turns that it brings to the reader.
Aeden has been annoyed by his sisters best friend for years. She spends more time with his family than her own. Over the years he gets irrational with her because he's watched her date so many men. Which turned into fantasizing about her. One night at his sister's wedding everything changed.
Six months after her friends wedding Wendy returns from her work in Africa. The last time she saw Aeden he changed everything she grew up believing. She never felt worthy, loveable or enough. Now she was back and would have to face him and her feelings.
While Wendy and Aeden are trying to get past their conflicting personalities their chemistry seems to be spot on. She thinks this will be their only obstacle until something bigger comes between them. Aeden just wants to protect her while Wendy is a very independent woman. This adds to the stress they have been facing and may be what will tear them apart.
Another outstanding series from Schroeder! If you are a true fan you will know Wendy and Aeden from the Santini series. Wendy's BFF is Kaitlyn, Aeden's sister who recently married Brando Santini, they are a very close group. Aeden is a firefighter along with most of his brothers except for Declan, the chef. Wendy was raised in a wealthy highly dysfunctional family and considers the Fitzpatrick clan her own. Something has always zinged between Aeden and Wendy so they finally did something about it. These two are one of my favorite couples. Love how Schroeder creates spinoffs, hopefully we get more Fitzpatricks soon and maybe the O'Reilly group too. So many stories! My copy was given by the author and I have voluntarily written a review.
Honestly, it’s been a long time since I have read a book by Melissa Schroeder and it looks like I have been missing out completely. At Last is the first book in a brand new series and one I just simply couldn’t put down.
Aeden Fitzpatrick has had a thing for his sister’s best friend, Wendy, for a long time but was really confused on what it was. All he knew was that he hated seeing her date other guys. On the night of his sister’s wedding they share more than a kiss but Aeden has no idea where he stands with her since she is just about as good at relationships as he is, which is not at all. All Aeden knows is that he wants to explore where it will go but Wendy is headed to Africa for 6 months. When she returns will she finally be his?
Wendy was half in love with Aeden before she left for Africa and while she was gone they spoke…just not about what would happen when she returned. After all they put their relationship on hold and have no idea where it will go. When Aeden shows up after his shift at the firehouse she knows then they are picking up where they left off. It’s only been a week and everything is going well until a threatening note is found on her car. Wendy has no idea who it could be from but Aeden is not leaving her side until this person is caught. The days are long and the nights steamy but Aeden is here to stay.
At Last was a sweet romantic read. I have always loved stories about big families and them finding their HEA. The story starts off with Aeden rushing to see if Wendy feels what he felt after their night together after they’ve been on hold until she returned which I found cute. The only thing that really bothered me was the simple fact that I had no idea what happened that night. I would have liked a little more background and maybe some details even if it was just simple glimpses into their memories.
Aeden was sweet, caring, and so thoughtful. If Wendy wanted nothing to do with him I would have gladly taken him off her hands in a heartbeat. Wendy was a little bit harder to read at first because of her past. Her parents weren’t the loving and caring type so she didn’t really have anyone to depend on but herself so she was convinced she didn’t deserve a HEA. But once she started to see how Aeden really felt I could see her character starting to open up little by little and let him in a little more. Their interactions and the time they spent together really showed how well they were matched and in the end I knew she was going to get him so I started rooting for them.
At Last wasn’t overly dramatic and really did focus on the relationship of this couple which was a plus. I did enjoy the whole stalker plot and trying to guess who it was and I have to say it wasn’t who I was expecting at all. I really did love At Last and enjoyed every single one of the characters. This family were close and has me already anticipating the next book in this series. In fact before I was even done I was on Goodreads looking for the next book in the series to be added to my list but sadly there was no info on it at this time. I might have not read Ms. Schroeder in a while but now I will be stalking her book information more closely. Trust me you won’t want to miss At Last!
If you’re a fan of The Santinis, you’ll definitely want to read this. We first met Aedan and Wendy in “One Night with a Santini.” Aedan is Kaitlin’s big brother and Wendy’s her BFF. Of course, they’ve known each other forever, but they’ve always seemed to get on one another’s last nerve. That is until right before Wendy leaves for a 6-month nursing mission to Africa. Then things get really hot and heavy with the promise of more when she comes home. And, boy, there’s definitely going to be more.
