ANGER MAN a fast-paced thriller by Roy Chester is the second in a new series of crime thrillers which can be read as standalone books. Having recently read and reviewed the first book in this series, 'The Toy Breaker', I was anxious to read this.
THE DETECTIVES: David Mallory is an old-school policeman who has made some powerful enemies within his own department. DCI Gary Falcon is an ambitious young man on the rise, but his father’s legal work for the city’s criminal does not play well with his fellow officers.
THE PROFILER: Dr. Hannah Nightingale an up-and-coming forensic psychiatrist. The Nightingale family are prominent in the Garton social scene and Hannah has to fight hard to be accepted by a skeptical police force.
The setting for this novel is in the fictional city of Garton in the north west of England.

A thrilling book with in depth facts about profiling, plenty of twists and turns to satisfy the reader and believable characters. I found I felt sorry for Anger Man, for what he went through in his past, and I understand the attraction between Mary and Anger Man. I'm looking forward to no. 3 in the series: PREY, which is next on my list.
Highly recommended.

Anger Man is the 2nd book in the series and is another very intense, adrenaline filled journey into one man's sense of guilt and thirst for revenge.
Detective Supt. David Mallory, DCI Gary Falcon are joined again by Dr Hannah Nightingale, to identify the Anger Man and what is behind his need to kill One of the key elements to this case is an historical investigation regarding a dark subject that has yet again been dealt with sensitively.
The characters are becoming more fleshed out and a few new characters are introduced into the investigative team. There is even a little romance promised for some character(s)!
Roy Chester definitely know how to end a book with an adrenaline filled finale. Onto book 3.

This is the second Roy Chester (Dr Hannah Nightingale) novel that I have read, the Anger Man being an intense, adrenaline filled foray into one man's sense of guilt and thirst for revenge.
We again see Detective Supt. David Mallory, DCI Gary Falcon and Dr Hannah Nightingale join forces to reveal who the Anger Man really is and what is driving his need to kill, especially so frequently. They are contacted by a Mary Langdale, via her Psychiatrist, an exceptionally unwell mental health patient who holds the key to the investigation but is very fragile. Does Mary know who the Anger Man is and what his motives for the kills are? One of the elements to the case is an historical investigation regarding a pedophile group called The Ring which left an indelible stain on the city of Garton and was tied to a senior member of the Garton Police.
I must say that in this instance I really felt for the antagonist Anger Man, he was certainly hard done by. The characters David Mallory and Gary Falcon are becoming more fully fleshed and it was wonderful to see hard man David softening around the edges with the start of a romance. I will say again that I'm not really invested in Dr Hannah Nightingale - she seems so hard and clinical most times and it's hard to pin her down. It's a major obstacle to dance around with the series being based on her, however, the police officers more than make up for the shortfall.
Anger Man has one of the most adrenaline filled endings I have read in a long time and I heartily recommend it for fans of police procedurals who like a big bang for their finale.

Mary tells a story of being a victim of The Ring ... of men who took kids out of kids who were taken care of by the state. Men who took these kids into a dark room with a camera. Men who were well connected in the community ... including some police who covered for them.

This is one of the few times I have felt empathy for a really bad guy. The reader gets to see the relationship that Mary and Anger Man had when they first met as children in a home. The reader learns why it took years for him to act out.
Hannah and the Detectives are working hard to get ahead of the killer. But the killer's rages seem random, never knowing when they may happen or where. And then he turns his attention to the police ....
Roy Chester is a relatively new author to me. I did read The Toy Breaker and enjoyed his writing, so was pleased to have the opportunity to read this second book in the series.
It's a well-written fast-paced thriller with finely drawn characters.

This is the second book in the series featuring Detective David Mallory and Dr Hannah Nightingale. Apart from a couple of mentions of the previous case, it does read well as a stand alone.
I liked how the story starts off and it had me hooked throughout. It’s very relevant sadly in today’s world with child sex rings. The author doesn’t go into any detail though where that subject is involved but you can still feel the horrors coming through from the victims of the abuse.
This is one of those stories where I felt sorry for the killer. It’s one which makes you question what they are doing and whilst not agreeing with their actions, you can understand some of them. Even so, it causes a major headache for the police

Book #2 in the Dr Hannah Nightingale series and it's just as good as the first, this one deals with the murders of 3 different men over 3 consecutive sundays and if, and how, they're connected.
Throw in 'The Ring' a paedophile network involving a number of childrens homes in the area that had been operating for about 5 years before someone turned whistle blower. Some senior members of the social services and a high ranking police officer were involved and this become more than it seems.
More information comes to light which implicates The Ring in more than it seems and Dr Hannah and the team have to figure out that puzzle plus who is killing people.
More backstory of the characters here and the steady pace towards the conclusion.

