HE WAS SEXY AS SIN AND AS HOT AS THE DEVIL. HOW COULD I REFUSE?
Charlotte
It was a simple job, if an unusual one: get the nephew of an outlaw king to start giving a damn about his life again. I've tackled harder. I've done worse. This was going to be a cake walk. At least, that's what I thought. Then Ben Wiseman walked in, and everything changed.
Before I know it, I'm drowning in emotions I've never felt before. Lust. Longing. And oh God, I hope it isn't… Love?
I'm in far, far too deep. I'm just praying I make it out alive.
Ben
What the hell's the point? I don't want any of this. The drugs, the guns, the women. Let someone else take over the Highway Titans MC. I just don't care.
But my uncle is relentless. He's tried everything to get me to follow in his footsteps. Now, he's down to his last straw. And damn, what a straw that is.
Charlotte steps foot inside the clubhouse and my world kicks into a whole new gear. I want her like I've never wanted anything. I want to run my tongue between her legs, to make her moan 'til the rafters shake. And I'm going to have her, even though she's the last woman on earth I belong with.
It doesn't matter what's right and what's wrong. There's no denying the call when you're tempted by the devil.
TEMPTED BY THE DEVIL is a full-length, standalone romance novel with steamy hot sex, strong language, a happily every after ending, and NO CLIFFHANGERS. Contains dark and disturbing themes, and over-the-top sexiness that may be uncomfortable for some readers.
Perfect for fans of Sam Crescent, Jenika Snow, L Wilder, Sabrina Paige, Lauren Landish, Vanessa Waltz, Jordan Marie, and Nicole Snow.
Includes a sneak preview of my bestselling MC romance, PURSUIT.
I've read a shit ton of books. I've loved some, hated some, as well as fallen somewhere in between. When it comes to romance novels, in my experience at least, there's a plethora of books that that bring the spice but fall flat everywhere else. The sex scenes may smolder yet there is little to no (or poorly written) plot. Not uncommon. What IS uncommon though, are books like Tempted by the Devil by Cora Black. For me, it was the EXACT OPPOSITE.
I'm a sucker for MC books and while not created equally, I'm always willing to give them a shot, with my fingers crossed of course. I loved the intro. Our heroine, Charlotte, finds herself on the side of a back road with a blown tire. Along comes Uncle Wally and his MC to save the day. A deal is made, as Uncle Wally has someone in need of saving as well, and so it goes...
THE PROS-The dynamic between Ben and Uncle Wally. The rough, tough love, that is sprinkled throughout was nicely done. I would liked to have gotten more of a back story there. Those two needed more scenes together. They were my favorite, hands down. Noah was another character that I felt drawn to and just like with Uncle Wally, Ben's character really shined in scenes with this seemingly misplaced 'kid'. Another pro was Ben's vulnerability. The only problem is, it wasn't consistent. At one point, it had depth, it was intriguing and pulled me. Two seconds later, he's a petulant man-child who needs to be put in time out and possibly medicated. There's a healthy dose of high drama, angst and even true romance...in part.
THE CONS-Hands down, the WORST SEX SCENES IN THE HISTORY OF EVER, and there's a lot of it. It was cringe worthy, stomach churning, over the top cheese that I just could not deal with. Words fail me to fully express just how bad it was. It's what nightmares (and bad 70's porn) are made of. Do people really say these things? Do people really talk, yammer on THAT MUCH? Moving on. Another con was the sheer silliness of it all. Again, the idea, the attempt, had great promise. The delivery however didn't quite work. Charlotte was stepping into a foreign, sometimes dangerous and volatile, world that she knew nothing about and for a reason that would not be acceptable in that culture. Yet she can't wait to spill her shit to the first MC side piece who offers her a smoke?! Just like that and with no backlash? Come on now. She's cute, okay fine. So cute that no one bats a lash when this stranger sits in on literally EVERY SINGLE MOVE this MC conducts? Every deal and they, as well as the MC's they do business with, are all OK with it?! Again, COME ON! Finally, my last con of note is Ben and Charlotte's relationship. It felt creepy and wrong. They're relatively the same age but more times than not, it felt like she was his mother. It wasn't sexy. It wasn't cute. It wasn't for me.
Ben is on the fast track to losing himself completely. His drinking and fighting is out of control. The uncle that raised him is the President of the MC and wants him to take over, but Ben can't do that because he's self destructing. So his uncle hires Charlotte (a parole officer and counselor) to try to get through to Ben. Charlotte doesn't know the meaning of the words "no" or "quit." Plus the chemistry between her and Ben is off the charts HOT. So hang on to your kindle for the ride!
The story line was really good unfortunately the over use of introspection made the book drag on and on, so much so I almost threw it away, only my OCD prevented me.
A great story in true MC tradition...highly recommended!
