Trinity

If love were a battleground, then we waged a war upon it.

We’d been best friends for years, and then we were wayward lovers. It was meant to just be an itch to scratch—some harmless fun. But once he had me under his thumb, tied in his binds, he became my undoing.
These days, he consumes my thoughts. I’m powerless under his touch.
He makes me ignore the guilt from my past that consumes me when I don’t deserve to forget. With him, I am raw and exposed, yet he continues to move closer to me.
He’s willing to fight, but my armour has been dented enough.

Theo

Secrets have the power to make or break you—mine have the power to do both.

After being lied to by my own family, I know the power of deception. Now, I’m afraid that withholding the truth will be my ruin.
Especially when all my secrets are attached to her.
She is my muse. My salvation. The reason my past didn’t destroy me.
She makes me feel. She makes me want. She’s the gasoline to my fire.
All’s fair in love and war.
For us, it’s time to strike the match.

Last year a friend of mine recommended a new author to me; M.R. Field. I read her books Fragments and Splinters within a few days, and I loved both of them. I was happy to hear the author was working on a new book; Fractures. This book tells the story of Trinity and Theo – who we’ve met in the previous books – and their road to happiness.
“Back room,” he seethes. “No talking. I want you on your desk. Take off your skirt.” “Um, hello to you,” I say sarcastically, as I put my hand on my hip. “What has gotten into you?”

Trinity is a feisty, strong woman. She owns her own store where she designs, makes and sells wedding and formal dresses with an edge. Trinity is very good at what she does, so it’s not a surprise she has a waiting list and she doesn’t accept everybody as a client. For as long as she has known Theo, Trinity has had feelings for him. Feelings she didn’t understand at first, and now Trinity doesn’t think she deserves him. But staying away from Theo isn’t possible.
“I’d thought it was no strings. Did we even have that conversation all those months ago? Seems that my vagina made up its own mind. It wants more. But it isn’t just that; I want to hang out more like we used to. I’m drawn to him, and I wish I could stop it.”

Theo is a successful architect and he loves what he’s doing. His childhood hasn’t been easy, his mother died when he was young, leaving him behind with a cold and distant father. Trinity is a fixture in Theo’s life since his early teens, he has always had feelings for her but he doesn’t want to lose her and her friendship. So being just friends it is, until it isn’t working anymore.
“For the past few months, I’ve been chasing after my dream. A dream that has claws. A dream that holds silent tears. A dream that melts under my fingertips and against my binds. Trinity. The only woman I can love and hate in one breath.”

Since the day they met as young teens, Theo and Trinity have been friends, they understand each other and care deeply of the other. But both have their reasons to keep their relationship as ‘just friends’. When Fractures starts, the couple has already given into the pull that has been there for years, but it’s just physical; raw and explosive. Both Theo and Trinity must learn to accept events from their pasts, to be able to move forward. Not only for them as a couple, but also for them as individuals.

Fractures is a beautiful story about friends who deserve to be so much more than that. It’s very clear from the beginning Trinity and Theo belong together, all they have to do is let go of their pasts. But letting go of the past is hard; old wounds must be re-opened and truths have to be learned. Fractures is a heartwarming book; it’s a simple love story of two friends who can’t life without each other. There are no crazy ex-partners and over-the-top situations; this book doesn’t need it. Theo, Trinity and the beautiful writing of M.R. Field is enough.
“You are the map on my skin, and the journey that I want to take for the rest of my life.”

I love Fractures, I give the story of Theo and Trinity 5 stars.

Fractures is the third book in the Running on Empty series, but all can be read as standalones. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series but really looked forward to reading Trinity's story and I was not disappointed. Right from the first chapter my heart was stolen by Trinity. Theo and Trinity's relationship has always been volatile. They have been friends, enemies, and lovers but never anything tame.

"Our connection simmers between us. We cling to and thrive on the seductive torture. For years, we’ve been caught up in an evocative dance, our friendship being the common thread that holds us together. Our emotions are too volatile."

