Anne Booth always wanted to be a children’s writer, but has also cleared tables in a restaurant, sold books, been a tour guide at a haunted medieval hospital, taught English in Italy, and organized arts and crafts in a nursing home, among other things. It is the 21st December and Lucy is worried about Christmas. Gran is coming to stay and will take Lucy’s room after an operation. Dad has friends coming to stay from Australia and Lucy has to sleep downstairs with a girl she doesn’t know…

Then Lucy finds an injured baby rabbit. Lucy would much rather look after the rabbit than make friends with the girl coming to visit. There is a previous Lucy adventure – “Lucy’s Secret Reindeer,” and, even though my daughter hadn’t read that earlier book, this one made perfect sense without having read the first Lucy adventure. In the first book Lucy had seen Father Christmas and now has a magic snow globe and some fairy dust to help her look after the baby rabbit. Can she enjoy Christmas with strangers in the house and can she reunite the rabbit with his family?

This is a lovely, magical Christmas story for children. With 138 pages, eleven short chapters and black and white illustrations, this is a perfect book for children aged approx 6+. It has a pretty cover, with lots of Christmas glitter and sparkles and is a lovely story which children will enjoy. As well as the magical aspect of the storyline, there is the more realistic story that many children will understand – visitors at Christmas that they may not know very well for example. Obviously, this book will also have extra appeal for animal lovers.

At the end of the book there are some extra activity pages – how to make a snow globe, what to do if you find an injured animal and an introduction to the earlier book. My eight year old daughter really enjoyed this lovely, festive story. It is a very enjoyable chapter book, with a lovely sentiment about caring, family and Christmas.

My daughter enjoyed this book.

It’s set at Christmas time (she received it for Christmas & read it & then asked to read it together) so it felt odd reading about the magic of Christmas during February.

Lucy finds an injured rabbit & takes it home to look after it. Her Gran runs a wildlife rescue centre so she knows about caring for animals. Lucy also has the advantage of having a magic snow globe that helps her to make her rabbit better & make some friends.

I recieved this book for Christmas around the time it came out, maybe the following year, and I've re-read it every Christmastime since then it's simply tradition, despite the fact I am now going on 16. This is a wonderful children's book that I can't imagine a Christmas without. The magic of Christmas is something so brilliant that I just love seeing in children's books, I loved all and every christmas book I've ever read and this was one at the top of the list.