The 2nd book in the Hannah Nightingale series is a compelling read even though the subject matter is depressing. Hannah, the profiler and David , the Detective are hard on the heels of a killer who has killed 3 people in 3 weeks, every one on a Sunday. The press has called him Anger Man. A young woman from a mental facility, Mary, contacts the police and tells them she knows the identity of the perpetrator.
Without giving away too much, this seems to be revenge against a group of child abusers who targeted vulnerable teens from mental institutions.
Hannah is a smart, sensitive woman and David Mallory is also very sympatico. Those 2 work well together.
Anger Man is hard to dislike, I felt very sad for him and wished Mary and he could live happily ever after, but obviously it's not to be.
A thrilling book with interesting facts about profiling, I'm looking forward to no. 3 in the series: PREY, which is next on my list.

Anger Man by Roy Chester Anger Man by Roy Chester is a compelling mystery, thriller that kept me intrigued from start to finish. I gave it four stars because it kept me guessing. Even though it is the second in a series, it could be read as a standalone book.
It was a sad story with no easy solutions.
I received a complimentary Kindle copy from Joffe Books and NetGalley. That did not change my opinion for this review.

Anger man
Wow what a roller coaster of a ride with this book it grips y o u from the very f first chapter having said that I was griped after the prologue it's fast paced exiting gripping and very well written I am truly hooked on the Mallory series of book and would definitely recommend them its a really gripping thriller that takes you to the edge of your seat story believable everything y out want in a very good thriller and more, do not miss out you must read this book, however one thing you will miss out of is sleep you just will not want to put this book down

Another good read by Roy Chester
The main characters are all settling in and their strengths and weaknesses being put out for us to look at.
Again I was pleasantly surprised when what I thought was going to be a typical revenge plot, developed into a rather good read. I guessed the perpetrator but just as I thought it was all over, bang!

A gripping story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and I love the way it finishes properly, so many stories end with a cliff hanger which puts me right off, this author has got it right, a complete story with great characters that carry on to the next book, and my word what brilliant books they are.

Not as good as The ToyBreaker
But still a great read. Another trait this book had in common with ToyBreaker is it needed proof reading before release. They weren't world ending mistakes, but annoying all the same.

Anger Man
Hannah Nightingale is called in by Garton Police to help them with another case. There people connected with a paedophile ring have been murdered, and one man seems responsible. Anger Man as the police dub him soon makes life difficult for the police and the town of Garton.
Another excellent book by Roy Chester which kept me gripped all the way through.
Highly enjoyable.

I have just read book 1 in this series and was excited to realise there are more to read. Half way through book 1 I went and our head this - book 2. It was great reading these books back to back and I’m excited that I have book 3 to start.

Not a bad serial killer murder mystery. Mallory, Falcon & Dr nightingale investigate a series of murders after they get a tip-off that they are all connected. It leads to a historic child sex abuse case, corrupt cops, and eventually a mentally disturbed soldier and his fragile girlfriend.
The police & nightingale all have interesting back-stories, but I don't think I found this one as intriguing as the previous one.

Review
Another writer to look out for in future books, my list is growing. This book had me gripped from start to finish, I could not put it down. I am now going to read The Toymaker. I do hope that it will not be long before Roy Chester delivers book 3. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a really suspenseful, gripping, well written thriller.

Finally i have got around to reading 'Anger Man' which which had me gripped from start to finish. Many twists and turns, which had me guessing. I will be reading more books by Roy Chester.

Another enjoyable story. I still feel frustrated at the lack of humor. It was nice to see some characterisation of the main characters as currently, they are not coming across as personable.

