Well that was gross!!!

Wtfery x 10.
I'm really glad she is not pregnant (this we know of at the end) cause it was just too much.

However, I should have guess with her falling for some asshole line in the first place she was an easy sucker!
I hate when the man gets to know all the dish on the girl but acts like his sexual experience is ok!

Honestly, I knew when she said she had fallen for that ass and slept with him, that the book was going nowhere.
Please avoid this one if you don't want to drive yourself crazy with their omg bullshit.

She was TSTL and he was a total crazy asshole. It was just like watching someone hit their head against the wall over and over again.
You keep hoping that she will grow a spine and leave with some kind of dignity!
Alas, this was not to be!

I was so disappointed by this one!

Okay, I've *clearly* read too many vintage HPs - but this revenge by the hero story is actually kind of sweet and the HEA was believable to me. How can I say this immediately after hating on Ruthless Greek Boss, Secretary Mistress - where I proclaimed the hero of that story a workplace harasser and a sexist pig? On the surface, this Dark Avenger guy is worse. He's threatens to impregnate the heroine as revenge - that's fairly batsh*t behavior.*

Well, to compare and contrast. The hero in the workplace story had all of the power - he was the boss, he had economic leverage over the heroine. His only motivation - lust. In Dark Avenger, the hero *thinks* he has all of the power - he has held the heroine's brother captive for impregnating his sister and will not rest until he has impregnated the heroine. His motivation? An eye-for-an-eye justice. At first it looks as if he has all the power. He is the only one able to start the engine of the boat (and the story itself) and thus their adventure begins.

It's *their* adventure because our mega-rich shipping tycoon stays with the heroine on her supply ship and helps her bring goods to the remote, sparsely populated islands on her usual route. They encounter a storm and work together. The heroine opens up about her life. They exchange views of justice, a woman's place, honor, family loyalty, and other philosophical subjects. All before (and after) having sex. They actually get to know each other and the reader also gets to know them as well.

The hero backs down nicely from his revenge and from his attitudes about his sister. (Heroine's brother helps his own case by escaping and taking the H's sister with him - he's no wimp in the hero's mind.) The heroine in this story does succumb to traitorous body syndrome, but only after spending a lot of time with the hero and enduring some life and death situations.

So I liked them both and I liked this story with the OTT premise.

*Totally batsh*t in the real world - just a trope that's not used too often in HPlandia.

Ehem.
I'm puzzled.
How can I review a book like this?
Because the premises are too ridiculous.
The man is a greek billionaire and his sister is pregnant with the heroine's brother's child.
So he plans his revenge that made me laugh like I haven't for ages.
I went on and on and on and my husband was like what are you reading that is so fun?
And I replied, it's a book with jokes. And that's the truth.
The man actually decides that his revenge will be to get the heroine pregnant with his child and then to leave her alone.
He and his family have kidnapped the h's brother and they will ehem... castrate him (no, really!) if she refuses to comply.
And the stupid woman agrees!
At this point my whole face was hurting because I was laughing too much.
Oh my, the fantasy of these writers!
Of course the whole situation is ludicruous.
Sadly there are some situations in real life where this awful thing would happen, and that is with prisoners of war, when women were kidnapped, raped and got pregnant with the enemy's children.
It's something so terrible that I can't even begin to describe how much.
But here we have the trivialization of such practice.
The man is a madman or a criminal, or both.
I think both.
And I'm sorry that greek culture is so ridiculized, since the hero should be one of the richest and more powerful men in all greek and instead he appears like a mob boss of lowered expectations (and intellectually challanged).
And a stupid one.
And the heroine accepts the fact as if it is all normal. No! She also enjoys sex with him and thinks he could be feeling something for her. (after what he did in the beginning????)
Who's the dumbest here?
She thinks she will have his child and raise it all by herself. Are. You. Mad???
The child of a billionaire???
Just in case you accept such an absurd proposition...Never heard of DNA test and alimony??
But all is really absurd in this book.
Like the fact that she falls in love with this cretin of a man, who doesn't even know what he says.
Because what is the greatest failure of the book is that it fails to convey a real villain.
I could list many books with a hero who's a real villain who wants revenge and is really a bad boy.
This is not the case.
This hero is a stupid weak mob boss who didn't even thought about the consequences of his too absurd, too ridiculous plan.
So he's puzzled when the heroine points out the fact that he will have a son (or daughter) who may one day ask about him and may one day hate him.
Oh, really? How stupid can you be?
This book should have been angsty but how can a book be angsty when both characters border on schizofrenic?
Yes, because they are completely out of touch with reality.
And they are happy anyway!
Well, I would give 5 stars for the fantasy plot, but it was really upsetting and I couldn't even connect with any of the characters.
I don't know if I can recommend it.
I can only recommend that if you want to read it, you keep yourself emotionally distant from it or you could suffer from PTSD.

