It's just one thing after another for Rakan and co. Strange houses with no walls, stone creatures, black beasts, and yet another assassin sent to finish off the Sanome Prince once and for all... and while Rakan heads toward his confrontation with the Imperial Prince above ground, below his personal bodyguards are also making progress. But in the end, is Rakan just promising the impossible? Can Narushige keep everyone together? And why can't Chigusa ever keep his shirt on?!
If humans had the power to turn the world upside down, with happiness waiting on the other side, most of them still wouldn't do it.
Not because people are bad -- Sugiura clearly thinks most are good, given the right example or stimulus -- but because they are too afraid of turning the world upside down. Afraid of the unknown, afraid of potential risks.
In a world on the verge of death, most people would rather scrape and backstab for that extra day, that extra bowl of food, than take the chance that they'll be sacrificed next by the endlessly voracious and selfish powers-that-be.
When we first met Rakan he seemed naively kind and forgiving, but in the context of this near-death world, his optimism and generosity suddenly seem rational, because what is there to lose? Why not try to stem the tide of death no matter how bad the odds? Why not trust and hope for the best from others?
This is fast becoming one of my favourite manga series, it's cute, totally slashable without being explicitly yaoi, with a fascinating story and stunning artwork. I just love how Rakan is totally clueless to Chigusa's interest. In this volume we meet some new characters and Rakan gets a new pet a unicorn she wolf that eats rocks. Despite the HUGE cast list, I found this surprisingly easy to follow and love the fact that when there's several bubbles of dialogue, tiny smileys are included so you know who's saying what.
Me encantó este tomo. NUEVO PERSONAJE FAVORITO! KURO!!

oh no this is my last volume of silver diamond! and the chances i'll be able to find someone to sell me the eighth and ninth volumes on their own when they've been out of print so long are basically nil. ;_; well at least i picked a good volume to finish in, nothing super cliffhangery going on. 3.5 stars
I know I say this every time I read a volume of this series, but Kou, how are you so awesomely entertaining?
That said, this volume is not particularly eventful, but the characters' interactions still make it very easy to read. Time to place my pre-order of volume 8!
Introducing my new favourite character, Kuro! Rakan and Co. discover the bones of a storehouse. They are attacked by rock monsters. And Chigusa gets to carry Rakan again. Also, three more bad guys are introduced. All want to see the end of the world, but maybe their reasons are different?
