So this was as awesome as the games were. It pretty much followed the same story, but it was still great fun to see it in this form.

A little warning though, the same as the games, if you can't handle gore, then don't read this one. It is pretty much on par with Higurashi goreness. So be warned!

This release combines the first 2 volumes of the series, the same they did with Higurashi.

It starts off with our group of MCs doing horror stories while at school late, when they decide (with a teacher) to do a game. Stuff happens, and quickly they find themselves in horror-festival. Welcome to Tenjin Elementary School. A school full of death, horror, blood, pain. The characters are split up, either alone, or in groups.

I don't know what I would rather have, experiencing the horror with my friends, or being alone. I think considering the games the school is playing, I would rather be alone. I still remember what happens in the games, and at times it is just better to be alone. To not be so scared that you will cause your friends grief, or to be possessed (as that can also happen) and hurt your friends. On the one hand, I can also imagine having a friend might help out. You are both going through the same thing. And two heads is better than one.

The first couple is Naomi and Seiko. They are best friends, though Seiko wishes there would be more between them. She is constantly drooling over Naomi, while Naomi is not seeing Seiko as more than just a good friend. She has a boyfriend (who is also somewhere, in some dimension, in this school). I still remember Naomi's and Seiko's parts in the game, it was heartbreaking, and it was the same feeling I had with the manga. I won't spoil anything, but dear lord. :( My heart broke all over again.

As the girls make their way through the school we see them find all sorts of hints to where they are, and what happened here. There are also various corpses, spirits, and tricks that the school keeps playing on them (the random earthquakes).
You never know what is creeping up on you in this school. You won't be safe anywhere. And you can really feel that feeling while reading.

The last part of the volume is about another group. The teacher, and 2 others from the class. However most of the last part is all about the teacher and what happens to her. :( I guess in the next volume we will see the other 2 again, or maybe other kids.

What more? Mm, well I can't wait to see how the story will go on, and to see if there are some differences between this and the game (of course there are as the game features many choices that can change a few things here and there).

The art is amazing, and I really liked it. The artist is also able to capture the expressions of horror, fear, and terror perfectly right.

I will definitely buy Volume 2 of this soon as I want to read it further.

This manga was everything I'd hoped for - scary: Sooo scary, and [unfortunately] I've grown rather numb to horror so this was such a great "surprise" - and gory(!) but also funny ((/ω\)) and sweet - it sounds like a very odd combination, but it works so well.

The story takes place in an old, supposedly abandoned (really it's supposed to have been demolished, but I prefer the term "abandoned"; it sounds way more sinister!) elementary school which was torn down because of the disappearances and murders of both students and teachers.
Personally I've always held abandoned schools and asylums close to heart when it comes to the ideal horror story setting - dark hallways, empty rooms with upturned chairs, scratched old blackboards, dripping faucets...

The characters are made up of a group of students with diverse personalities, among them Naomi Nakashima and Seiko Shinohara, whom the two first volumes primarily centers around.
Seiko, in particular, quickly grew to become one of my favorite characters; she's weird and at times what one'd call inappropirate but so, so sweet and genuine and just really likeable.
And the present-day students aren't the only ones roaming the hallways...

The story is told in the most brilliant way, revealed through found notes and diaries filled with words of despair, whispered words and frightened cries from nowhere and other, even more terrifying ways.

Read it! Read it! But be warned; frights and gore galore!

Corpse Party 1

Fazit:
Ein gelungener Horror Manga.

£16 at the comic book store. It cost me to read this…

A decent manga. A lot happened that I’m kind of confused about. I’m kind of confused how some of the characters kind of disappeared after the part one with no explanation. I was told this was sci-fi so sort of disappointed how unrealistic it is to what people sell it out to be. I had a problem with the art-style too. The whole book was really poorly drawn. The only good sides to the drawing style was when we saw the spirits and the horror scenes but that was about it. Three girl main characters that all look about 11 with similar haircuts…. I just found their relationship really confusing. (girls on the cover), I could never tell if they were a couple or a ship or if they were just really really weird friends. If it’s the second thing then I am deeply disturbed.
Intrigued by what else they did with this series. I know it originated as a game so I think I might check that out. If there is an anime? Well wow will that be one mess I am not looking forward to.
Corpse Party is definitely….problematic. A shame this was the first manga I read for this 2021 reading year🙈
I love how I read THIS and Radio Silence at the same time😭

I watched the anime; heard good things about the game. I really enjoyed this one. Overall it has stayed pretty faithful, but there have been a few little things (namely, one of the deaths) that was different, so I'm sure it will diverge even more as it goes on. Either way--I love this mythology and god the gore, I love it.

Do you enjoy reading, watching, or even listening to ghost storys? Especially the really scary, gruesome ones? I do, I love horror, gruesome, disturbing stuff. I find it fun, and maybe you do to. I present this manga "Corpse Party: Bloodcovered" the best horror, gruesome manga there is. Just to warn you, this is basically a japanese comic, so there are very disturbing pictures in there. So if you get distrubed easily, I wouldn't recomend this book to you. Yet, if you are an all lover manga fan, no matter what genre it is, you will love this book. For real, this book is super cool, and super graphic.