This book was given to me as an ARC by the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.....This is a great story in the true MC tradition...Charlotte Howard is a feisty, independent parole officer who provides private counselling as a sideline..helping youngsters find a purpose in life. A chance encounter with the leader of the Highway Titans MC results in her agreeing to counsel the leaders nephew who is also the 'heir apparent' to the MC leadership role. Ben Wiseman is a typical alpha, biker who is heavily involved in Club business; however a tragedy in the past has left him disillusioned and dissatisfied with his life and the club. The Club needs a new leader and whilst Ben is the obvious choice there are others in the background who want to take control and are prepared to take any steps necessary to do so. The men may be tough bikers but Charlotte is no slouch and fights her own battles both physically and through the power of her words. From the first encounter there is friction between the two but there is also an attraction and the scene is set for a story filled with anger, regret, jealousy, fear of commitment and love. Will Ben step up or bow out? And will Charlotte finally find a place to belong? Answers to these questions and more are revealed by the end but it is a torturous journey for both protagonists. This was a great read with some dark subject matter, as I would expect from a biker book, but there is also a lot of light with captivating encounters between Charlotte and Ben as well as very hot dirty sex! A thoroughly enjoyable and addictive read.
This didn't feel like an MC book. It was- but wasn't. I'm not even sure how to make that make sense.
Ben was too whiny and insecure. I wouldn't want to follow him either, knowing he would be overtaking the MC. Then there were times he was a jackhole. I hated it when he and Charlotte had sex. They were wild, crazy, way too rough- and it was explained in too much detail. Eventually I had to skim or skip that junk. Ben relied too much on Charlotte, and her approval.
Charlotte- what the hell is she thinking? She is a parole officer, for crying out loud! It sounds like she is a poor P.O., who needs the funds that Ben's uncle offers her. She takes it, then she's so freely able to clear her calendar of other cases for long periods of time? She even convinces Ben to take her on his dangerous errands every day? Yeah- I don't think so. At least not in other biker books. And I really hated that the last place he took her, which was really him trying to scare her off.
I did love that this was outside of the norm of biker genre- it just didn't really do anything for me. Also, I wanted to smack Ben around for using Charlotte so much, but not getting over his dead ex, like he was still in a relationship with her. He needed therapy to over come that- yet Charlotte also becomes his therapist???? Charlotte also was stupid and should have talked to the uncle and Ben about another club member, instead of running off.
So, in the end- not my favorite biker book, but I give the author props for taking this genre outside of the usual story.
I read this book as an ARC! Love it! Love the story line! Love the characters! Charlotte is a counselor/parole officer. Wally is too old to deal with the Highway Titans MC bull anymore and is going to step down. But he wants his nephew to step up to the position and his nephew has some anger issues and past issues that have to be dealt with first. Out of desperation to help his nephew the president hires Charlotte after they save her on the side of the road. Ben is all bad ass alpha male and wants more then anything to become president and take his Uncles spot and make him proud but he has to deal with Charlotte first. The attraction is strong and he wants her. Once Charlotte gets in to the MC and starts getting info she would not be able to get in any other MC book I have read it gets a little weird for me. I have never read an MC book like this one, But that also puts it apart from the others.
This is the first book I have read by Cora Black. Tempted By the Devil is a MC romance. The first few chapter of the book, I thought was a little cheesy and things happened so fast. Charlotte a parole officer breaks down on the road and the Highway Titans MC ride by and stop to help her. She is hired on the spot to help Ben become a better person and leader by his uncle Wally. The next chapter Ben and Charlotte are going at it. For me, there was no build up to the setting of the story during the few chapters which made it hard for me to stay interested. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes were very steamy. I wanted to feel more of a connection with Ben and Charlotte. In the end, they both help each other. I would give it a 3 1/2 star for a MC romance book. I wanted my bad boy to be a little more bad. I received a copy of this as an arc for an honest review
This was definitely a different type of MC book and I really enjoyed it. When Charlotte, a parole officer, gets stranded on the side of the road and is approached by a motorcycle club the last thing she expects is a job offer. Ben has been running from his past and the last thing he wants is the responsibility that comes along with being president of Titan MC. That's where Charlotte comes in. Her job is to rehabilitate Ben and help him cope with the demons of his past. But what happens when he becomes more than just a job? Will Charlotte be able to give up her own life and become part of his?
So far I've really enjoyed all of Cora Black's books and I would highly recommend them.
I received this book free for an honest review. I loved this book. Lots of dirty talk and sex, great characters, good storyline. Charlotte is a parole officer and life coach and Ben is in line to be the president of his motorcycle club. Ben's uncle Wally hires Charlotte to straighten Ben out of his destructive life after the loss of his girlfriend. Instant chemistry and lots of emotion. Great read.
A really enjoyable read. Not too much MC violence and a beautiful love story. I loved the way Charlotte and Ben open up to each other and their interactions felt realistic with great dialogue. Beautifully written characters. I was voluntarily given this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. 4.5 stars
Charlotte Howard is a parole officer who provides extra private counselling as well, helping youngsters to find a path in life. After the leader of the Highway Titans MC helps her with her car she agrees to counsel his nephew who is due to takeover to the MC leadership. Ben is a true alpha biker and heavily involved in Club business but a tragedy in the past has left him unhappy and troublesome with his life and the club. There are others who want to take control and will do anything necessary to get it. From their first meeting Ben and Charlotte have an edge between them as well as chemistry This is a story filled with the emotions; anger, regret, jealousy, fear of commitment and love and so worth reading. I received this from the author and I voluntarily leave my honest unbiased review.