WONDERFUL, COMPLEX, STRONG CHARACTERS, GREAT STORY
Roy Chester is a very talented novelist. This book is IMPOSSIBLE to put down. The central story is one of tragedy, lost hope, military incompetence, and supposedly " Disposable People. But. The enjoyment in reading a novel is not defined by it's subject matter. It is defined by it's literary merit. Books about such unsavory things as serial killers, untreated mental illness, ass-saving politics and deep-seeded revenge are entertaining and enjoyable because of the level at which the story and the characters ENGAGE. GOOD WRITING is what makes a book a GOOD book. Makes it good reading. Because an ethical, empathetic, COMPLEX writer knows that there are, in cases of severe abuse, no clear-cut evils or villains. Abusers are abusers because they were abused. The sole motivation behind, particularly, violent revenge, is misdirected love. War warps more minds than any other kind of death. It's purpose is organized, intentional, murder and torture. Soul-numbing acceptance of random, motivationless carnage, of killing made heroic, of barbarism as "just another day". The mentally ill are either ignored, locked out of sight, or taken advantage of by heart-dead bureaucrats and sexual predictors who do not see the reasonably insane as human. Death is not an atrocity, it is an answer. And, any book that sheds light on these off-site truths is to be treasured as a courageous truth teller. To be surrounded by these truths, illuminated by a fascinating story and vivid characters GETS TO BE an enjoyable experience. An entertainment. Because an author who understands how society is defined and "organized" by the church, the psychiatrists, the medical community, politicians, and those involved in what they laughingly consider "The Law", are all out for themselves. Merely themselves. "Truth" is something to be manipulated, presented to us, and blindly accepted by us. Why else will the White House, in a "DEMOCRACY", contain, as the most powerful person on earth, someone who is legitimately insane? Megalomaniacal? On the edge of dementia? A man who lies, openly and proudly, as effortlessly as he cheats? Whose moral compass fell through a hole in his school shorts when he was three years old? Who's "Presidency", presented and supported by the merely opportunistic, and accepted and followed by far too many previous-Americans, as "real"?
Writing is facing the chaos that envelops us then daring to at least attempt to expose it and shape it into something that life itself is not. Coherent. Just. Plausible. Enlightening. This truth, of course, requires well-written prose, well-defined characters, using both horror and humor and perspective. It is a document, usually, that recognizes "justice" as the rarest of outcomes. But, justice occurs far more regularity in books, especially in good books, far more frequently than it occurs in life. Good books allow us to both confront and forget (for a while, at least) what we are powerless to confront and forget what happens, often so randomly, in our own lives. In a godless world, there is art. There IS humanity. There are those most glorious, selfish and delightful creatures known as "children". Broadway composer Stephen, as is often the case, wrote a song about what, when we pass, we leave behind. A song called "Children And Art"
Well, Mr. Chester is an artist. A story-teller and a truth-teller, who skillfully writes completely entertaining and compelling books.
He is to be read and enjoyed. Just that. Enjoyed. And, if, while we are enjoying his book's, we come across the occasional fundamental human truth? All the better!

Having recently read and reviewed the first book in this series, 'The Toy Breaker', I was keen to read this.
I liked the detective team centred around detectives Mallory and Falcon. Add into the mix Hannah Nightingale as a criminal profiler and you have an intriguing mix.
The theme for the book is set through a fast-paced prologue. It is a case which stems from an historic child abuse case. The setting is in the fictional city of Garton in the north west of England.
I will be careful not to spoil the story, but suffice to say there are plenty of twists and turns.
Abuse within the care system,
Is somebody out for revenge?
Can all the police be trusted, or do some have skeletons in the cupboard?
Why is there military interest in the cases?
How high up does the interference from outside the police go?
I thought I knew the answers, but then…..

Anger Man was the first book I'd read by the author, Roy Chester.
In general, I enjoyed the book but there were a few things that niggled me.
There were a few occasions where it felt things were being explained to make it clear to the reader what was happening but because it was done conversationally between characters, it came off as a bit awkward at times. In reality certain scenarios wouldn't need to be explained between those type of professionals - maybe it's just me?! Had it been done as a narrator, I think it would have made more sense and maybe flowed a bit better.
The other point (albeit small) was the chapter where Hannah's friends were mentioned. There were only two but one of them was also called Hannah. This made the chapter really confusing as it took a few attempts to work out which of the Hannah's was talking.
Having said that, I enjoyed the story and felt empathy for the killer (which is rare) and one where I wanted a happy ending between him and his girlfriend even though I knew there wouldn't be one.
I also really liked the way the author depicted Hannah and Mallory's characters.
