My reactions when I heard that Haidji's publishing a new book!
Haidji's stories and poems have always been the best of the best I can recommend to anyone.
Harables 2 is a unique and thoughtfully woven collection of short stories.
Each of these tales speaks volumes about how intelligently they might have been pondered upon.
Honored to have read an exceptional writer Haidji!
A collection of short stories can't be better than this.
She picks up the characters we can relate to easily and narrates you about them as if those characters are your best-friends.
They seem to real, so close, so true.
She stimulates the naughty yet innocent, laughing yet thoughtful kid inside you and formulates the sweet and caring equations that you didn't know existed.
As I already have said and I'll say it once more, her books are a blessing.
Reading Haidji's books is the super-duper Christmas gift I had received.
After reading it, I'm certain that Haidji possesses world-class qualities!
One of which is writing and another is representing it to the world!
Verdict : Having a tough day? Read Harables and forget what the word 'tough' is!
Haidji is one talented writer, she writes these amazing and unique stories. I definitely preferred some stories more than others, my favorite ones were candles and The Gondola walker. they were just beautiful and meaningful.
Stories I liked in this part 1. Pip 2. Lob's Castle 3. The Pine Tree 4. The Gondola Walker
Before I start my review I would like to apologize Haidji and my husband for ignoring these books for more than a year. In 2017 beginning my husband became so active in book blogging that I got excited to help him (as he got this bookworm-iness from me). So in excitation, I gave him a list of genres I can help him. He gave confirmation on my promise to few authors. "Harables: Short Stories 1 & 2" by Haidji were two of them. I still remember my husband giving me the deadline of 3 months while handing me thse two books. But later on, I got busy with my kid and was not able to finish 50-60% of the books I took. During this year Diwali cleaning I found these two books in the storeroom and I got guilty feeling so I took them on my vacation.
I would like to tell the author to come up with an attractive cover, another major reason for the delay in the review was the cover, I didn't get strong urge/appeal to read the book at first go.
When I started first part I was not sure whether I would be able to read second as well due to dull cover. But content or I would say amazing stories of part-1 made me jump to part-2.
Both books contain short gems (yes I would call story/poem gem, read the review to know why) with a different tone. Some were funny, some were cute, and many of them are thought-provoking. It will take you in a rollercoaster of various phases and emotions. Inspiring messages are the real reason I called there stories as a gem. And the icing on the stories are quotations given for each story as a crux.
The language usage is simple and narration style is straight and sweet. You may fall in love with many characters. I sure shot recommend to any genre lovers. Even if you don't like some stories, you can simply skip them.
I received this book for free from the author through LibraryThing. Having already read Harables Short Stories 1, I knew what to expect from Haidji's second book. Once again, the stories were unique and contained wonderful words-of-wisdom. My favorite story of them all was The Blue Spot.
As i said before , Haidji has a very special way with words . You feel the warmth of the story .
All the stories here were so sweet, and they all had a lesson to be delivered at the end of each one :
" Life is just a class filled with different kids doing the same or different things "
"No matter how good you are, How amazing your work is : if you don't value what you do , asking the right price for it , no one else will do it."
"Because sometimes , paradise can be there , close to you , every morning , inside your cup of coffee, bringing you joy and happiness"
The same as "Fancy & Adriaan" .it's very easy to go through and finish , i can picture myself reading it at the beach or in a nice garden under the sun .
It is overly a good book , it does not fall with my usual reads , yet i enjoyed it . i don't think the genre matters when you like the story .
I would recommend it to people going through reading slumps and wanting to start with something light and easy to get into , or anyone who wants to take a break and read something sweet and different .
the reason why i give it 4 stars is because it was a great collection of interesting short stories ; and i didn't struggle reading it nor get bored , we can all agree that that's something important when it comes to books .
And i want to thank Haidji for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review .
Harables Short Stories 2!!! first things first: Thanks so much to Haidji for sending this my way.
When I heard that there was a second Harables book, I was so freaking excited. Cause the first book was just so beautiful. I love everything that Haidji writes, her style is just so different and beautiful and artistic.
All these short stories had something magical about them. They make you think. They make you forget the world around you. I read most of the stories twice, just because I wanted to feel those words again.
I feel like my words aren't nearly good enough to review this book and the stories. You have to read them yourself, I highly recommend every book/every story Haidji has written.
A delightful little book of short stories. I enjoyed this collection of unusual short stories with a poetic touch to it. There's not just one story that I like - all of the stories are wonderfully written and I highly recommend picking up this book to gain insight into multiple story themes captured beautifully.
I really liked Haidji and the profound reflexion she put in her art. This one is combine metaphor with a philosophical explanation ending. I loved the philosophical part, the metaphor were a little bit less interesting to me, but still good. A writer with something to say!
Here is another collection of dreamy short stories by Haidji.