Aedan and Wendy have never been one for lasting relationships. Wendy’s got family issues and Aedan’s been hurt in the past from trusting the wrong person. What they do have is a lot of chemistry so when they decide to give being a couple a go, they want to do so on the down low. Of course, you can’t really keep anything secret from a family as close as the Fitzpatricks. But it’s fun that they thought they could try.
There’s a lot of feels in this one with an interfering family and such strong emotions and steamy passion, but there’s also some unexpected drama when Wendy’s media exposure draws the wrong kind of attention. It brings an element of excitement to what is already an entertaining tale and will keep your attention throughout this engaging and appealing love story. As with the Santinis, the Fitzpatricks are a strong, close-knit family with whom you want to get to know more about each of its members. I have some definite ideas of whose story may be next. Can’t wait to find out if I’m right. 😉
The start to another outstanding series from Melissa Schroeder. We met Wendy and Aeden in the Santini series. Aeden's sister who recently married Brando Santini just happens to be Wendy’s best friend. At the wedding Aeden’s finds out that Wendy is going to Africa for a six month contract to work as a nurse. This book picks up when she gets home. Wendy has been a part of the Fitzpatrick family practically her whole life and both she and Aeden have been fighting their feelings for each other. While they are working through their feelings for each other and they are trying to resume their relationship, Wendy is threatened. All Aeden wants to protect her however she does not want to give up their independence. Will they be able to get past this hurdle in their brand new relationship before something bad happens? I love that Melissa Schroeder’s books always include strong family ties and At Last is no different. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a romantic HEA with a touch of suspense. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Wendy is snarky and sassy. A woman who gives a bit of her heart in everything she does. However her dysfunctional upbringing has left her view of relationships hollow. As an honorary member of the Fitzpatrick's, Wendy learned what having a real family is like. Aeden is cocky and all alpha. A man who daily puts his life on the line to others safe. He too has an different view when it comes to relationships. He's devoted to his friends and family. Aeden and Wendy have been building a long burning tension for years. At her best friends wedding it becomes known she's leaving for six months. In a moment of real life, prior thoughts and opinions were changed in the blink of an eye. One night left a never ending memory, gracing each other's thoughts daily. Wendy and Aeden are the definition of two people that were meant to be together. Her independence and his cockiness have created a sexual tension that is explosive. Their interactions with each other bring out the best of both of their personalities. Aeden and Wendy are both strong characters with charisma and depth. They complement each other in the best ways. Melissa Schroeder’s AT LAST is sassy and sexy. The Fitzpatricks are going to give the Santinis competition.
This is a good start to another spinoff series from the Santinis. Kaitlin Fitzpatrick is married to Brando Santinis and her brother Aeden is a firefighter from the large and loving Fitzpatrick family. Wendy is a good friend of Kaitlin's and a nurse. Aeden realizes that all the fighting she did with Aeden was a type of foreplay. They are keeping their relationship quiet, except all the family knows!
Wendy also has some hidden angst because of her upbringing. Her wealthy family doesn't understand her and she can't abide being near them. The Fitzpatricks are family enough for her. Even when she turns out to be in danger, they are there to help and protect.
I liked this one, but do wish that we would have had more with Wendy's background. Yes we know she is on the outs with her family and a broad reason why, but I would have loved to see a more detailed reason, especially as it brought up hiccups between her and Aeden.
I loved that both of them so wanted the relationship, but were worried. Worried if they were good enough for the other and what the family would say. Glad that they worked things out because Wendy was already family, now it will be a more formal inclusion.
I enjoyed reading this book very much, The story line is well written and the characters have unique chemistry and wonderful interactions. Aeden and Wendy are both strong, independent people. One night changes things! Add in some mystery and this is a fantastic read. Don't miss out!
I received a copy of this book and chose to review it.
A quick steamy read that picks up from prequel "The Lost Night." The characters connected instantly and the story flowed as Aeden and Wendy reconnect and find out if a relationship is will work between them. Melissa Schroeder pens a fantastic quick read filled with love, humor and suspense into another great story!
Wendy is Kaitlin's best friend. She has had a crush on her brother Aeden for forever. She has just gotten back from Africa after 6 months and is freaking out about seeing him again. Aeden can't wait to see Wendy again. He knows he has to take it slow with her. She has received some threatening letters. She has a stalker. Can they figure out who it is before she gets hurt?
Wendy and Aidan have known each other for a long time, but a six month trip to Africa for Wendy provides the catalyst for a kiss, oh, what a kiss, and one night together. But where do things sit when Wendy returns? This story was absolute, Melissa Schroeder-style, perfection; with big family dynamics and exciting action, plus oh so steamy romance. A fantastic read.
