Jarno Saarinen is a legend. He was a legend during life already and there are several reasons for it. As a rider he was one of the greats of his time, like Hailwood, Agostini and Read. As a man he was immensely popular, like his girl-friend and latter wife Soili. As a technician he was very gifted. And he was intelligent and very professional. Finally, the fact that he was killed in a tragic and unnecessary accident makes fans remember and admire him forever.

Jarno's Grand Prix-career was far too short, only 3,5 years. Most enthusiasts only know him from that period: his hard riding style, the fact that he maintained his bikes himself and that he was always faithful and loyal to Yamaha. But most of them don't know he has raced on 125 and 250cc Puchs in his home-country during 7 years; on the road, on ice, on sandroads, in enduros etc.

That's why this book intends to show, in many pictures and in text, who Jarno Saarinen really was. As a man, as a rider and as a favorite.

Excellent biography of a true hero of motorcycle racing. The book tells Jarno's story with all the details. Especially the race descriptions were gripping and intense - quite a feat when writing about motor racing 30 years after the fact.
The English text is sadly not very well written (or translated). There are a number of systematic mistakes. I don't read German but I'd guess it's the original language of this book. I would have also liked to see some of Jarno's magazine interviews in addition to the "history lesson".