The main reason why this manga's title is "Corpse Party: Bloodcovered" is because there are actual human corpse in there, and a lot of blood. If you read the book then you'll understand why there's corpse everywhere, but I won't give it away today! The picture, yeah it seems a little inappropiate but it has nothing to do with what you might be thinking of. The two girls are best friends that end up becoming victums with their fellow classmates. How did they become victums? Let's just say that they did something very stupid, and don't know how to deal with it. After they do that, they get themselves in situations that can cost them their lives. Not everyone is together, but some are lucky to be with at least one person. All of them eventally meet spirts, some are good and some are bad. Who ever got to meet the bad spirt always had a hard time getting away from that spirt. If they did get it away they were lucky... or they just got killed instead. On top on meeting spirts and ghost, the kids are freaked out by seeing a bunch of corpse lying around everywhere. Anyway, these kids have to face demons or spirts to survive. Would you face them, or would you just let them kill you? The thing is, you can never be alone in those situations. That is what I learned after reading that manga. You get more ideas, and you can survive bad situations easier. Plus, you can fail together, or I should say... die together.

The setting of this manga is important to the theme because it actually gives us an idea of what type of bad situation I'm talking about. Dark hallways, three floors, outside that leads to the woods, and closed dimensions. For example, this quote was from the manga, "Yes. If you figure out how to cross dimensions, you won't be able to escape." You see how that kind of supports the setting. What that person was saying, was dark. To support the setting and the theme even more, I'm going to share one of my favorite quotes from this manga. "You're lucky just to exist in the same demension. Two heads are better than one- You come up with more ideas." You see? You have a better chance at surviving things with more than one person. It made me not want to go anywhere by myself now. If you read the manga you'll really understand why.

My favortie part of this manga is when one of them actually looses their life. I know, why should I even like that part, it's so dark! I have to admit that it is but I like what happens. So this classmate ends up by herself and she get invloved with some bad spirt. When one of her friends finds her, she's half dead already. Her friend tried to save her but it was impossible for her to do that. Especially when there both panicking. What I like about this part is, the dying girl's last words. She says to her friend, "I love you..." This part made me cry because I can realte to that character. I love one of my closest friends like that too. If I were dying right before her eyes I would say I love her, I even say it to her sometimes. It made me realate to that dying girl so much and it's the reason why I love that part. Not because she's dying, because of her last words to her closest friend.

Automatically, this manga is rated 5 stars. The suspense, gruesome, friendship, and even stupidy from the characters made me love this manga. Especially the male characters! Whoa! They were very attractive, even if they were cartoons. This manga is also an anime, I've seen it before. Trust me if you read the manga first and you know you couldn't handle it, you won't sit there and watch the anime. You wouldn't even consider watching it. But, if you've seen the anime first, then you know that you can read the manga. I saw the anime first, I could not sleep at night. I had to watch it in the morning so I can forget about it the whole day. It's the reason why I fell in love with the anime and the manga. The suspence, drama, and gore, and so much more. I experience new emotions that couldn't let me sleep! If you're an all time horror anime lover, this is your book.

A bunch of kids are transported to a haunted school and killed one by one. For literal shits and giggles.

I read through this first volume without knowing it was adapted from a videogame, and once I found that out it explained a lot of the mean-spirited treatment of the two-dimensional characters. As others have pointed out here, there is some gratuitous fan service that annoys more than titillates. The art isn't that great, with the female characters being almost indistinguishable except for slightly different hairstyles. The story gets a minor boost in the second volume when it twists around to briefly revisit story elements from the first volume from another angle, but I don't think it will be enough to justify me seeking out a third volume of this pointless gore and gloom.

2.5 stars, bumped up for the Morishige scenes. Review of the series entire.

Absolutely this isn't the best way to approach the Corpse Party franchise, and I don't know how to review it for newcomers beyond "nah, check out the game(s)." But as a way to revisit the story: interesting. Not entirely successful, but interesting.

This is often faithful, but not all of it translates. I love the room-by-room realization of the school in the early chapters, but that can't be sustained. The original plot, and the way it weaves in canon routes and bad ends, is significantly more interesting, but I like the manga's route in addition to those--another thread in the tapestry. The gore is good but the ghosts are so, so boring--I don't like how they're stylized. Some character moments are phenomenal: I am foremost Morishige trash and his scenes are all perfect, thank you, it's much appreciated. But the way that bodies are handled, that line where fanservice meets the embarrassing vulnerability of the flesh which persists no matter how outlandish the circumstances, a line so well tread in the first game in particular, is just awful here--it's all fanserivce all the way down, just embarrassing.