3 stars for the crazy of it all. I'm giving him the No. 1 Asshat of all time award. Not only was he going to knock up a woman innocent of all wrong doing but then he planned to go off and leave her to raise his baby without any help. It's really no wonder she fell in love with him. ;-) He didn't do nearly enough repenting and groveling at the end.

And then his line about not wanting any reward for saving her from rape but that he only did what any decent man would do. That was a WTF moment for me. 'Cuz wasn't the whole book an illustration of just how indecent he was?

Still best blackmail threat EVER. If you don't get on your hands and knees and beg me to f*** you and knock you up, I will make sure to beat your 19 year old brother severely enough that he will never father another child if he even manages to walk away.

What a prince. Sigh...

Nikos Spirakis must avenge the honor of his sister. He seeks out Carrie Stevens, the sister of the man that stripped his sister of her honor, for his vengeance. These are a dime a dozen from way back when. But let’s see how this one played out. Her brother is working at one of his olive groves under his family members’ supervision, and his fate rests in her hands. He intends to leave Carrie the way that her brother has left his sister….pregnant! Seriously he plans on WALKING away from his own flesh and blood? He said he did. She, of course, claims will be rape, but he says no she will not be able to help herself. Why are they always right? Why can’t these women control their appetites? Does this explain why there isn’t a woman president?

Somehow Carrie falls in love w/ this man. I’m not sure how but perhaps it has something to do w/ the fact that he has her isolated from other people. Nikos is trying to claim some family honor – guess bringing a child into the world like that is honorable! Carrie is basically naïve and sees what she wants to see; Nikos plays this up to get what he wants in the end. I have to wonder why he is so dense about his family and their actions towards her later on. Didn’t he basically do the same thing to her? He was basically treating her as a vessel for his leavings and they felt like they should get to make a deposit as well. They just wanted a piece of that pie too, what’s the difference? Her brother hit one of them when he escaped and he needs vengeance too. The Spirakis family motto appears to be punish the innocent for the sins of someone else!! I was thinking that his house was full of perverts too. Why else would his sister have a lock on the outside of her door and Carrie had one on the inside; why was the sister’s room locked when she wasn’t even there?

Nikos claims that the innocent should suffer for the sins of someone else – yet wasn’t Carrie innocent? He also doesn’t like that she has a love opinion of him. Why wouldn’t she given the predicament he has placed her in. I couldn’t understand why this rich successful businessman couldn’t figure out a few things before jumping on the vengeance band wagon. I also speculate that he is a liar. He claimed his threats were made in the heat of the moment, yet they weren’t. He told his family what he was going to do to her to right the wrongs of her brother.

Ranting ahead.

Can you say "Stockholm Syndrome"? The idea that a man would deliberately impregnate a woman as revenge is totally abhorrent to me. I can't even believe that the reason why Carrie allowed herself to be seduced was because she really fell in love with Nikos. How could she with the way Nikos treated her? I guess this could be considered "old skool" HQP, but not a romance in my opinion. I *do* think Carrie was right when she said that Nikos was no better than his cousins who tried to rape her.

Could someone write an epilogue where they have a son & Carrie *does* bring him up knowing what his father did to his mother & the son totally destroys Nikos? Please?

The h has no pride.

The H blackmails her into sex by threatening to do something to her brother and she falls in love with him. Moreover, she tells him she has fallen in love with him.

The sex scene at the end of the book where she lies on top of him is hot though.

If you leave your brains aside and ignore the fact that he is blackmailing her and that she is a doormat, then it’s an okay book.

He belonged to mental institution... I can't reasonably accept he will be forgiven and this utter non-scene will turn into a love story.

I actually liked the story. I wasn't a huge fan of the methods in which the H seek his revenge against the h's brother. However, it was lust at first sight for these two. Apart from the common reason on why they were forced together, they shared a love for the sea , which created a mutual like and respect. Thee were some angst between the MC, this heroine wasn't a 'push over' I figured she gave into the H because of the guilt she harbored for her brother believing that he was guilty of fooling around with the H's sister. What I did appreciate and its something we do not get from even modern HPs was she confessed her feelings .

I really thought this novel was great. At first I was a bit disgusted by the heroes methods but as the novel went on and the hero and heroine fell in love, I got more and more into the novel. The ending was pretty decent as well but I wanted it to continue, unfortunately it had to end.

To quote Stmargarets words from her review: “Okay, I've *clearly* read too many vintage HPs - but this revenge by the hero story is actually kind of sweet and the HEA was believable to me.”

This is a book with solid votes in the 2 and 3 star range. The 4’s and 1’s are pretty even. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but quite honestly I got sucked into this story and enjoyed it.

