Cecily von Ziegesar is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Gossip Girl novels, upon which the hit television show is based.

Cecily von Ziegesar was born in New York City. Her childhood dream was to grow up to be a ballerina; she began lessons at age 3 and auditioned for the School of American Ballet at age 8, but was rejected.

As a teenager, von Ziegesar commuted to Manhattan at 6 a.m. to attend the Nightingale-Bamford School. After graduating from Nightingale, von Ziegesar attended Colby College before spending a year in Budapest working for a local radio station.

Von Ziegesar returned to the United States to study creative writing at the University of Arizona, but dropped out shortly thereafter.

Back in New York, while working at book-packaging firm Alloy Entertainment, von Ziegesar became inspired to create the Gossip Girl series, which follows the lives of privileged teenagers in New York. The series climbed to the top of The New York Times best-sellers list in 2002. A spin-off series, The It Girl, made the list in 2005.

The Constance Billard School for Girls in Gossip Girl is based upon an exaggerated version of von Ziegesar's alma mater, Nightingale. She also culled events from the book from the lives of her extremely wealthy friends, as well as her own life as a perpetual gossip.

She lives in Brooklyn, New York with her family.

Seeing all these girls grow up is a very fun experience but a very different one than I had in high school. The things that end up happening to these poor girls sometimes really shows how sometimes high school isn't very kind to everyone. I'm loving where this story is going and I can't wait to see what happens after. The reader really ends up either liking some of the girls or hating them, but the things that are happening now are changing my thoughts on some of them.

The It Girl series is highly entertaining and highly addictive. But Reckless was my favorite one so far, and I thought the only one of the three I've read that deserves five stars. Why? For starters, the characters were more fleshed out this time around and felt less like stereotypes. The story was also more entertaining and there was more drama.

Life continues at Waverly Academy, even as Jenny and Brett are at war with Tinsley and Callie. This makes living arrangements uncomfortable to say the least, because Jenny and Callie are roomates and so are Tinsley and Brett. But Jenny feels like with the gorgeous, artistic Easy as her boyfriend, she can survive any mean girl drama. And now that Brett is back together with the wonderfully sweet Jeremiah (and the creepy Mr. Dalton is out of her life) she can almost put up with her roomate's antics. Tinsley is still the mean girl you love to hate and Callie is the spiteful but secretly vulnerable rich girl.

In Reckless, I didn't like Easy as much as I usually do. I was cheering Brett and Jenny on the whole time. And I was also rooting for Brett's boyfriend, Jeremiah. He's the one nice guy in a sea of dishonest males! The ending left me eager for the next installment, and I know it will keep you wanting more too.

After reading the first and second book, I thought this one was a bit "blah." It was not quiet interesting, but it was a read to get the facts and get going. While reading this book, I just wanted to know what was going on with Jenny and what was going to happen to her next. I did not care about all her other roomates thoughts and what they were going to do. So I realize that I was just skipping a lot of the facts and just moving on to Jenny.
This series, I have trufully enjoyed it. I could not have lied that this book was not interesting because I was just flipping through the book. Cecily Von Ziegesar has a great sense of writing skills to catch her reader's attention, and to make sure that everything is worth being said. Even though I did not have my full attention to all the details on the book, I did have the attention to grab the next book in the series and read on. For Cecile Von Ziegesar to have be grab the next book of her series, is good enough for me.

Not a bad book, I like how this series is a bit more realistic than the other ones. The ending of this one was really sweet as well. I enjoyed how Tinsley pretty much got what was coming to her in the book as well. It's just a light read so it's good for when your brain is dead.

I’ve read two of the gossip girl books before so I’m not sure how these ones compare but.. they are probably pretty similar - except these ones follow Jenny Humphrey to boarding school. Some friendships deepen and some fade - I’m a fan of some of the new characters that are in this book. Easy, one sitting, high school drama.

Reckless (It Girl)
Jenny, Easy, and Alison Quentin are invited to join Mrs. Silver’s Wednesday afternoon Human Figure Drawing elective. After class, Easy invites Jenny to get check on Credo-his horse- but she turns him down to go study. Promising him they’ll do something that weekend. As they kiss in the rain, Jenny thinks about Callie and how tortured he must be. But figures it’s better to have had Easy once than not at all. Tho she’s certainly not trying to find that out.

Practice is called off because of the rain so Callie, Brett, and Jeremiah are assigned to go to the gym. She decides she’s happy she didn’t give up her virginity because she’s going to have sex with Jeremiah. Callie goes back to her room and has an awkward run in with Tinsley and Jenny (who’s leaving a note for Brett). Brett meets up with Jeremiah and they make plans to go to Homecoming and afterwards have dinner with his parents. Easy receives an email from his father that he’ll be attending “Trustee Weekend” and requests he invites Callie. Easy tells her about it and she says if it’ll make his life easier she’ll come. He says that would be great. She promises not to tell Jenny. Jenny hadn’t even crossed his mind, but he figures Jenny won’t be ready for his father because he’s a hard ass.

