Alexa O’Brien is fighting a losing battle with the dark power growing inside her as she struggles to cope with the absence of her wolf mate, Shaz. There’s no time to feel sorry for herself. She must find a way to stop Lilah, a demon queen hell bent on forcing Alexa to willingly surrender her blood to break a centuries old curse. With her power bound, Lilah is ready to play dirty. Even if it means killing Alexa’s wolves, one by one.
It isn’t easy to stay a step ahead of the demon, especially with the FPA on her case. The government organization is to blame for the disappearance of vampire, Kale Sinclair. When she looks into his whereabouts, the discovery of some shady secrets paints the FPA in a whole new light.
Alexa’s vampire lover and twin flame, Arys Knight, doesn’t quite see things her way. The conflict between Arys and Alexa grows hot when Arys wants to ally with Shya, a demon with his own sinister agenda. But Alexa can only deal with one demon at a time. Nothing else matters when Lilah targets someone deeply important to her. Alexa will do anything to make it right, including walking straight into the demon’s clutches.
I am the author of the Alexa O’Brien Huntress and the Rebel Heart series. I write urban fantasy that is dark and gritty with a twist of romance and horror but which is ultimately about people in dark places discovering who they are and what they’re made of.
I’ve been writing since the age of 9 when I had a Christmas themed short story published in the local town paper. A lover of rock music, vampires and muscle cars, I’m a dreamer who always secretly wanted to be a rockstar.
I love to hear from readers so don’t hesitate to drop me a line.
This book was a great addition to the series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Part of the reason I loved this book was no Shaz until the very end. The threesome seems to be very popular in PNR. Honestly Im not a fan of them. So it was exciting to see just Arys and Alexa together. We got to see a vulnerability in the both of them as a couple and individuals. It just made me love them more. This book had everything fabulous that makes this a terrific series. I laughed, didnt cry but was sorrowed, was scared (more creepy hospital - enough said), tore my hair out when characters were being stupid, fanned myself from steamy A&A scenes and just smiled. Gosh, Alexa is such a kick-butt character. You can't help but cheer for her. She has so much going on, I look forward to seeing how it is all revealed. Im cant wait for the next book. Im a little nervous as to what direction it may go. 1. a continuation of the threesome 2. its not going to add to the plot in any major capacity Regardless I will def read it. I need to know what happens to these characters. Hope there are many more books to come.
Seriously, this series gets better and better with each new book the author puts out. There were moments when I was giddy, moments when I wanted to scream, cry and curse the author, and moments where I just waited at the edge of seat wondering what in the world would happen next. I literally couldn't put this book down. I loved it! Can't wait for the next one.
Book 6 and this series is getting better. It was a joy to revisit these characters, who I enjoy a lot. These characters are they are flawed, are what they are and don't try to be or pretend that they are something they are not and make no apologizes it.
There is such a mix in this book, fallen angels, vampires, demons, shifters what more could a fan of the genre want?
The story twist and turns, keeping the reader on their toes. There is the occasional, did the author just really do that? Followed by a wee bit of cussing. (But that might just be me) Definitely a great read.
I just love this series. However I get so frustrated I want to throw my kindle into the wall. Sheesh!! I am so mad at Kale it is unbelievable. I think Arys is allowing his fear to make his decisions. Alexa is being very sloppy and allowing others to pay for her mistakes. I mean I thought she would learn from her mistakes but no she just keeps making them over and over again.
I love this series because Alexa is a strong female character that allows us to feel that way. I like the way she stands up to bullies. I also like that she is confident and tempermental. The flaws these characters portray allow us to realize that no one is right or wrong just imperfect.
I totally want people to read this series and particularly this book.
I love that we get to see more of Jez and less of Kale in this one!!! And basically NO SHAZ!!! Which pretty much made the book that much better for me! His first and only lines had already made me grind my teeth in annoyance. >___< If there has to be a "threesome" type deal, I say let it be between Arys, Alexa, & JEZ!!!! LOL! OR Willow could be the third wheel! ;p
I liked how this ended. It wasn't too heavy of an ending or too light. It had the right tone, which wasn't easy considering all that happened leading up to the last few pages of the book. Looking forward to book seven.
Hopefully by then there won't be a comma after every "and", "but", and "or" that begins a sentence! I usually restrain myself from commenting on the editing but this has driven me crazy for all the books and novellas now.
