Feeling disillusioned and unloved, Jem decides to leave home and take his chances in London, but fate has a couple of twists in store for him. What’s meant to be an uneventful trip turns into a coming-of-age journey that teaches Jem that adulthood is not as easy as he might have expected, and life usually has a plan of its own.
To write a novel was a dream of mine since I was a child. Life, my practical nature, and self-doubt got in the way, so it was decades later that an opportunity to write finally presented itself. I honestly didn't think I had what it takes to write a full-length novel, but once I faced the blank screen and my fingers touched the keyboard, everything disappeared except my characters and their surroundings, and suddenly I knew that this was what I was born to do.
Since then, I've written many books and have enjoyed some positive reviews, but sometimes, when I stop to reflect, I'm still amazed that I'm living my dream.

A rather short, abrupt and illogical conclusion to such an important characters life. I very much doubt that one loved so much, would not have been in on the whole story. Better off not to have written this at all. Sorry, but otherwise, love the other 5 main books.
Another will written British 🏰 family and friends relationships adventure thriller short story by Irina Shapiro (A Wonderland Novella). Jem runs away from home to find his one way. He meets a young woman 🚺 and the two of them make it to London. There they go separate ways. Jem ends up ☝ in the army. I would recommend this novella and author to readers of historical novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading or listening to books 📚. 2023 😮👒
I read this to complete the Wonderland series, but as I should have known, the novella format wasn't very satisfying. It was just too short, and only a brief portion of Jem's life is revealed, with no real connection to the Wonderland series other than the fact that Jem appeared in the earlier volumes. It appears to me that there will be other books or novellas about Jem. It's not a bad story, but just too short for me.
I enjoyed this bonus coming of age novella sent in the Wonderland time traveling world. Since he was such an important secondary character, I loved learning what happened to Jem after he was no longer in Neve, Hugo, Archie and Frances’ lives and had left his father’s estate. Despite being short, the novella was well written and included characters with dimension and an engaging storyline.
What a surprise to find this novella! It was short, but also fascinating. Irina Shapiro has become my favorite author, and I have read almost all of her books. It's a real pleasure to discover an additional book in the series such as this one and also The Hands of Time.
I certainly hope she continues to write about these characters.
I did not finish the story. Although others had clamored for a follow-up for Jem, I lost interest in him soon after his rescue by Hugo and Archie from the slums of London. This story did not rekindle the interest, and I found myself disliking his traveling companion more and more as the story wore on. So I just closed the boom and moved on.
The wonderland series was so good. You never knew what was coming. The characters were so well crafted that you were bonded with them and concerned about their situations. I thoroughly enjoyed reading these books. Treat yourself to an adventure and read the series.
I found the Novella disappointing because I loved Jem and the Wonderland series, and short novella of his future was disappointing. The animated voice was not bad and the story was well written, but I guess I wanted him to go off with the Everly‘s in the end of it all. Still worth the read and listen.
Great story of Jem’s life although I wish it was longer. I want to know more, see his character grow. Maybe you can bring him back if you revisit the time period and reunite him with Archie. Or let him time travel now that he has grown into manhood. Still a great quick read that fills in one of the questions as to what about Jemmy ?
Truly wonderful to see that Jem finally found his place in the world . And will be reunited with the Everly's . Can't believe that there will not be more to come in the future.
I loved this series. I didn't like how Jem's journey ended. I needed to know more. Is there another book to this series? I totally would recommend this author to many. I'm getting ready to start another set!
Jem left home to go to London. Soon he found it hard to get work. Going to the castle to see if he would luck there. He was thrown into service. Luck is that Jem enjoyed it.
Loved the story but it was far too short and offered no depth so I was disappointed 😞 and at the price I paid for this which was similar to others I had read as Jems story is a continuation of these
Wow. As good as the others were, this one was just awful! Why bother writing it at all if you were gonna half-ass it? Absolutely no closure for Jem’s character and a complete and total waste of time to read it. At least it was free.
I have loved all of this series, but I wish it could carry on? I want Jem to go to the 20th century! I want Hugo to get his estate back, I want so much more for this family and I want to keep reading 😁
Jem has found his footing in life, we don’t know if he will stay in the Kings army or come home to stay or find the opening to the future in the crypt room at the church be reunited with Hugo, Neve, Archie, Francis
This could have been so much better if it had been a full-on book rather than an 85 page short story. Jem deserved a much more detailed novel to tell his story.
