Taking Chances

Rate this book
It’s easier to take a chance when someone’s holding your hand.

Jake Marsden has been going to a local anxiety support group meeting for months. He’s made some progress, but it's a slow, frustrating journey. Then a shy glance from a gorgeous newcomer across the room promises to make him forget about his problems for a while. He worries that dating will be a challenge until he can deal with his fear, but there's no way he can pass up the opportunity to get to know this man.

Chance Ritter doesn't want to go to the group, but his best friend and college classmate drags him there for his own good. When the handsome, dark-haired man across the circle stands and talks, Chance can barely look away. He daydreams of something he doesn’t believe he’ll ever have because he’s afraid to take that kind of a risk.

Drawn together from the moment their gazes lock, they may be able to overcome the past and take a chance on each other.

Taking Chances is a full-length, stand-alone contemporary gay romance novel with two gorgeous, anxious college students, a stuffed dinosaur, a shockingly ugly truck, and a guaranteed happy ending.

(Warning: There are references to past violence in this story, though none occurs during the course of the book.)

I wasn't sure about this book at first. I wasn't clicking with the MCs at all. I'm glad I hung in there.
Great book. Another along the lines of my favorite types....hurt/comfort...mental illness (yes anxiety is a mental illness). Two people learning to trust each other and ultimately helping each other to overcome their past demons.

I loved the best friends, I loved the lil' sis. Good character development.

Just a question that was bothering me... Just curious...

Great read. My first for this author, won't be my last.

Omg

Omg what to say about this book. I fell in love with the story and with the characters. I loved that they weren't perfect but still tried to help each other more than themselves. You have to read this book! You won't regret it!

I loved this story.

Both Jake and chance have experienced traumatic events in their lives. This tells the story of how having the right support system and how trusting someone to love you can help you deal with the event easier.

Jake and chance didn't rush into healing or loving each other. They grew with each other.

I enjoyed this gay male romance about two people who meet in an anxiety therapy group. Both have to deal with their own issues before committing to a relationship.
Typos: a few punctuation problems, a couple missing words, also "used to" is written "use to."

Jake and Chance are both sweet but damaged people. Coming together is equally sweet. I also like how the story unfolds so the reader doesn't learn what their afraid of and why until the characters are ready to talk about it and to confront their fears.

Delightfully pleased. This story was incredibly good. Filled with challenges, confronting and overcoming fear and finding true love. Already eager to read more beautiful stories from Shelley.

Taking Chances is a sweet book, centering two young guy, who have scars to live with. Anxiety is part of their daily lives.

This book is not only light and lovely, it shows that living with anxiety or panic is a constant war that one keep fighting with oneself.
All the small wins, little steps that seems casual to everyone else, are huge achievements.
Having someone who truely understand, accept and support you through all this is greater than life.

But real life is not as sweet as novels are.
People are not so tolerant and tend to judge anyone who doesn't live up to their standards.

It was bittersweet to see Jake an Chance having the deep bond they had -almost instantly- and the courage to believe and trust.

Well, the story is not as gloomy as I am, not at all!
It's cute and funny and left a very positive impression in me.

Chance and Jake's story thaught me an important lesson: we all need a Marvin in our lives!

I liked this pretty well. Chance and Jake met at a meeting of people who have anxiety about various things. They went to the same college but had never seen each other around campus. The story was about them slowly (maybe too slowly) revealing what triggered their anxieties. Of course, they were each other's answer to overcoming their triggers.

Chance and Jake are so adorable. Everything about their story was great. As a person dealing with anxiety and being terrified of driving on freeways, I really felt for both of them. They made such a wonderful couple.