Friends to lovers, found family, and longing from afar, all wrapped up in one! These two were mature in their approach to their attraction, smart when managing their lives, and only slightly resistant to owning up to their feelings. They got there eventually, and proved to everyone that they knew what they were doing <3
Author Melissa Schroeder has once again created another spin-off series that readers will fall in love with. I could not wait to read At Last, book 1 in The Fitzpatricks series after meeting the characters in Brando and Kaitlin's story. I just wanted to say it was totally worth the wait. I loved Aeden and Wendy's story so much! These two had so much chemistry and I loved that they knew each other so well. I liked that Wendy was already an honorary member of the Fitzpatrick's family thanks to her friendship with Aeden' sister, Kaitlin and I really enjoyed the interaction between all of them. It was fun watching them get "outed" as a couple as the entire family had their suspicions about their true relationship. Aeden was all alpha male in a caring and protective way and I loved Wendy's sassiness and independence and she was able to stand up to Aeden when he was out of line. The story flowed seamlessly with just the right amount of sexiness, suspense and family. What a great beginning to a new series and I cannot wait to read the next one
Love. Friendship. Distance... Not really a good combination, but sometimes you just have to make it work. 6 months apart... Wendy was glad to be back home but unsure about what would happen when she saw Aeden again... It was even more uncertain when he didn't show up at the airport on her return. But she didn't let her disappointment show. Aeden was happy Wendy's time away was over. He took time off to spend with her so they can work on a relationship. He was determined to make things work. He was determined to find a way to keep Wendy in his life, but he didn't want it to affect his relationship with his family. This new family/storyline was begun great. It brings together the Santini & Fitzpatricks families. It brings the happiness that has always been in the family connections within the Santinis & the strength & togetherness that the Fitzpatricks show. This is going to be a great series considering how fabulous the start was!
a wonderful addition to the Santini world! We get to see Brando and Kaitlin again but most importantly we finally see why there've been so many fireworks between Wendy and Aeden. Aeden is HOT and as with all hot book guys I claim him for myself but the star of this story is Wendy, she is awesome. Wendy is an intelligent, generous, strong and snarky heroine...my absolute favorite female type and no matter what when crisis hits she's right there on target and on point and in complete control. An awesome start to the Fitzpatrick family!
Fabulous start to this new series. Thrilling plot line accompanies sassy dialogue, great characters, old and new, and a lovely happy ever after. Wendy and Aeden just sizzled on the pages. As always, the family element is forefront to all the military series and spin offs and At Last had all that and more. The Fitzgerald's family just pull you in and make you want to be part of their world forever, just brilliant story telling. Another smash and can't wait to see who falls next, however I do have my suspicions!! Loved it.
Wendy and Aeden were introduced to us in the last Santini book and the brother and best friend of the bride Kaitlin, the only female Fitzpatrick child. Wendy is estranged from her family and has been a part of the Fitzpatrick family for years. Aeden has had a crush on her for years, but it wasn't until she was leaving the country for six months did he act upon it. This was a great series spin off / starter. It will be nice to revisit with some of the Santini's in this new series. The intrigue a family of firefighters and chefs can bring will be fun to read.
At Last is a feel good friends to lovers romance that made my heart sing. Passion expresses itself in odd ways and as they were growing up Aeden fought with his sisters best friend Wendy at every turn. The night of his sister’s wedding the passion turned grown up. Then she left to work in Africa for six months. Now she is back and they are going to explore that together. If their families, a stalker and each other don’t get in their way. A fun sweet read.
Wonderful beginning of the new Fitzgerald series. The Fitzgerald's are firefighters and the first book is about Aeden the eldest son and his relationship with Wendy a nurse that works with a charity that took here to Africa for six months. We seethe development of their relationship and an outside foe that is stalking Wendy .
An enjoyable, quick and easy read. With two really likable main characters. A few hot moments and a little sprinkling of suspense that kept me hooked especially during the last couple of chapters and I'm definitely excited to read more from the Fitzpatrick family in the future. I would also recommend this story to others especially if you enjoy this authors Santini series.
Another great read by Melissa. Aeden & Wendy are a charismatic pair who I couldn't wait to meet in their own story after meeting them in Brando Santini's book. A well written fast paced novel that brings together a wonderful new set of characters to enjoy and some old favourites
