American travel writer, David Hume, and his wife, Cathy are seasoned travelers to Italy. This journal takes us on their venture to Sicily, the largest Mediterranean island. Throughout their sojourn he discusses the history of Sicily and particular cities that they visit. Travel routes are discussed, as well as lodging and dining amenities. But the book was published in 1999, when the lira was the currency, and some of the recommendations are surely outdated. However there is still much to gain for the travel journal enthusiast or one who is making the trip to Sicily. The appendix offers customs and considerations for travel in the island. Overall, this is a very well-written and entertaining account.