Both Trinity and Theo know that they are meant to be together, but both also need to conquer demons from their past first. Theo is an architect but is secretly a graphic novelist who sketches what he can't express. His drawings read like a love letter to the one who seems to him to be out of reach.

"I fetch the sketchpad from my desk and begin to draw a story that has been unfurling in my mind. As the ink moves into shapes and edges, I begin the process of apologizing for the bullshit of my past whilst begging for her to forgive me. Each scene is a canvas so filled with hope. With every painful thought I launch across the page, I hope to bring her back to me. Back before his poison wrecked me."

I love the stories in this series. They are beautiful, engaging, angsty, character driven stories that drew me in until I was enmeshed in these character's lives. I adore getting caught up in the drama, heartbreak, friendship and love.

"I stroke her face to centre her. “There is beauty in pain. I see beauty through that pain that shines through you. Give me your fire, your anger—give it all to me. You’re allowed to grieve. You’re allowed to feel. Let me see you. All of you."

I bought this book solely because of the cover. I had not read the two previous books in the series at the time and did not even read the blurb... I was just captivated by the covers beauty. Then I started from the top with Fragments and Splinters and it became imparative to read Fractures as well.

Now I have finished it and I am searching high and low for the next installment but it. is. not. there... Let me tell you this - the cover did NOT disappoint...

I loved this second chance story. The push and pull between Trinity and Theo. The heartache. The banter between friends. The strength AND the weakness - or should I say percieved weakness. The HEA!!! I was in tears and five minutes later laughing out loud. My family is seriuosly concerned for my well being...

I have NO WORDS!!! I just want the next book NOW!!! Loved it, loved it, loved it!

“If we make it real, it is just as easy to lose it all. Instead, it’s easier to hide behind the smokescreen and under the sheets.”

Fractures is the story of Trinity and Theo; two individuals who have been through some tragic circumstances in their past. Best friends since high school, they have always been hesitant to cross the line with each other. When they start adding benefits to their friendship, will they be able to move on from the physical?

“Trinity. The only woman I can love and hate in one breath. Who caught my attention from the moment I met her.”

Trinity is hiding. She hides from her emotions, and from those closest to her. In the past, she has drown herself in pointless hookups and booze. Now, she uses Theo to forget her guilt, and refuses to confront her feelings for him. Until she faces her demons head on, she won’t be able to see what is right in front of her.

“Our arrangement is complicated. We started in a mad rush of long-awaited passion but have yet to give ourselves a label.”

Theo has never felt wanted. Lied to, betrayed, Trinity is the only one he can turn to. Even with his best friend by his side, he still struggles with secrets and opening up about his past. He wants so much more with Trinity, but he is afraid she won’t be able to see past his revelations.

It was interesting how Trinity and Theo’s relationship was revealed. We start in the middle, and then we are slowly shown their history and the issues they have encountered. There were some very poignant moments between the characters and their families. This is a book about the true meaning of family as much as it is a romance between friends.

There was some beautiful symbolism in the story that I absolutely loved. I adored the depictions of Theo and his art and talent. His creations came alive on the page. Both of the characters were so vibrant and creative. I could feel their connection while reading, and was definitely rooting for them to take the next step.

This was the first book by MR Field I read, and at times I did feel a bit lost. I will say that this book made me want to go back and read more about the other characters. Overall, enjoyable friends to lovers romance, which proves love can withstand the test of time and circumstances.

“Wherever this journey takes us, you are always a part of me.”

I loved this book from the moments I saw the cover for this book and read the blurb for it. Fractures were a beautiful story about love and friends becoming more then just friends. The writing style of this story was excellently done with the reader being able to feel the emotions that the characters were feeling throughout the book.

I loved the hero of the story Theo and felt that he was such a tough character that had endured a lot of hardships in his life due to the family secrets that kept were kept to him from a young age. The way that his father as a child treated him very coldly and with no love is truly heart breaking, but I loved seeing Theo working through all the pain to move on with his life.