Tinsley helps Heath and new freshman Julian hide kegs under the bed of a girl that everyone calls “The Girl in Black” and on the roof. She decides even tho he’s a freshman she’s going to make Julian hers. Tinsley throws a all girls party on the roof. But they hears someone say “Freeze! We’re coming up!” and all the girls flee down the back stairs. In her rush out Tinsley forgets the abandoned kegs.

There’s a disciplinary meeting called for the dorm residents. Because all the girls were gone when the teacher got there they can’t tell who was at the party, but they punish them all (because it’s Trustee Weekend) by putting them on lock down for the weekend. All the dorm residents have to write a paper on the responsibility of being an Owl. Ruining Brett’s plans with Jeremiah. Easy tells Jenny he can’t hang out with her that weekend because he has plans with his dead. He doesn’t tell her the plans include Callie. Jenny says she understands and wishes she could go with him to take the stress off.

Easy has second thoughts at dinner about Callie as he listens to her defend him (and his art) to his dad (and his dad stand down). Brett calls a mandatory meeting. It’s found out the “Girl In Black’s” name is Kara -and who isn’t happy to find out they stuck five kegs under her bed-. The girls all decide to have a party. One of the girls says her boyfriend is on the Trustee Committee and can call them when Pardee leaves. They decide to wear someone else’s clothes. Tinsley finds out Cara has a closet full of cool clothes because her mom is a designer. Who would have known? Tinsley invites her to her room after convincing her to wear one of the dresses. But then Callie stops by and invites Tinsley to get and she forgets about Cara.

Cara comes by and gets to know Jenny and Brett while they do their makeup and get ready for the party. The guys sneak in trough secret tunnels built during the Civil War, In the tunnels, Brandon realizes he’s not interested in seeing Callie but he is interested in seeing Tinsley (after seeing her at dinner). He’s surprised tho when Easy takes up for her (sounding as if he’s still into her).

Jenny and Easy meet up at the party but she can tell something is off. He still doesn’t tell her about the dinner with Callie. Jenny leaves him in her room and goes to get drinks. Heath finds out that Kara is into comics but she reveals she’s someone he used to harass and throws her beer in his face. Jenny finds out Kara had to leave school because of people like him. Callie finds Easy in her closet hiding and before she knows it they’re kissing. There’s an alert that a teacher is around.

Brandon bumps into a girl named Elizabeth Jacobs from St. Lucius after walking out of a water fight in the bathroom between Tinsley and Julian (feeling stupid for bad judgement). She turns out to be the one everyone suspects is the teacher. She followed Jeremiah from St. Lucious and is looking for him. She and Brandon “bond” while running up and down the hall waking people up who don’t know about the party.

Brett confesses to Jeremiah she’s a virgin to. They’re about to have sex when the door flies open and they’re interrupted by Elizabeth. He introduces her as a friend. After this the mood is shattered and Jeremiah suggests they join the party. She wants him to get the mood back. He watches her dress and says she looks sexy but she knows there’s something he’s not saying.

After this everyone gathers for a game of “Never Have I Ever”. Someone says I’ve never had sex. Heath, Jeremiah, and Elizabeth take a shot. This leads Brett to believe Jeremiah and Elizabeth have had sex with each other. Tinsley doesn’t take a shot and she’s confronted by her friends because she’s implied she’s had it multiple times. Tinsley says she never took had dinner with her father and took her ex instead of her current. Jenny gets upset and asks Easy if it’s true. She then runs out the room. Kara runs after Jenny. Tinsley gets called a bitch by Callie. Tinsley just shrugs it off and walks out of the room.

Callie is left by herself to clean up and Easy is still moping around. She tells him to get over himself and choose. He can’t have feelings for both of them. It just doesn’t work that way. Brandon shows Elizabeth the tunnels. She explains to him that she was there for Jeremiah when Brett broke his heart. One thing lead to another but that was that. She came to the party to check up on Brett. They end up kissing. Brett and Jeremiah break up.

Kara tells Jenny maybe Easy has a good explanation. She should hear him out, she suggests. Callie comes in the room and apologizes. She says Tinsley’s just a bitch and the only reason she went out with Easy was it was just easier because she already knew him. It’s been weird with his dad. This doesn’t make Jenny feel better. Callie leaves out the kiss in the closet. Then they start to talk about how much guys suck and agree to respect themselves so guys will respect them. They all write a collective essay on it.

Tinsley and Julian end up watching a movie together in the common room. They sneak up to the roof. Tinsley wants to kiss him but knows it might not be as good as she anticipates. When he finally does, she’s not disappointed. Tinsley says they can’t tell anyone because “Waverly relationships tend to crash and burn under the tension”. But the truth is she’s bad at relationships and doesn’t want to be a “two some”. Julian goes along with this.