Alexa is so frustratingly idiotic, in the first few chapters we see her meet Brogan and Gabriel to do a spell and crack open the secret files on Verys’s computer, Gabriel mentions that “With power like yours, you could easily do stuff like this on your own. If you learned a few spells.” And to no surprise, her response is “no thanks I’ll leave that to you guys I’m more of a point and shoot type of gal” yeah all fucking brawn, irresponsibility and not one ounce of brain. She has the chance to master her dark energy and harness it more deeply, hence giving her more control. We never see her train with magic, we never see her actually actively try, and then she’s shocked when it overwhelms her and the bloodlust claims her? Her refusing to partner with Shya and getting upset at Arys for wanting her to, is hypocritical because not long ago, she disregarded Arys’s feelings and partnered with Harley for help. There’s no logic. She is exceedingly arrogant and never uses her connections to their disposal. I don’t understand how she has a flock of men wanting her when her itty bitty brain is almost teenager-like. That aside, I enjoyed this book a lot more because Shaz is out of the way. Alexa is weak for not being able to let him go after such a huge betrayal, he truly is the one thing holding her back from discovering her true potential.
Honestly, I love Ary's, more so than Shaz. Maybe its the age thing, even with Ary's being the "bad" guy, he's the best guy. How can Alexa be mad most of the book, because Ary's wanted to protect her. She was just too emotionally immature in this book for me, I hope the next book she grows up some. Other then that, I really enjoy the action in the book, the suspense and mystery of what Shya is up to... What is in the files? Those are the things that keeps me reading the series. If we you want suspense, action, good fighting, steamy sex scenes this is the series for you. You just have to ignore the over the top tantrums of the heroine.
This book was really good and it was very emotional, Trina did a good job making it where she wanted it and I give her credit. Drowning of what is going on with Alexa's emotions it kind of hurts but than again seeing what she wants is hard. I give this book a five-star and the Arthur did a hell of a job writing this book. Recommend to my friends that they have to read to understand stand of what is happening.
I just love this series. Alexa has a lot of battles on her hands. She's also fighting the darkness within herself and also being a twin flame with Arys. This series always keeps me on the edge of my seat. Love all the characters and the drama they bring. On to the next book.
I really enjoyed all the action. I have to admit that I was wanting her to turn into a vampire at the end. And I was disappointed that Shaz came back. I like it when it's just Alexa and her dark vampire.
Alexa sure knows how to make a complicated life deadly, especially for her friends as well as for her enemys. Faced paced, twisted and action packed with avarice of hot and strengthen in to. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Over all I would say this is perhaps one of the better offerings in this series although I have to admit there were still a few things that were significant speed bumps in my suspension of disbelief.
Alexa continues to be a frustrating dichotomy of codependency and monster narcissism , with a driving need to save the world from monsters juxtaposed next to a driving need to tear throats out and revel in blood and lust. She continues to self destructively yearn for relationships with people who abuse her, leaving a distaste in my mouth that I can't quite rinse out with the understanding that there is something else very subtle going on that is barely alluded to.
The personal journey regarding the long story arc, finding out what Alexa is and how her relationship with Arys is a part of that, made significant strides in this book. There are also big happenings and reveals that will effect the long story line, life changing events.
That said, there were still plot pacing devices that were so transparent they were stumbling blocks. Don't spend half the book showing me that the bad guy is killing people in the protags life, making it so that finding and stopping the bad guy is the driving force of the story, and then when you find the bad guy go into the confrontation by choosing not to take the only weapon that will work against the bad guy because "you just want to talk this time." What? She just decapitated two of your people and promised to continue doing it until you cooperate and you want to TALK it out? Unbelievable.
It seemed as if the confrontation came too fast and so this implausible situation was written to extend the story. It was uncharacteristic and not a smooth part of the story at all.
Still, when the ultimate confrontation happened later in the book it was action packed and satisfying.
I am currently rereading this exceptional series in anticipation of the next book in the series Sinister Pretty, due out in February. Alexa O'Brien is once again caught up in a struggle between her two worlds and Trina Lee does an excellent job of exploring the intricate balance between dark and light. This novel is filled with lots of thrilling plot twists that have you helplessly turning the page to find out what happens next. Even though i have read this entire series once, it is still a great read the second time around. For those of you that are new to this series, don't forget to check out the novellas that accompany this series. It is a lot more fun reading it in order including the novellas!!!! Thank you to Trina Lee for her devotion to this series and for making such interesting scenarios so absolutely believable!!!!
TEAM KALE: Am I the only one who wants more of Kale??!?! Is it too much that I want a happy ending for him??? I love Ary's to death (pun intended - hahaha) but I want Kale to get his happily ever after!!! UGH!
This story was wicked! So. action packed I literally had to put the book down a couple of times and recover lol I enjoyed learning more about everyone. Cannot wait until the next one comes out. Really enjoying this series alot (:
I think this is my favorite so far in the series. I admit I did not miss Shaz, he is not one of favorite characters. I liked that we got to see more of Jez I think she may be my favorite after Arys. Can't wait to start the next book.
I have to say this is my favorite one. Though Alexa still struggles with her choices she is at least finally figuring out what she is capable of. Another great installment