Trinity was such a feisty character that had me laughing so many times throughout the book. She has suffered a lot of lost and guilt throughout and life, which caused me to tear up at times when she is suffering. I adored the way that she stuck up for her friends and she was always caring towards to them. Trinity was such a great character that I adored reading so much.

Fractures were friends to lovers read that had a lot of twists throughout it. I don’t want to give to many spoilers about it, but the love that the two main characters Theo and Trinity have for each other is obvious from the start. There are a lot of hot and sexy moments throughout the book.

Overall, I loved this story and found that I couldn’t put it down once I started reading it. I loved the characters within the story and the secondary characters throughout the book. This was the first book by M.R. Field that I have read and I absolutely loved her writing. I found the way that she was able to write a lot of emotions throughout the book and create an intriguing story that creates such an enjoyable read. I know now that I will be reading more books by this author and cant wait to read more about the other characters in the series.

Fractures is the third story in the "Running on Empty" series by the amazing M.R. Field. Each story's writing is eloquent and addictive and Fractures is no different. A friends-to-lovers roller-coaster ride, told through dual points of view, creates a full-bodied experience where not only i was drawn to the heroine Trinity and her brash and wayward look on life, but felt an instant comraderie and attraction to our hero Theo. Both are creative souls which means that when together their passion is electric and vulnerable and volatile and complicated, all the markings of a well-rounded love story.
Cant wait to see what M.R does next :)

First things first, look at that cover. It's just so pretty. Kudos to whoever designed it. I've always been curious about the characters from reading the previous book. With what I recall of their history this going to be an angsty ride. We don't know a lot of things going on we get to the middle of it all and slowly they get revealed.

Former best friends that held back secrets from each other that caused a rift. We get into the thick of things unraveling then the aftermath. Then fast forward to their relationship shifting. Things have changed between them, things happened they can't change. Theo holds a lot of hurt and resentment towards his family. This side of him is the one he struggles to keep to everyone closest to him. Trinity on the other hand masks her emotions, hides behind her guilt.

Theo and Trinity are both gifted artists, one at drawing, the other creating beautiful one of a kind dresses. With artists come sensitive souls, deep ones that have many feelings. I like how art is incorporated into this story. I can imagine the imagery. I have to note the nod on Asian culture here (yey) because diverse characters are much appreciated.

While I felt it got a little stressful and intense at times, due to family issues being tackled. Theo is patient I'll give him that, Trinity has her walls up so fast it can get tiresome. But he worked through it. I honestly wondered why she didn't go through much needed grief counseling way back before. Seeing as it affected her so much in everything. She can be prickly in effort to guard her heart.

" Wherever this journey takes us, you are always a part of me. "

Their story is full of anguish and heartache, I wanted them get past all that so much and find happiness. It's evident they care a lot for each other, they just need to let go of the past. Move forward together and deal with everything else. I felt bad for them, they had to get past a lot. I'm more partial second half of the book when you start to piece things and it all came together. I like the friendships they all had it was so evident throughout the series.

M. R. has a poetic writing style that will draw you in the story. While I know this writing style may not be for everyone, I think it's seldom found. Trinity and Theo had a volatile chemistry together, a great friendship despite and their emotions ran high. Their journey was worth it, the highs and lows it stood strong. One of the more complex friends to lovers, as a fan of the series I enjoyed this installment.

So I haven't read the first two books but something drew me to this book. I was so glad I was able to read this book. This book grabs you and won't let you go. You are so drawn into Trinity and Theo's story that you can't let go. You have to know what happens next. They have a lot of lot of issues but they handle them the best way they can.
Trinity and Theo have been best friends for as long as they can remember. As they grow older they become friends with benefits but refuse to move forward. What they have work for them. Theo has some serious issues that he has to work thru. He's coming to terms with some new things in his life and keeping a secret other life. Trinity has made a name for herself in dress design but is still grieving her mom's death and refuses to let go. I absolutely love Trinity. She's loyal to her friends, stands up to the bullies and voices her opinions loudly. It's no wonder Theo calls her a firecracker, she's definitely that. She would be so much fun to hang out with, I think! Theo is awesome. He may not handle things well at the beginning but he opens his heart to possibility. He is drop dead gorgeous but only has eyes for Trinity. After a long time, they finally open their eyes to other possibilities and get their happy ending. The title is perfect for this book. Both characters are fractured in their own way and need help moving on to happiness. I so enjoyed reading this book, it kept my attention from beginning to end, so much so I read it while my kids rode their bikes outside. I think I'd like to go back and read the other two books. I have found another author to love.