My Thoughts:
(rolling my eyes) Easy is now starting to put me in the mind of Nate. I HATED Nate! But then with a name like “Easy” I guess I couldn’t expect much from this character from the jump. Jenny is starting to grow on me slightly but then because of the big boob thing that’s excessively throwin in our faces with every book, it’s hard to really trust any guy she gets close to because we never know if it’s really her or it’s that. I think tho that with *this* guy what his name implies is just what he is. My favorite past was when Callie told him off. I could just imaged her saying “Well since I’m not your everything, how about I be nothing. Nothing at all to you.” Callie kind of won my respect when she told him you don’t get to have both and if you don’t choose neither of us wants anything to do with you. And another favorite moment of mine was at the end when they made the comment what if we didn’t let them disrespect us. It’s something I’ve often thought myself. So, I really liked how Brett, Callie, Kara, and Jenny came together in the end

I loved Reckless by Cecily Von Ziegesar due to its spunk and surprises. After Dean Marymount finds out about a party (thrown by Tinsley Carmichael, of course) on top of Dumbarton Dorm’s roof, he puts every Dumbarton girl on lockdown for the weekend. This stirs up a lot between former friends, Tinsley, Callie, Brett and Jenny, because now they have nothing else to do but fight and make one another’s life stink. I think that the It Girl series just keeps getting better with each book, and this novel was no exception. Reckless made me want more and more of Cecily Von Ziegesar’s writing and I can’t WAIT to read the next book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes fun, daring and modern books.

I don't have anything to say except for the fact that I still loved it. The plot never seems to get old or boring. Something surprising is always happening, damn it xD
I love that Kara was introduced. I think she'll become my new favorite character xD

This book was a lot better than the first few in the series. Some character development finally started happening and one of my favorite characters of this series, Kara was finally added to the mix.
As always the story is very entertaining, and I'm looking forward to the next one.

I still have 7 more books to read in this series, but as of this moment, this is my favorite book! And not just because it's the purple spine ;)

I absolutely loved the drama in this book! I was just more invested it and actually cared what was going to happen next, I could not wait to know what was going to happen next! Whereas, the first two books it was just entertaining, I was reading for the fun of it.

I was surprised to see that Tinsley is losing her shine in my eyes throughout this book. I was caught up in the glitz and glamour of Tinsley Carmichael in book 1 and 2. She was a bitch, but she had some "noble" purpose, like trying to help Callie get back at Jenny and E, but in this book I felt she was being petty just for the sake of being petty.

Brett, girl, why are you blowing up at Jeremiah?
"But if he loved her, how could he have slept with someone else?"
Umm was she not also going to sleep with Dalton if he hadn't dumped her for T? Seems a little hypocritical. Jeremiah is probably one of the only DECENT guys in this series, and she's just gonna let him go? Probably not his brightest idea or moment, but Brett made it seemed like he deserved death for doing it, when she isn't necessarily an angel either.

How Jenny didn't lash out at Callie is beyond me, although I am glad the girls are all starting to make up. The ending was quite sweet as well.

Everything seemed to have settled down by the end despite the bombs dropped at the party, and even Brandon managed to find some "happiness."

So with love triangles, blossoming romances, and more secrets the next book should be interesting.

I have no idea when I started this book except that I know it took a long time to read. I wanted fluff and that’s what I got. I haven’t been able to concentrate on any book anyways so I may as well read one that doesn’t really have content. Score! The storyline is relatively decent. The characters could be flushed out more, though I did start this series at the second book instead of the first. Maybe there was more heart to one of the main characters, Tinsley, in book number one? I will never know. Because I have no interest in going back to read it. I also don’t have the next book in the series (#4) but I have 5-7. Normally that would give me anxiety. I’m thinking it probably doesn’t matter too much in this case.

Rereading my favorite series from middle/high school for the guilty pleasure nostalgia.

This must have been my favorite book of the series growing up, or at least my most reread, because I remembered everything that was going to happen. The second I read "Trustee Weekend" on page 3, I just KNEW we were in for a treat. The drama and shenanigans that unfold during this weekend have stuck with me for 15+ years, to the point that I think about that Never Have I Ever game allllll the time. That scene is iconic to the series.

Hopefully we can continue this 5-star streak, and it doesn't head downhill from here... (if it does though, I'm perfectly fine considering this series only a trilogy...and also rereading said trilogy once a year...)

This book went sooo fast! I literally read it in an hour. It wasn't the best in the series but let me tell you this whole Easy romance triangle is getting complicated! I refuse to read the back of the books because they give WAY to much away. So DO NOT read the back of the books AHEAD of this one it'll destroy the books you still have to read! I just got this in the mail and now I have to wait AGAIN for the second one which hasn't even been sent out yet! Ugh!

But yes the romance in this book is getting hectic and makes me want to punch certain individuals but it will keep you entertained :)

This book really picks up on the character development and I’m living for it. We’re also finally introduced to Kara who I only very vaguely remember, so re-reading all of these feels new, which is fun. Also, you literally could not pay me to go back to being a teenager in high school. Anyways, I’m still living my best life re-reading this series.
