Clap is a book where we all clap along because sometimes a book has a beat like a song! This fun twist on a call and response picture book has kids clapping their way through the story. Nobody sits still while enjoying Ian Aurora's rowdy clapping rhymes, but the fun illustrations from Natalia Moore will still keep all eyes on the book. Pick up Clap to read aloud and get ready for things to get a little loud!
Get your clapping hands out because there is a LOT of clapping in this book. My kids thought it was fun, although my son is too little to get the concept of clapping a specific number of times. But it’s a good choice for preschoolers & kindergarteners. I’d like to try it in a story time to see how well it scales up.
Full disclosure: I received a free copy of the book from the publisher at ALA-Midwinter2019. No strings attached, other than scanning my badge, though!
In this interactive book, the narrator (a little boy) asks the reader to clap - first while counting their claps (1-10), and then by clapping quietly, and loudly, etc…
Spoiler: It is a rehearsal to clap for the narrator’s reading skills.
Good for toddlers and preschoolers looking for interactive, active reads.
This great read aloud will have children, clapping, rhyming and counting. Simple bright illustrations fill the pages and readers will definitely have to pause for the applause. A fun book that will be enjoyed by ages four to six.