Fractures by M.R Field is a great story. I love stories about friends that develop into more and that is what Fractures is about. This book grabbed me right from the beginning and held on until the very end. Trinity and Theo have been friends forever. Trinity is self-employed as a designer that designs sells wedding dresses. She is in demand and has a wait list months long. Theo is an architect that has a passion for his career. Despite his love for his job, he has some some demons in his closet. He lost his mother at a young age and was left with a terrible father.

These two characters have secretly been pining for each other, but they didn't know how to act on them for fear of losing the one stable relationship in their lives. Growing up and being friends was great. Until it wasn't enough anymore. Now Trinity and Theo want more. Will it break up their friendship or become more?

I really enjoyed this book. Theo and Trinity are very well written characters. Fractures is very emotional and made my heart hurt at times. Trinity's character was very loving and caring, yet she was also light and funny and made the book. Theo was the quintessential damaged alpha that you loved right from the beginning. I loved everything about this book even the little surprises. A very good read.

WoW, just wow!

Fractures by M.R Field was an amazing story about two best friends who fell in love and became more. An emotional roller coaster that sucked you in and had you hooked until the very end.

I absolutely devoured this book. Both Trinity and Theo’s stories had my heart breaking along with them at times, my emotions were all over the place. I truly loved how the author defined every little aspect of the pain and guilt suffered by each of her lead characters.

For me, I found Trinity to be a caring person who was very protective of her friends. She was spirited and brought just enough humor into the story to bring a smile to your face often. For a girl who had suffered so much she really was described as a beautiful person.

Theo’s character tore at my heart strings and made me angry at those who had wrong him so badly. For a family to treat one of their own in a manner like this is just wrong and it upset me to read how he coped with a cold-hearted father who showed no love toward him at all.

But, it’s the twists to this story that will draw you in and have you fighting with yourself to put it down.

This is a five star read for me.

M.R. Field has done it again! Another amazing read with characters and a story you will fall in love with. It is a story of hope and HEAs; second chances and being seen.

Theo and Trinity's relationship has been fractured in the past by words and actions that can't be undone and by feelings of loss on both sides. As they grow closer again the fractures start to heal but Theo's life is in turmoil and affection doesn't come easily. Discovering he has a family who want to embrace him has him struggling with his emotions. He uses the only way he knows to express his true feelings for Trinity but his subtleness isn't doing it any more. His method is certainly unique and had me falling oh so completely for him.

Trinity's vivaciousness and sassy nature are the perfect contrast and background to Theo's quiet and introspective nature. Together they light up a room and it feels as though they can take on the world! I loved, loved, loved this book. M.R. Field's writing is exceptional and so beautiful. It was a pleasure and a treasure to read.

I first stumbled across M.R. Field at a Melbourne book signing. She was pure effervescence and instantly I had to read her books. I absolutely devoured Fragments and Splinters (books one and two in the Running on Empty series) I fell in love with her characters and writing style.
I was given an ARC of Fractures and was captivated by the story of Trinity and Theo from the very first chapter. They become friends at age 12 both with problems who are drawn together. This is the sory of friends who become lovers but there are trials and tribulations along the way.
There is real grief and emotionally charged chapters that will rip your heart out, some will make you feel a little bit angry. But you are compelled to keep reading because they are so likable you just want to see them prevail, peel away the secrets, see each other for who they are.
All is fair in love and war but when Trin and Theo collide it's "Kaboom" in a good way.
I am loving this series so grab a spoon and your jar of Nutella, enjoy!
Nice work M.R. Field. You had me right from page one!

