From the moment Holden Cimoc laid eyes on his brother in law's sister, he was falling. They were from two different worlds, leading two different lifestyles, but in his heart he knew it could work. He had to try. His card was placed in Tallulah's hand with the simple statement, "call me if you need me." She called and the electricity between them was powerful, but family and tradition was stronger than her attraction to Holden. "...I’m not looking for a boyfriend,” Tallulah told him. “Good to know because I am not a boy. I have no interest in being your friend either,” Holden said. The blue eyes were piercing into the nasty thoughts building in the back of her mind. “What do you want to be to me, Holden Cimoc, master electrician?” “I want to be your everything,” he told her. Come fall in love as we head back to Venture, Georgia to revisit some old friends.

Holden wants Tallulah, his new sister-in-law by marriage. Her father doesn't think the Birkenstock wearing man has a chance. Holden hones in on his target and asks for a dance and they both feel like they are floating on air.

She's skittish, so Holden knows he has to handle her with the right amount of finesse. He gives her his business card and tells her to call if she needs him. Days later, she has an after hours, electrical emergency at her office and calls Holden to fix it. He does and charges her $150 for 6.5 minutes of work. She thought she was going to get the "I like you" price and she got "I'm a businessman" price!

Things start to evolve, but their differences begin to negatively impact their secret relationship and everything implodes as Tallulah moves outside her comfort zone. Holden comes to her rescue only to be given his walking papers.

Tallulah must come to terms with her actions and feelings and Holden must learn that sometimes love isn't enough if you're the only one fighting for it.

Here's a scene snippet (for mature audiences only) ...
"Bae...are you okay?" she asked.
"Don't touch me," he said curling into a ball.
"Holden, baby, are you okay?"
"Nooooo," he mumbled. His eyes were distant and unfocused and he started to drool.

"Good Lawd, woman!"

If you want something sweet and spicy, with a smattering of fun and games and a whole lot of laughs this is definately one to choose. The characters are kooky but loveable and some of the lines are laugh-out-loud hilarious!

Is it a little cheesy? Are there a few grammatical errors? Is the female lead a tad annoying and selfish? Is the hero a bit childish and emo?... Yes to all, but these factors are a big part of what I felt was a really entertaining read. I like flawed characters, silly behaviours and stupid decisions as these make the characters more relatable.

Holden is white, a blue collar, college educated hippy-ish son of hippy parents. Tallulah is black, a white collar, college educated, somewhat prissy daughter of one of the local preachers. The story opens with Holden completly off his face in Tallulah's front garden, with a brick in one hand and a bottle of Jack in the other and is determined to wreak havoc on his former lover. He proceeds to hump a garden gnome and do something really nasty and gets detained by the local sherrif for the night. The majority of the remainer of the story is told in flashback to explain how Holden ended up in this sorry state...

I struggled with this book and my review. Tallulah is completely unlikable and the one reason I continued to read this book was all for Holden. He was just about the sweetest male character I have ever read about but boy was he given the short end of the stick with his lady love. I was so glad when Janie spoke up and told Tallulah about herself. I have rarely had an author turn me off with a character that I really liked in a previous book but that managed to happen with Orlando. He was turned into a straight up jerk. I really wanted more from Serenity so I can read more about that town and grow to love those characters. The book was very well written even though I didn't love the characters.

This book had me from the first pages. Olivia really brought these characters to life. The comic relief was excellent. The little things they would say had me laughing out loud. Holden was such a sweet character that everyone loved in his home town. Poor Tallulah had to get her head together to figure out what she really wanted in life. Even though she was educated being a doctor, she let her perceived ideas of what kind of man she wanted in her life almost ruin it for her. She had issues she needed to deal with herself. The author wrote believable characters that the readers can relate to.

Sweet story

This book was a great continuation to the Serenity series. There were some parts that were hilarious and the characters were colorful. Ms. Gaines knows how to move a story along without it being rushed. There were some parts that were just outrageous, but I suspect is the norm in small towns. The best part of the book for me was getting to see other characters from Venture, GA that I had grown to love. It was like reuniting with old friends. All in all, it's a great book by Ms. Gaines and I would recommend for others to read if they like their love stories a tad on the sweet side.

From Venture to Serenity what a ride!

I wondered about Holden's story and now I know how Venture, GA lost their best electrician to a town in the process of becoming called Serenity, Wyoming!! I am glad Dr. Strom now Cimoc was brought to understand what real love encompassed! Even her mama read her the riot act and Holden's speaking in the third person sister really put her in the place to either poop or get off the pot! I like that the women of Venture who had all come to know, love and value Holden pushed the envelope forcing our girl out of her comfort zone to seek out her man and begin a real life with him!!! I truly loved this story.

New beginnings

I really felt bad for both Holden and Tallulah because they were both caught up in their emotions which made them make bad decisions. I am so glad the fresh start they were given is working out. The people of Venture will have to order their products and have them shipped. Never judge a book by its cover.

A Very Sweet and Good Interracial Romantic Comedy

Holden (The Serenity Series Book 2) is a very sweet and good interracial romantic comedy that earned a rating of four stars. I found this book to be very funny and sensual as the small town pediatrician gets pulled into a relationship with with her sister-in-law's electrician brother. He happens to be white and younger than the doctor, which caused a few problems for her. The couple have to overcome a lot to find their happy ending. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading very good interracial romantic comedies.

This is my kind of story...Loved it

Holden, Holden, HOLDEN!!!!! I fell absolutely in love with this man. I loved how he saw what he wanted and went for it. How he had a love of people and did what needed to be done to make everyone feel important in some kind of way. He maybe young but what's age got to do with it. I believe he has an old soul. Tallulah oh Tallulah gurl you had me pissed for a minute. Thank God for third person's I won't mention and finally for moma to speak up. Life is sometimes hard but for love OMG anything and I mean anything is possible. I'm ready to head back to Serenity, Wyoming y'all come with me.

I have to wonder who Olivia Gaines is modeling all these characters on. Because all these odd folk can't just live in her head. And a romance that starts with a drunk deuce on a lawn and ends with a HEA is a credit to how funny Gaines is. I was worried that this would be one story that didn't have a happy ending but, of course, true love (and an angry mob of women) wins the day. Can't wait to read the others in the series!

Hilarious, sweet, sexy and heartwarming!

Loved this book! Ms. Gaines, you have done it again. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Would love for Jamar to find his love, someone without "isha" in their name, lol. Loved Holden and Tallulah, man were they hot! And Jack needs some love too! Great book!

Holden was so real and laid back with his sexiness. Tallulah was not prepared. But she learned. Revisiting Venture and Serenity and all the other residents was so much fun. ,