I have no regrets about reading this. I love the games, and this was a fun, easy way to revisit them that enriched my larger thoughts on the series. But at best it's only okay.

i have no words that can do it justice. anyways I'm gonna try to convince you to read these now.

this whole series is awesome. like many, I played the games, read the unofficial translations of this manga illegally online (shh), and totally lost my little gay teenaged mind when they started releasing these FOR REAL. AND I COULD HOLD THEM IN MY HANDS.

My absolute favorite part of this series is the way that the author has their own voice in this manga. It's not just a retelling of Corpse Party: BloodCovered: Repeated Fear. It has the strains of a reimagining! Yoshiki and Ayumi feel a lot more natural and genuinely cute. Naomi and Seiko... my heart. YUI... I cry every time.
The little joke strips at the end of each manga act like tiny bandages that are way too small to stop up the wounds caused by the main story but they are SO cute and so life-giving.

If you're a fan of the game, you'll love this! If you're not a fan of the game... read it anyways! Still a great story! Explores the depths of how far one man's cruelty can span, the further reaches of mercy & love, and how forgiveness stretches from beyond the grave <3
no hard feelings <3 <3 <3 (excuse me while i cry)

This manga is as adorable as it is gruesome. whats starts out as a cute tale about friendship turns into a murder/ survive the night type situation as a group of friends finds themselves separated and transported to a haunted school. With characters dying left and right and going crazy all around its hard to keep track of the kill count. Add to the fact that many of the characters are split up in separate dimensions, where things could be happening and have already happened at the same time and you've got yourself a true mystery. While reading this haunted thriller you'll find yourselves asking questions a mile a minute trying to unravel the conundrum these pitiful children find themselves in.

The story is called Corpse Party ; Blood Covered. This is the first book in the series by Makoto Kedouin and the art is by Toshimi Shinomiya. It is a graphic novel. I think this book is very interesting because It has a lot of action parts. One thing that is very interesting in this book is how they were in a happy world but then an earthquake hits and makes their happy school turn into a sad one.. One of the characters is Naomi Naka, she is one of the happiest characters, she is even happy when they are in the other world. I would recommend this book to people who like graphic novels and like murder type of books. This book makes me want to read the next one. I would give this book a 10/10. It is very good and I am wondering what will happen next!

Book 3 of the 2017 Summer Biannual Bibliothon. Completed the challenge of Seen Somewhere Other Than Booktube.

I absolutely loved this manga. I am familiar with the game and anime, but this first volume covered exactly up to the point I stopped in the game.

I am very sad about the death of Seiko, and I feel as if killing Naomi would have made more sense. I am also worried that they killed the Sensei, although I don't think they would do that.

Although there are some weird aspects and parts to this story, I adore it and will continue as soon as I get my hands on the next volume.

Corpse Party is as graphic and gory as it sounds. It follows a typical spooky, haunted house sort of plot, only it takes place in an elementary school. I finished this in one sitting and loved it. The story was so fast paced and it definitely handled suspense well. I felt like there was going to be some creepy thing around every corner. If you can't handle violence and gruesome scenes, I would advise to steer clear. If you don't mind that stuff and like the horror genre, I think this is an entertaining tale. Would recommend to people that are into ghost stories.

Honestly just picked this up during my shift bc I felt nostalgic about watching pewds play the game in like 2014, but it was actually quite a fun read. I’d forgotten a lot of what happened so it was fun to revisit, but I also couldn’t really compare it bc I’d forgotten. So I feel like even if I didn’t have the connection through the game I would still give it a 4/5. Could probably say some more stuff about it, but I don’t feel like It’s necassery! I recommend <3

Spooky, scary, silly
good stuff (y)

3.5 stars, rounded up.

I like the way this is using the horror elements to raise important conversations and difficult topics. Did not enjoy the way the one queer character (so far) is portrayed as someone who is either incapable of not crossing other people's boundaries or else just doesn't care about respecting others. The character is constantly groping another character, even after being told to stop repeatedly, and is, of course, the first to die.

This was one of my first horror graphic novels; I normally avoid the genre in all mediums, but boy was this a ride. The silly manga style mixed with the horrific occurances was both intruiguing as well as extra creepy and almost unsettling. Which, I guess is the point. Being new to the genre and book series, I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend for others willing to take the plunge!

This is better than I expected but still leaves a lot to be desired. My biggest gripe is that the psychology of the children doesn't really make sense to me. After the first corpse, I'd expect them to be basket cases.

The book was really good an entertaining. It contained lots of bloody and gory content which I enjoy reading in manga. It's my favorite adaptation of the Corpse Party Franchise. It's the first volume and mainly follows the story arc of Naomi and Seiko. Overall good!!

The nostalgia I got from reading this. I remember little 13-year-old me, shivering in my room playing this game with pixel art that somehow incited so much fear. A perfect adaption. I can’t wait to get the next volumes!

This wasn’t for me. And I find it strange that it takes place within an elementary school where horrific things take place. Not to mention that one girl randomly gets groped by her best friend repeatedly even though she tells her to stop. I have no interest in continuing this series.