The premise of a wealthy attractive Greek hero who seeks to avenge his sister’s honor by impregnating and then abandoning our heroine(she is unlucky to be the sister of the brother who impregnated the hero’s sister) is outrageous, it’s wrong, it’s insulting to Greeks and women everywhere, yet here I am lapping it up!

First of all, our H never rapes the h. She is, however, under duress as he is holding her brother captive for tarnishing his sister’s reputation and preventing her from an arranged marriage to a wealthy greek man.

So basically he boards her boat that she uses for business to transport items from island to island. He fixes her engine and while she is changing, he unmoors the boat and away they go out to sea. OF course she is outraged, and then he tells her all about his grand revenge scheme and how her brother has impregnated his sister and now he will do the same to her. Once pregnant he will release her and her brother. Obviously, she is not taking this lying down(yet). So they work together on the boat and our hero shows that he is not afraid of hard work. He may be rich, but he is not lazy. He is also a smooth operator. He doesn’t force the sex issue, but assures her she will be the one asking him to bed. They end up making it through a storm, and the hero’s sexiness becomes too much for our heroine, plus she needs to “take one for the team” so to speak to save her brother. She has already seen the the H skinny dipping and has admired his “assets” from afar!

So, they come together under the stars, then again in the ocean(looked at the publication date, oh its 1997!) The scenes were a little more graphic then my 1983 books, but not at much as the 2013. The scenes were very sexy! Here is the crazy thing, she actually tells the H she loves him! (Our hp heroines do not do this with almost 80 pages to go!) Usually are heroines think this to themselves, but they don’t put themselves out there like that normally. Of course, our H reacts like you would expect him to.

And he gives her the spiel that he doesn’t do love. Marriage for him will be more of business merger, as it should have been with his sister. Then he downplays the “sex” with the heroine making her now wish she would have followed HP rules about never saying ILY until the last minute. Meanwhile, we can see that the hero is falling in love by his “coolness” to the h. Then more drama ensues when they return to the H’s compound to find that the brother has absconded with the Hero’s sister. A few more things happen and the H has to rescue the h from some revenge seeking cousins. The H then shows the h around his property and they end up having another steamy round of sex. At this point the H is done for and is wondering if he has mucked up any chance with the h. He finally says the words she was waiting for , and it’s an HEA for everyone! It sounds like there may be a double wedding in the future!

This book worked for me. I actually liked the H even though his ethics are seriously in question here. However, these 2 came together convincingly, and she did want the H. She was a pretty independent heroine, so I doubt if she had no attraction for the H that she would have gone to him. The worse part, of course, was the intention to impregnate her. Yet this is addressed in the book about how a child is innocent and bringing in a child under these circumstances is wrong on many levels(yet it didn’t stop the unprotected sex but I am not sure the H was thinking revenge during these times). I do like how the h basically tells him that if she has a son she will tell the son how awful his dad was and maybe the son would seek out his own revenge.(our heroine would not have done that though, but the threat was good). At the end of the book right before the H asks her to marry him there is this little gem:

‘I hope you end up married to some black-hearted bitch who makes your life a living hell.’
He sighed heavily. ‘She probably will after the way I’ve treated her.”

Our h had some pluck to her!

The idjeet heroine is all alone on her boat when a complete stranger hops on, takes his shirt off, and orders her to go take a shower below deck while he "checks" the engine. And naturally, she complies. To her Big Shock and Surprise, she goes back on deck to discover that the Shirtless Wonder has not only fixed the engine, he has driven the boat far out into the sea. Why? REVENGE of course! Shirtless Wonder is the heir to a vast, wealthy, Greek, family-owned conglomerate and he has a gripe with idjeet's brother because he impregnated his younger sister. Now, he will spend a month on the boat with idjeet until she makes up her mind to give in to Shirtless Wonder and get herself pregnant too. An eye for an eye, a baby for a baby!

Idjeet does not bother to scream at the people they encounter on their nautical journey that she has been kidnapped and sex trafficked. Her traitorous body has already fallen hook, line, and sinker for Shirtless Wonder. All is well that ends well as our four star-crossed lovers end up in a double wedding for the conclusion.

Honestly, I enjoy these old Harlequin's silly tropes but even within the genre, there should be something internally logical about the actions and motivations that move the plot along. This was SO phoned in and mediocre.

Yikes. This one wasn't too good. Probably cause the hero was such a jerk. He didn't 'change' until his family members tried to attack the heroine...yeah great thanks for stepping up at the last damn minute. The poor heroine seemed stuck, like she needed to leave the story but the author trapped her there. Skip.

Fails on all levels.
H rapes h then has nerve to complain about "putting up with her insults".
This nonsense that people should marry for family to increase their wealth or status is so selfish. The family simply wants to use the members without care for individuals.