Her writing is delightfully different. I don’t think English is her native language since some of her turns of phrase are rather quaint and perhaps incorrect. But her style adds to her uniqueness.
At the end of each story Haidji extracts its main message/moral; she spells out for us what she wants us to understand. For example, “If you don’t value what you do, asking the right price for it, no one else will do it.”
Another example of her messages is: “Your dream is always there, always inside of you. Keep working on it, and you can go more far than you imagine you could.”
Perhaps I don’t really understand all of Haidji’s stories – perhaps I’m not romantic enough.
I love the story called “Candles”. Maddie’s grandmother asks her what she wants to be when she grows up. 6-year-old Maddie replies “Can I still be me? Am I not already who I am? Will I be someone else then?”
I remember when I was a small child I was afraid that when I grew up I would have to be a housewifely person like my mother. At that age, not knowing much of the world, I thought that all grown-up women had to be like this. I knew that was not me, and it would be frightful if I had to become like that.
Little Maddie continues to ponder, “Will I need to do the same for my whole life? The same thing every single day?” Her final decision is “I want to always be me.”
Another spark of wisdom – “Our present time is the only thing we truly possess in our lives. --- Our present moment. It is always there.”
Some of Haidji’s stories are about children, seen from their point of view.
One is about Paulette who was under house arrest for a reason she did not exactly remember. “The sun going down over the city was orange due to the air pollution, but this did not make the color less beautiful for Paulette.”
Paulette was being raised in a house that was far from peaceful, but she had peace within herself.
“Sitting on the branch of a tree, as high as she could be, No one could touch her, no house arrest; the sky was so close that she could almost touch her dreams.”
For those who are dreamy and romantic, or those who need more dreams and romance in their lives, I would recommend this dreamy, romantic, poetic collection of stories.”
I received a signed copy of this book from the author through a giveaway she had on LibraryThing; and the following is my honest opinion.
The author, Haidji, takes a quote, which can be considered the essence, from each of her 15 short stories and then expounds on it.
The best way to read each of these stories is not to rush through them, as you might miss something in the process; and to get the full impact of what Haidji is writing is to read it a second time. The reason for this I believe is her thought provoking style of writing, which is something you don’t read that often. There’s a certain wonderful mixture and balance in the detailed imagery that’s created in your mind, an imagery where you find yourself pondering over what you’ve just read.
A good adjective to describe these short stories is to say they’re quite enlightening. Enlightening to the extent that you’ll find yourself relating to the stories on a personal level.
For having given her readers a marvelous excursion of your own existence, I’m happy to give Haidji 5 STARS for her endeavor here.
Harables 2 is a follow on from the first book, a collection of short stories. Entering a new world with many beautiful meanings was possible as each tale was full of imagery and other poetic techniques. Each shorty story was unique and different, with meanful lessons behind them. Before the tales begun, they were introduced with a quote from the story and finished with the meaning behind the tale. For feature improvements, the full stops should be minimized. There was a lot of repeated full stops (...). I understand the use of them, but at various times it was over used and a coma could have been placed instead. Beside that, it was a well written and intriguing read. The continuation from the first book was present and were both simalar, which is good as its from the same volume. I would recommend both these books to anyone who fancies opening their mind and seeing things from a new perspective. If there were to ever be a third book, I'd be sure to read it.
“You rarely know what creates the beauty you see in front of you.”
Author, Haidji, writes with a subtle and artistic touch. These stories are stylishly written, skillfully drawn, lyrical and yet thought-provoking. Harables: Short Stories 2 is a collection of tales that imparts wisdom and demands reflection. I found myself absorbing the messages imparted rather than just reading for the sake of reading.
This book will take you on a compelling journey that will stay with you long after you have turned the last page. A book which has been beautifully written and is ultimately a book you simply can’t put down. I, for one, feel all the richer for having read it. There’s no doubt that this author is uniquely talented and I’ll be looking forward to reading more from her in the future.
If you are looking for something fresh, unique and imaginative, these short stories would come highly recommended from me. Five stars.
the book consists of 15 short story written by the author who this time focuses more on the feeling of letting things and persons go if they are departing from our lives.
the stories have an elevated feel to them bringing out the well known blast of emotions and the reader finds themselves starstruck in awe after reading the stories one by one.
my absolute favorite one was Pipo.
the stories are more in dept written than in the first selection, however the line up is different which I liked better in the first one as the seasons changed and the book was coming to a closure at the end with winter themed stories.
here we got winder themed story around the middle and it was a little jumbled.
however, the artists writing improvement does make me forget about the small detail that it isnt as seasonally packed as the first one.
My favorites: final destinations; candles; Lob’s castle; hypothetical world; the pine tree. I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
Thought provoking!
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. 15 very well written philosophical short stories (book). They were all very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. A very easy rating of 5 stars.
