The Basics Illustration series explores key areas of illustration through a series of case studies juxtaposed with key creative 'basics'. Contemporary work is supported by concise descriptions, enabling the reader to fully understand the work being discussed.

Text and Image is the third book in the series, and features a wide range of work demonstrating diverse visual languages, contexts, ideas and techniques and skills. The handbook's aim is to introduce fundamental techniques, inspire, inform and act as a useful resource on international contemporary practice.

Text and Image explores the importance of an awareness of the design process and the creative interplay of text and image.

Contemporary illustrators from all over the world engaged in a diverse range of approaches to the discipline have contributed their artwork and commentaries on text and image and the working process. The handbook also features the work of recent graduates, present students and observations from educators past and present.

The Basics Illustration series also includes: Thinking Visually, Sequential Images and Global Contexts.

It is a concise reference book for some extra inspiration for illustration. I liked the exercises listed at the end of each chapter. It is nice that they also provided some relevant artists / extra resources for each exercise.

The very basics, presented in a not-so-eye-friendly way. The layout just hurts but the book is a quick read nevertheless.