Five Heartwarming Stars! Trinity & Theo both have demons in their pasts. They have a beautiful friendship that soon develops into something more which helps them to overcome their pasts. The story is beautifully written and you feel all the emotions as the characters experienced them. I was hooked from the first chapter and could not put the book down. The characters will have you feeling sad at one moment and then they will make you laugh as they go from being friends to lovers. This is the third book in the Running on Empty Series and I can not wait for the next book! I highly recommend that you one click this book!

This was a beautiful story about friends becoming more than just friends. You literally feel the emotions coming off the pages as you read.

Theo is one of those characters that has endured hardships within his life due to secrets his family withheld. He never experienced love from his father and that broke my heart. Trinity is a feisty woman who as well has suffered a lot. From loss and guilt through her life i was once again shredded. The relationship between Theo and Trinity is one that will warm your hearts. Its noticeable the attraction these two have and you cant help but cheer them on page after page.

Having been my first read in this series I can say that I will be going back to read the first two and cant wait to see what M.R. Field brings us next.

Theo and Trinity are woven together with pain and love. They're soulmates who fight their emotional connection at different times during their past, and definitely during their present. We're on a journey with Theo, as he tries to open Trinity's eyes to the fact that he loves her, and only her. Trinity's journey is a little more about self forgiveness and trust. They've both hurt each other, intentionally to a certain degree. It was a great story to watch unfold. #TTE.

I absoulutely love it. The expression "being broke" by life, peaople you love, take all is meaning with this book.

I love Theo but i feld hard for Trinity i love everething she stand for. The way she make her sister friend feel beautiful and confident, when she clap back to the girl who bullied her friend and the list go on and on and on.... She is like Theo say, she is LIVE, she radiate on every person who arround her.

Their story make me smile, cry, fustrated me and give some hope.
This is the kind of book you "savoure" slowly like a good meal.

Friends to Lovers that's the story between Trinity and Theo and boy was this one angsty and full of feistiness, sassy, bravado, heartbreak, loss and triumph.

I really liked all the little elements of how Theo brought to life his love for Trinity through his story telling and believe it or not at the end of the book, when he proposed to her through his story telling I broke out in goose bumps. It was heartfelt even though I kinda knew that's the way the story was going to end, can't wait to read about Trinity and Theo being kick ass parents.

M.R. Field has crafted another beautiful romance in the Running On Empty series. While it can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend starting with book 1, Fragments, where you'll meet loveable and relatable characters that are all part of the series with their own stories.

In Fractures, there are secrets to unravel and wounds that need to be mended, and M.R. Fields does this flawlessly.

They say you are meant to take chances in life but for a reader like me (who knows what I like, and like what I know) taking a chance on an unfamiliar author is sometimes a scary process. But M.R. Field showed me that I had nothing to worry about when it came to “Fractures”.

This friends-to-lovers story was everything I hoped for. It broke my heart so bad that I actually climbed into bed with my mom (yes it still happens at the age of 30 when I’m hurting) due to heartbreak. But I was promised it all would be worth it, and it really was.

Theo and trinity have been best friends since high school with the underlying potential be to more, age and the story starts in the middle of their “relationship”. The reader experiences the highs and lows of that relationship throughout the book, and despite the fact that it takes a while to “see” the beginning of their relationship, the anticipation of the build up really kept me invested in this book.

Theo is an architect with a side occupation as a comic book writer and Trinity is an up and coming dressmaker with a funky, nerdy side. This book is told from both MC’s POVs but what really got to me was the way Theo depicted his heart and soul through the storyline of Mila and Adam. It made me wish it was a real comic book so I could expand my library to include their story.

Even though this book is the third in the “Running on empty” series, I never felt like I was missing out on the rest of series to understand the interconnected plot or any of the side characters. In the contrary, it made me want to read more about these friends and the family they have created. And for me, this is testament of the great writing in this book. I can’t wait to read the series from the beginning.