Thank you for the free self-published; Autographed; paperback book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)
Wow ! I loved reading this book so much so that I read it twice over ! A wonderful book that, like Harables 1, really made me THINK & FEEL. So much strength and wisdom between those two covers. Absolutely incredible !
HAIDJI is a wonderfully talented author with vision, strength and so much more that it really comes through making each one of her books an absolute must to read. I even read Harables 1 one more time. Both these books would be in my Favourites but I'm still learning how to get them there !
This is a great collection of short stories. Beautiful, unique writing. A must-read for fans of Haidji.
The collection seemed to be more based in reality rather than fantasy in comparison to the first collection. But the stories are still very interesting, acting as parables and teaching the reader various lessons about life. The writing is beautiful, as with all of Haidji's work. My personal favorite was "The Gondola Walker".
Just finished reading 'Harables: Short Stories 2' and I've a beautiful feeling after reading. They're not just stories, they are parables, with their moral and metaphors. A truly meaningful read, I must say! You can read a bunch of books but not to find the one which will inspire you to take a true mirror and look honestly at yourself... And I like Haidji's writing style - gentle, but honest; warm but powerful, influencing like a fresh morning shower. I like the moral in 'Based on a true story' and love metaphors in 'Final destination' and 'Candles'. 'The Blue Spot' is my story. 'The Dress' is a good lesson for all of us. 'The Pine Tree' - just beautiful, and 'Pipo' touched my heart and reminded about the main thing in life. It wasn't a 'fast read', but I enjoyed every 'sip'. Thank you, Haidji for your deep vision and your generous words of wisdom you share with the world... and with me, too. You're an Amazing Flower❤️
P.S.: what a nice surprise to find some charming poems in the book!
Once again I was not let down. Haidji is an amazing writer who knows just how to get you right in the feels. These stories tug on your heart strings and are absolutely adorable. They speak of good morals and manners.
I normally do not read short stories as you don't have time to get to know your characters. I didn't feel like that reading these. The characters were explained perfect for being short stories.
I give this book 5/5 because it was simply amazing. I loved it so much I couldn't even pick a favorite story. They were all so wonderful!
Excellent story telling and uplifting poetic appendices
This is a stirring collection of short stories that have a neat fable feel to them
Haidji digs deep into each character of each story, to display their soul. 'Lib's Castle' stands out for its gracious storytelling and virtue of patience promoting.
It's easy to get lost in each story, almost as though they are each novels in their own right!
I really enjoyed this book. Kind of reminded me of 'Zen Flesh, Zen Bones'. It is a compilation of short stories. Each story stands alone and conveys a moral or lesson. I did find a bit of a problem with some of the editing, but not such that it kept me from enjoying the book. This is definitely a book I will read again.
Harables: Short stories 2 is a literary treat...Haidji's writing is thought-provoking, reflective and there is a beautiful message conveyed in each of the stories. What I really appreciate is that the language chosen is simple and her writing style is infused with a meditative feel. I will recommend it if you are looking for some relaxing breezy reads to calm your mind.
Yet another amazing volume of collection of short stories. Loved this book as well with each story leaving a different message. I had fun reading this book and would recommend to everyone to read this one.
I truly love short story collections, they are perfect for quick reading sessions! I now have a new addition to my favorite authors of shorts, Haidji writes great short stories! Her stories are not only entertaining, they convey messages as well. This will not be my only collection by her!
This is another charming and enchanted book full of stories about life, love, friendship, dreams and as everything, you can relate of. The sweet narration in the collection of insightful stories is very good and beautifully crafted as each can give you a moral in life. Thus, it is truly a well-done book I have ever read, a modern generation of tell-tale stories.
In the fifteen stories told, I love the first one - Final Destination. It is something I can observe in my usual life. Might be in myself or in others. The thing is, it is always true that whether we take a different path in life, our last destination will never be changed - we will still arrive there in the end. It is on our hand how to choose the way through it. How adventurous, active, simple or normal it can be. It will be on us.
Between the peace of waiting for the elevator and the adventure of taking the stairs, what do you prefer? Haidji is really one of my favorites poet and author I've encountered that every work of hers are full of magical and artistic skills. I will never stop reading her books. She is a great creator of vivid imagery and as a painter, her stroke is the best to draw in your imagination. Thank you, Ms. Haidji for this another book of yours.
If you have time which I'm sure we do have, read this all day and you will feel good the next morning. I recommend this if you love to read some short stories and Haidji's Harables Short Stories is the best to start. Visit my review here >> https://descendantofposeidonreads.wor...
I'm not usually a fan of short stories but these weren't bad. In a way they were entertaining and cute with a lesson to be learned by the end. The writing style is very straight forward and repetitive in many places but if you take the time to read it the repetition becomes a way to cement something in the readers mind so it makes more sense when the lesson is explained at the end of the story.