The beautiful story between Theo and Trinity is worth being read on the couch on a lazy Sunday afternoon where you sit back and let the love between them color your world. This is a well deserved 5 star book and it is a great start way to introduce you to an incredible writer…

Trinity has had feelings for Theo since the two were young but when she needed him the most he turned to Claire instead. Now Trinity and Theo survive on a "friends with benefits" life, both wanting more but afraid to give it.

Theo has not had an easy life growing up since his mom died when he was super young and the life he led turned out to be based on lies. When his real father comes back into his life will he allow him to tell him the truth of what happened and why he wasn't there for them?

As both Trinity and Theo deal with their own personal lives will they finally rely on each other to be there for the other when they need each other the most or will they continue to push the other away?

This is the third book in the series and the first one that I have read. Although it can be read as a stand-alone I think I would have preferred reading the other two first as I felt like there was definitely some back story that I missed out on. One thing would definitely be sorting out all the relationships and ties between the main characters.

Trinity seems to have definitely lost a bit of herself since her mother died and I don't know if that's what prevents her from getting close with Theo again. Yet she is also afraid of coming to terms with the past as it truly means that her mom is gone. I love that she is such an individual with designing clothes and she definitely sticks to her guns. She loves Theo but is scared.

Theo has so much going on with coming to terms with his real father and the father he grew up knowing. It was heartbreaking that he didn't feel loved growing up and very sad that he wasn't allowed to grow up with a real family where he felt appreciated. Once I heard Ricardo's story I was very glad he never gave up on Theo.

I'm glad Theo was able to truly fight for what he wanted and did it through the comics! That was a great touch! Definitely looking forward to going back and reading the other stories!

4/5 STARS

See my review in French here

M.R. Field did it again.

I loved Fragments, then Splinters, and I also enjoyed Fractures.
The story is a little different, because Trin and Theo are a little more like “tortured souls”. Their relationship is not easy, with a lot of rocks on the way since they met, as friend and as “more than friends but don’t call it what it really is, because we don’t want to curse it and loose it”.

Their issues, the lack of communication, Trin’s stubbornness etc… kept them apart several times, but they always remained in each other’s heart.

Yes, Trin’s stubbornness can get really frustrating, and Theo’s issues with his family, his identity, and especially his struggle with all those new emotions make this book really special, in a very “Trin and Theo’s way”. This book is their journey to grow up, forgive, heal and dare to hope.

And we also have lots of moments with Trice/CavemanAlex, Hazel/Robbie, and of course we keep on getting hints of future couples and stories to come.

The ending (no spoilers) was perfect for me, especially for Theo, his words were wonderful. This was the perfect way to get closure, acceptance and hope for a life together.

And once again. I can’t wait for the next book, Shatters, Lily and Leon’s story.

I am so glad I’ve discovered this author, really.

In its own way this book is the whole 'opposites attach' theme, a bold out there girl with a family tragedy and a introverted guy with his own family tragedy.

This book being in a series and myself haven't read the first 2 books, I was never lost, which I love. Obviously the supporting characters had their own stories and you go totally go back and read them later if you so wished.

I enjoyed reading this book with this author having the skill and talent to construct her paragraphs well and easily made the sentences flow. If there was one thing I would note is that I hate being able to guess how a situation pans out, it's really a personal thing, I enjoy a storyline more when it keeps me guessing.

Still a great read and I do look forward to reading the other books in the series.

I feel as though it's taken me ages to read this book which is not fair because I loved it. (too many distractions lately!) I loved all the side intertwined stories that made the characters whole and the symbolism of the little things in their relationship - truely beautiful. Oh especially the tattoo so clever!
Just one thing, not a big thing.... if you think you can get away with just 5 books M R Field you have another think coming. I NEED Elly and Anastasia's books too, so get to work girl or else!!!!!!!!!!!

Fractures was a heart breakingly beautiful story of love, loss, and finding who we are truly meant to be in life. This book had me feeling all kinds of ways and dying to see what was going to happen to each of the characters; not only with each other, but with themselves. The path of self-discovery is something that we all go through in life and reading about others peoples experience was heartwarming and eye opening. Fractures was a wonderful story that shows the true ups and downs of friendships, relationships, and all around life. Great story!
